Till (2022)
A simple film, well directed, excellently acted, without much to offer cinematically
Till is a simple film, well directed, excellently acted, without much to offer cinematically but much to tell historically. A tragic case of a 14-year-old teenager tortured and murdered for a hate crime, without the need for overexposure or excessive blood and violence, the film manages to convey the pain, helplessness and anguish caused by an injustice of such proportion. Full of references to other injustices and murders that occurred around the same time against black leaders or simple citizens of color. Undoubtedly an interesting film that will keep you attentive to the plot without surprises or extravagances. A good way to attend to the history of the racial tragedy in the USA.
Rich Hill (2014)
Heartbreaking story of 3 young people and their families in a town where material reality crushes their dreams
Heartbreaking story of 3 young people and their families in a town where material reality crushes their dreams and expectations, plunges them into constant depression, frustration and melancholy.
Their existence seems to be doomed to eternal permanence in a place, a social class and a lifestyle that suffocates everything in its path.
The documentary goes through moments of pain and sweetness, each character shows the most affected side of her but also the most innocent moments of him. Wonderful and painful at the same time.
With intimate conversations, where the boys talk almost to themselves, tragedies are revealed, broken dreams, shreds of hope that seem to vanish with each new scene, although not completely. In the end, you just hope life is fairer after the end credits.
Lust Stories (2018)
A movie about love, power and desire
This production is not bad at all. How in any anthology you will find different styles but the shorts are excellently acted. Although it is not a perfect production it is quite good. Anurag Kashyap creates a complex, unpleasant and at the same time interesting character with a fascinating performance by Radhika Apteque that unfortunately does not carry the depth that was initially proposed. However, it is entertaining and makes interesting points about power relations. Zoya Akhtar creates a naturalistic, simple story, narrated through scenes, snippets of conversation, subtleties. A very well constructed and acted story, without fireworks or scandals, just details. Dibakar Banerjee builds tension from a telephone conversation, a relationship that falls apart, offended, betrayed. Another one that is built on rubble. The harsh awakening of a couple who must face pain, reproaches, blame. Karan Johar has a clear Western influence in her style and unfortunately, by pretending to be daring, she ends up not being. Unfortunately she copies the preachy and unsubtle Hollywood style. It is too simple a closing for a film with more experimental and reflective styles. In the same way, the acting direction is more cliché and not very striking. The contrast with the rest of the actions is unfavorable. In short, as a whole it is a great film, which may not please everyone. More than directly addressing issues of sexuality, it explores the power relations behind love relationships and how they affect love, desire, passion.
The Old Ways (2020)
One of the greatest horror movies of the year.
This Is a movie made with love. Love for the genre, love for the rites, and love for the audience.
The traditional movie about an exorcism but with the latino flavor and style, beautiful songs and great visuals.
