The Most Hated Man on the Internet (2022)
Essential viewing.
Hunter Moore is a representative of what a true scumbag is. And the fact that people followed this fool should check themselves because they are just mindless sheep and the scum off a toilet seat.
The Terminal List: Transience (2022)
The First Blood episode
This episode reminded me so much of the Rambo film First Blood - which is a good thing!
Probably the most exciting episode of the show
so far. Really enjoying this show. Chris Pratt is crushing this role.
The Boys (2019)
About damn time.
Finally a show examines the ridiculous values our modern society believes in. A biting satire that takes a real shot at our blind celebrity worship, what the majority of celebrities are really like in private and a decent swing on our addiction to social media accounts and our increasing 'look at me' fascination.
The Transporter (2002)
the original and the best.
Transporter 2 and 3 were okay action films but this one is the money. Inventive fights and action and a surprising amount of heart. Statham is terrific here.
Lucky You (2007)
Underrated
Lucky You is a great movie about addiction and its toll on friends and family. I enjoy watching this movie quite a bit and i think the poker scenes are excellent. Bana and Duvall are great and Drew Barrymore is always good. Nice cameo by Robert Downey Jr too.
Zack Snyder's Justice League (2021)
Superior to the theatrical cut.
Warner Bros. Missed an opportunity here. This film could have been theatrically released as Part 1 and Part 2 and kept everything in it that Snyder wanted. Fully fleshed out and realised and it turns out to be a lot less messy than what we saw at cinemas. Movies are made by directors and visionaries and storytellers and the studio SHOULD RESPECT that. Movies are not made by committees or focus groups. That's too many cooks spoiling the broth. Take Mad Max Fury Road for example - a rare example of a great director left the hell alone to fulfil a vision and what a great movie that was. Warner Bros. Needs to take a few more risks and back their artists.
The Libertine (2004)
Awesome Johnny.
The Earl of Rochester's opening address is pretty accurate. He's a vulgar distasteful man with a penchant for debauchery in a world filled with it. And he says you will not like him.
Yet for all his horrid flaws we do. We do still like him. Despite his body crumbling from disease his mind is sharp as a razor, still manning up to do his duty for his king as his literary giant.
Depp brings the performance of his career here. Be repulsed. But be prepared for genius.
The Count of Monte Cristo (2002)
Excellent
I really enjoy this version of the classic. All the actors play wonderfully well and the drama is compelling. Guy Pearce twirls his moustache as the vile Count Mondego in delicious fashion. He camps it up and stomps like a preening ponce which only makes you hate him more which is what a bad guy is supposed to do. Richard Harris is excellent in his small role and the ever enjoyable Luis Guzman steals many of the films comic moments. Its a breathtaking revenge story, full of swagger, romance and intrigue and its beautifully shot. A totally underrated gem.
The Devil Wears Prada (2006)
The perfect movie when youve had a terrible day at work.
When you've had an utter sh^t day at work and cannot stand your boss for whatever reason, this movie is the cure for that horrible 9-5 stint.
Why? Because you get to see someone else suffer and it's hilarious and comforting knowing that other people in the workforce have much more horrible employers than yours. Oh and the movie is awesome.
Carnivàle (2003)
Shame on HBO.
Thanks HBO for cancelling one of the greatest tv shows of all time just as it was really finding its stride. What a bum move. Carnivalé is straight up brilliant.
Ready Player One (2018)
So much cgi
Okay I know the movie is set in a virtual world so jam packed with computer animated visuals I couldn't help but think why didn't they just make the whole thing an animated feature? The story is pretty good but the eye candy is so overloaded it kind of defuses any kind of suspense. Neat pop culture references though and it's an entertaining popcorn feature none the less.
Big Trouble in Little China (1986)
Masterpiece
If you were to dig up a time capsule in 2054 and found a brown package with a note that says 'This is the greatest movie ever made' and you open it you will see a copy of Big Trouble in Little China. Endlessly quotable, beautifully shot. The movie is pure fun and the best east meets west kung fu movie of all time. Kurt is amazing. Kim Cattrall gorgeous and brilliant. James Hong, legendary. Pop it in and enjoy a total classic.
Double Indemnity (1944)
Masterpiece.
