It Happened One Night (1934)
One of those films to watch on a rainy day to brighten your spirits
Pros:
It's a sweet love story that you can watch with your grandmother. It's a quiet film (which may be my favorite part) with little to no score, does not have a relentless, usually bad score, like modern day films have. A lot is said or implied with a look.
Cons:
The male lead is a little domineering for modern day audiences. He spanks the female lead, tells her she's ditzy, tells her to shut up and essentially saves her but the female holds her own. The father of the female character slaps her.
The Naked Face (1984)
Not good but Carney is ok
Found this on one of those retro channels.
The good: It's nice to see Moore play something other than super smarmy, cartoon like Bond. Here he is a subdued psychoanalyst who discovers someone wants him dead. It had potential and an interesting cast. Carney gets the best lines, along with some clunkers, and a dumb ending for him.
The bad: The script is awful. Moore's character is way too trusting for a psychologist. For a cast like this, the acting should have been way better. Steiger is just embarrassing. He should have said no to this one. The ending is awful in its execution and line reading (looking at you Moore).
