Underverden (2017)
A real action thriller set in the best sweet spot between reality and film.
I have watched this masterpiece years back and it influenced me a lot that i had deep respect for this work. I'm writing this review now in 2023. Because, i have been searching this film for a long time mainly because I forgot the name. Now that i happened to see the second part trailer, it guided me to finding the first part and iam so happy that i could find it finally!
I will say here directly. No more sugar coating (there is no need for that first of all, the film speaks for itself). Just watch it!!! Its definitely more than just worth it. Especially if you like real and raw fight and thrill situations in life more than the film stereotypes.
I'm now excited to watch the second part now. Not sure if they can make the second one by paying enough respect for the first work. Anyways i'm excited. But, first one guys, just try it. As i have said earlier, the emotion play and fights are directed in the best sweet spot set for imparting the best feel in every scenes of this film. Not those cliché fight sequences and conventional stereotypes anymore. This is real. This is OG. Do watch it in a stretch!
Chattambi (2022)
Raw style of direction and clearly not in good terms with the majority's liking
(NB: this review is mainly aimed at the regional viewers of the film)
Yes, exactly a different route taken in terms of its direction. Clearly not everyone's cup of tea. Those who love raw direction (like me) may mostly like this movie's take, but still there are certain visible degrees of failures within that too which contributes big time for the fact that this film is felt lagging and booring. Majority may find it a bit difficult to continue watching after the first half. I watched this film in theatre with five of my friends and all of them found it so negative.
Firstly, as I said before, it's not everyone's cup of tea at its core mostly because it's under the slow-paced style type. Secondly, I really appreciate this film team's effort to take this risky and bitter route. And if you have the sense to digest this film from a sort of classical standpoint which values it's style, (which may differ for each person) then its a decent film too. If you want to witness a direction in a different shade, you must watch this film but no guarantee this will satisfy you because its so much depended on each person's mind again.
And lastly, don't relay completely on the negativity poured over this film by the majority (Once again, because everyone is not the same). Please also note that this film does not fit in the commercial slot in the mainstream as its not tailor made for the majority's liking as per current mollywood market. The selection of this risky and unconventional directional route backs this stand and shows its shallow interest for a hit movie or a commercial success and instead bestows a feeling more inclined towards the style of expression of art which is something I personally value a lot.
Beast (2022)
A Solid 6.5+ Rated Movie for Sure
Don't keep note of the low average user ratings. First of all, this is a quality work. I was following this film before as I was very interested in its plot and was waiting for its release since then. Even though I had a very good expectation for this film, the poster and the trailer didn't really keep my impression high. But the film truly delivers.
Highlights of the film is surely it's originality/CGI. This is undoubtedly top of the line quality work you would see for both animation and graphics anywhere in the industry. The emotional journey within the standard direction throughout the film is of top quality.
Hard to find negatives in this. Although, the first 1v1 encounters between the beast and Nate was a bit illogical that the lion couldn't bite Nate's his feet even after multiple stomps at it. This and similar mistakes being so minute, this is a work deserving a spot in the top shelve.
Overall, this is a truly thrilling combination of events showcased in a manner of a top-notch quality base. I rate 6.99999/10. A musty must watch in its genre.
Nope (2022)
Distinct take in direction and design of an 'Alien Film'
This film really got me excited to stay pinned and curious. The standard of shots and the feel bestowed through the journey of the cinema is never disappointing as it stands in its quality equal to or even better than Jordan Peele's Get out (2017) which starred the same actor Daniel Kaluuya.
The main aspect of the film is again, as I mentioned in the title, the unique design of the alien gives a curious feel with uncertainty filled within and reveals the figure's full extend towards the end of the film which I personally found as the best way to reveal the extra terrestrial creature's design.
Forgot to mention, the sound design work and quality is exceptional. Watch in a minimum of 5.1 setup at your home.
Setting all the other alien movies at a distance, this ones gives a refreshing look for an alien film stereotype (if there is one)
Overall a fine film (8.8/10)
Prey (2022)
Closest it have reached so far in paying justice to the first title
As a lifelong fan of the original predator movie, I think this one gets you the feel and shivers similar to the first title film from the 80s, Hence each hard core predator fan can feel me. Believe me, it gets you closest to the Arnold's predator. Like the way the tension builds, the intimidating feel bestowed from the predator, the fight and eventually the ending is similar in its direction with the original movie. The film maintains the rawness decently without a lot of fancy stuffs and keeps it real which i personally like.
Now, coming to the female protagonist part, Its true when you hear 'a red Indian girl against the mighty predator'. Its not at all bad as its seen being addressed in the negative reviews, because its quite well executed/directed. So, don't underestimate this one with the critiques especially towards the female role.
Cons: Although he manages to outsmart the beast, the way Arnold treated the predator was still in a fear full and cautious way whereas Naru was not up to the mark for me. If some close combat scenes between Naru and the predator could have avoided, it would have become better. Maybe the ending parts weren't completely convincing for a lot including me at some points.
Pros: Breathtaking visuals/sceneries, well directed sequences, good sounds, overall, this is the closest it have reached so far towards the first title(70%). If i give the first title 9.7/10, this one would be a 7.9/10. Must watch.
