Chernobyl (2019)
A masterpiece of television series
I always liked studying history, and science too. Before the release of the series, I had always studied about the Chernobyl nuclear accident but before the release of the series, I never had any idea of the dimension of the accident, and its consequences. Despite all the drama (as well as all biographical production), "Chernobyl" is certainly one of the best series ever made. Everything in the series has been masterfully done. From the performances by Harris, Skarsgård, Watson and Ritter, the script by Craig Mazin, the direction by Johan Renck to the soundtrack by Hildur Guðnadóttir. Everything, simply everything was very, very well done, very well realized.
The choice of Lithuania and Ukraine as locations for the series, as former Soviet countries, contributed a lot to the viewer's immersion. I loved Guðnadóttir's work in the soundtrack of "Joker" and more recently in "Tár", but her work on "Chernobyl" is in my opinion the best of his career so far. Her choice to compose the soundtrack using recordings made at the old Ignalina nuclear power plant is simply brilliant. Guðnadóttir is certainly one of the best composers of soundtracks today. And as for the cast, all the performances here are perfect, from the leading actors to the supporting ones. Jared Harris's performance as the hero Valery Legasov captivates the viewer from the first moment, with his commitment to the truth and his inability to lie to the world. Stellan Skarsgård, at first causes revolt in the viewer due to his ignorance, arrogance and authoritarianism. Paul Ritter is striking in his resemblance to Anatoly Dyatlov, both in appearance and in acting. And last but not least, Emily Watson as the fictional character Ulana Khomyuk, represents very well and gives a well deserved tribute to all the group of scientists who were involved with the disaster. This series, is impressively flawless. In my opinion the best biographical series ever made.
Hiroshima (2005)
One of the best (and saddest) documentaries i've ever watched
"Hiroshima" is in my opinion one of the best documentaries of all time. It is really sad movie to watch, but at the same time I think that is necessary, to remind us of the destruction power of nuclear or atomic bombs, and the reason to never use them again. The throwing of the bombs on the cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki was truly a crime against the humanity. It was a event that have changed world history forever. We will never forget all the destruction caused by the bombs in these cities. Now in 2022, At the middle of the russo-ukrainian war and the tension between North and South Korea, all that I want is that something like this would never happen again. All that I want, and I think that most of the people of the whole world want it too, is the world peace. No bombs, no destruction, no more death, no more killing ourselves, no more wars. Just peace.
Irréversible (2002)
Disturbing but a Masterpiece.
This film is completely a masterpiece! Gaspar Noe is a genius! The way he uses the non-linear narrative, camera movements and the soundtrack to send the message to the viewer that the sexual violence is irreversible in the life of a person is simply genius! It doesn't make difference if you want to take revenge with your own hands or not, what happened to the victim cannot be reversed. Time cannot be reversed. We can't turn back the time, unfortunately. Time often builts, but the time also can destruct everything.