This might have been a movie about Fred McMurray and Barbara Stanwyck killing her husband for an insurance fraud but make no mistake, as soon as Edward G Robinson starts investigating the claim he completely steals the movie from the other leads. A masterpiece in dialogue, mood and style. Billy Wilder's finest moment.
Never Tear Us Apart: The Untold Story of INXS (2014)
Pretty good.
In many ways just as good as Bohemian Rhapsody and a lot more accurate to the history of INXS. Good performances, some cheese here and there but mostly a solid watch.
INXS: Live Baby Live (1991)
Classic concert. Godlike.
This concert is up there with Queen live at Wembley. INXS at the height of their fame and stage craft right here. The crowd is so amped! Oh what I would have given to attend. So I'll have to make do with cranking up the volume on my big ass tv instead and watching one of Australia's greatest bands just cut sick on stage. If you can't enjoy this concert you just don't like rock n roll.
Touch of Evil (1958)
His masterpiece.
I think this is a better film than Citizen Kane
but that's just my personal taste. Touch of Evil
is incredible and that opening shot is just amazing. Orsen did a lot of great films and I think this one is his very best.
Oz (1997)
We are most definitely not in Kansas anymore Toto
Classic prison series. Excellent acting, writing and execution. One of the best shows ever made. A great show to watch every few years to see how many top line stars got their break on this show.
The Town (2010)
Ben Affleck does Heat.
It's obvious Ben Affleck greatly admires Michael Mann's masterpiece Heat (it even gets a cameo in the film) with this slickly written crime story involving Boston friends who make their living as professional criminals who are masters of their craft. Things go swimmingly for the gang until they come under investigation by the FBI. Great supporting cast with Rebecca Hall, Jeremy Renner, Blake Lively and John Hamm. Highly entertaining action/drama with nice character moments. Affleck keeps getting better and better with each film.
The Bounty (1984)
Mel Gibson has never been more intense.
Watched this recently on MGM and loved it. Excellent direction from Roger Donaldson and a great cast including Daniel Day Lewis, Bernard Hill and Liam Neeson. The mutiny scene is one of the lost intense moments I've seen in a film. The film did not do well on its release in 1984 but it doesn't reflect the quality of the production here. An outstanding film in every respect.
RoboCop 3 (1993)
Underrated.
Nowhere near as bad as its reputation. Sure it's nowhere as good as the original but better than the second film which I always found was very mean spirited. This movie has a surprisingly lot of heart and feels closer to Verhoven's original more than the second film. Don't take it too seriously.
Out of Sight (1998)
Excellent.
Great movie that doesn't get enough love. Clooney and Lopez have amazing chemistry.
Also works as a spin off of Jackie Brown as it features Michael Keaton's character of Ray Nicolette.
Flashdance (1983)
The Rocky of the strip club world
Flashdance is the iconic underdog story of a working class welder with bigger dreams of attending an exclusive ballet school but has to pay her dues on stage in a downtown strip club first. Beals is sensational as Alex, the dance scenes are iconic, tasteful and beautifully directed. The soundtrack featuring many iconic 80s numbers like What a Feeling and Maniac power this every day story of chasing a dream.
Unmissable.
Green Room (2015)
Assault on Nazi 13
Green Room is fantastic. Drawing from influence from the John Carpenter classic Assault on Precinct 13, the setting switches from abandoned police station to remote nazi compound where a struggling band on the road are asked to play a gig for the skinheads. After a horrific incident which the band witness, they are stranded in the compound's dressing room or 'green room' and are pitted in a fight for survival against deadly neo nazi thugs outside. Patrick Stewart is absolutely brilliant in a surprisingly chillingly evil role. Tense, violent and exciting, this is a movie not to be missed. Excellent.
Ironclad (2011)
Underrated
Not 100% historically accurate but neither was Braveheart. Still, the movie offers some great castle siege action and Paul Giamatti brings some serious acting fire with his portrayal of the evil King John. I do love the style with which the Knights Templar fight. Some good supporting cast with Brian Cox, Charles Dance and Jason Flemying. Stoke the popcorn and enjoy some medieval mayhem. Go with it and enjoy.
The Cooler (2003)
Outstanding.
A brilliant film yet so underrated. William H Macy, Maria Bello and Alec Baldwin are all fantastic in this. The story of a man who's so unlucky in life that his negativity actually effects tables at casinos. Yes it's a bit of a fable but who cares. Its a wonderful story.
