Girls Trip (2017)
4/10
A big whole Meh.
20 November 2017
It's been a while since I've reviewed something in here, why not comeback with this? Ever since 2011's bridesmaids - which had me laughing all the way, actually - we had LOTS of producers milking the "older girls wild night out". we had bachelorette in 2012, bad moms in 2016 and 2017 brought us rough night and ended with Girls trip - which is only fair, seeing the public ate that nightmarish saga that was the hangover, a female similar idea had to come balance that out. As the years went by this movies went on being more and more mediocre, reaching his lowest point with this one. I honestly wanted to see this movie thinking "I love me some queen Latifah, she's always so funny and charismatic in her movies, also i love Jayda and I grew up with Regina playing Brenda on Scary Movie. Tiffany Hadish is a funny gal, this has so much potential." Boy, was I dead wrong. We are guided throughout the entire movie on a sea of clichés, group of best friends that got stranded with time, and get together to an EPIC night out - that's actually like 3 nights out, but i guess "girls weekend out" was not as catchy. We have hung gorgeous men, we have a overly sexual friend, a prude, a perfect friend and the extra one that always comes with the set and nobody notices - Tiffany, Jayda, Regina and Queen Latiffah respectively. now, don't get me wrong clichés can work, but not in such high dose. I didn't laugh at any time during the whole 2 hours of movie, and the attempts to rely on sexual jokes - like the grapefruit gag that was honestly CRINGY AS F*CK - and the basic comedy - the peeing scene that was not only unnecessary as it was overextended. I ended up watching this and feeling only one of the characters ended up going through something, while all the others where just there to fill in time. It was not awful, just plain boring to see. which is a SHAME because the whole cast is lovely and had so much potential...

A mildly interesting dramedy that tries to say lots, but doesn't say that much.
26 November 2014
I'm completely on the fence with this one.

I watched the trailer, and somehow I fell under the impression that it would be a fast paced comedy about a gay couple with juicy secrets unraveled by the - coincidentally gay - downstairs neighbor. Boy, was I wrong. I got this sucked into this artsy dramedy that tries to over analyze "gay relationships" instead.

Although it may seem appealing at first, Trying to distance itself from the most common LGBT movies which are usually raunchy comedies - there's not a single sex scene in the entire movie, kudos for that - or unending romantic dramas (which I love, don't get me wrong), it gets boring quite fast. The story develops into a unappealing conclusion, that has nothing to do with the direction it followed in the beginning, too bland and rushed.

The acting is not that bad, and the dialogues are quirky enough though they're not believable... to say the least. But the main problem with this piece, is the utter lack of chemistry between any of the characters. You have a couple, that clearly behaves like two random guys put together in the same room for the first time the week before, a romantic pairing that just has no spark at all, a pair of instant best friends with literally nothing in common, and a pair of old lovers that just don't seem to relate at all.

Maybe it's the dialogues fault, it just feels too... phony, too rehearsed It's like the writer just expect us to fill the blanks in a chemistry that just isn't there.

It's not a great movie. Don't expect a super clever dialogue - I mean, it sure has some pop cultural references in there - but you can watch it without regret. It's okay to watch it in a Sunday afternoon with some popcorn and no expectations whatsoever.

Lindsay (2014)
5/10
A "documentary" that feels like a reality show about an "ex" addict with a nearly dead career.
7 October 2014
Warning: Spoilers
When I first heard about this show, the concept was really vague, therefore I watched this with my mind as opened as possible, hoping to see some inside in what was going on with this troubled Hollywood starlet trying to rebuild her career, after her 6th rehab.

You know when you watch a train wreck on the news, and you know it's going to end badly, but you can't stop watching due to some gruesome curiosity? Well let's just imagine the train is Lindsay Lohan's career, and you've basically got this show figured out.

* you might have some spoilers ahead* Let's just clarify right here that I'm not a huge Lindsay Lohan Fan, neither am I a hater. I watched most of her movies, and I think she's an overall okay actress, who just got carried away . Then I saw the "docuseries" and got mixed feelings.

It seemed boring, and harmless in beginning, because there was nothing Worthy going on , but then Lindsay starts commenting on things and randomly crying, and I got hooked.

You get to see first hand what an emotional roller-coaster is, and how hard it will be for her to ever have a great career again, as we are presented to a moody and irresponsible starlet who's late to every single cameo she can get, and still blames every single person around her, as it's never her fault that she barely gets any work.

You see contradictions during every testimony and it makes you wonder . In one episode, she claims to be flat broke and desperate for work. two episodes later she spends 12 hundred dollars in hair extensions to go to a party just because she feels like it. She complains no one gives her a chance, a producer arranges a meeting with her and she bluntly bails it to stay in sleeping.

And it gets frightening, because you see everyone around her patting her in the back and condescending on her, instead of trying to help her succeed. You see how dangerous it is to bee vulnerable and how surrounded by vultures one is on this circles, and that's basically the only positive thing in this documentary, that's not actually a documentary.

* end of possible spoilers*

I realize OWN was trying to bring to the viewer this emotional journey accompanying a triumphant comeback for this promising young woman, with an artsy feeling, but what they delivered was a bunch of cameras following Lindsay shopping, smoking, eating, smoking, complaining, smoking and... being late to every single professional compromise ever made during filming.

Pit Stop (2013)

A beautiful movie about mismatches and mending broken hearts
12 February 2014
You follow th life of two broken hearted men, Gabe and Ernesto, who live in the same town, go to the same places and work 100 ft away without even knowing each other.

It may seem a little still at the beginning and by the trailer you might expect it to progress into a much more sexualized interaction between characters, but it turns out to be a nice romantic drama, which was a nice surprise.

It's not one of those "instant love" movies in which two people meet, fall madly in love and ride in a white horse to the horizon, it's a bit deeper than that, showing you about how you can "move on" how and when you least expect it.

I recommend it.

porn acting, without the actual porn.
16 December 2013
Warning: Spoilers
It took me 3 days to actually watch this whole movie. This should be a warning about how bad this is. I think they where all full with good intent, trying to make this a semi engaging thriller about a hit-man with a sordid past, but the God awful acting makes it a torture to watch.

Sean Paul Lockhart keeps pursuing his "serious acting" career, after the whole porn past, but somehow, his acting skills still as convincing as they where in the porn industry.

And that might be enough for you to break it in a 30 minutes scene, with lots of moaning and sexy faces... but if he wants to be taken seriously in the acting career, he might try to act a little more, and show a little less skin.

There's nothing wrong with some nudity here and there, but is kinda silly to assume that its normal to walk around half naked most of the time.

I wanted to resume the story, but there's actually not much to resume. They keep trying to make the plot more interesting, throwing in the most unconvincing drug addiction (I gotta say, that's one of the healthiest drug addicts I saw in a movie, for a long time) guns , swearing and the not so much occasional sex scene, but in the end is a big old cliché where the main character isn't what he seems to be and a sweet lovely guy who apparently nows how to give massages that cure PTSD and loves to have sex and snuggle even when being chased down by no apparent reason, with lots and lots of angry speeches and the dumbest ending EVER (I've put spoiler alert in the description, but I'm not sure this is actually a spoiler, or what it's possibly spoiling)

There are lots of great indie movies. There are lots of great gay oriented movies. There are lots of great gay oriented indie movies... but this is not one of those.
