Kannur Squad (2023)
A Riveting Blend of Realism and Cinematic Brilliance
"Kannur Squad" is an exceptional cinematic experience that deserves to be seen on the big screen. The screenplay by Rony David Raj is excellent, and director Roby Varghese Raj's debut is nothing short of brilliant and amazing. The film's taut filmmaking, engaging narration, and well-paced storytelling keep you hooked throughout.
One of the standout aspects of the movie is the outstanding character arc for each character. Every member of the cast gets their moments to shine, with special mentions to Kishore Azees Nedumangadu and Shabareesh Varma, who tackled new roles with true justice. The tech guy and the North Indian constable also deliver remarkable performances.
Mammootty's portrayal of ASI rank Police Officer George Martin is truly impressive. His versatility in portraying different shades of police officers is a testament to his acting prowess. The film's focus on teamwork, bravery, and integrity in the face of adversity is well-executed, with the importance of these values highlighted throughout.
The movie also pays attention to the smallest details, such as the Tata Sumo, which becomes a part of the crime investigation and eventually gets damaged. The emotional attachment the team shows to the vehicle is portrayed realistically, leaving a lasting impact on the audience.
In addition to the fantastic performances, the film boasts excellent direction from start to finish, accompanied by a very good background score. The entire team deserves applause for their exceptional execution of this cinematic gem.
This is a must-watch film that combines realistic and cinematic entertainment flawlessly. With its engaging storytelling, memorable characters, and strong message about teamwork, it's a cinematic experience that should not be missed. Mammootty's fans will undoubtedly appreciate his role in this film, and it's a testament to his enduring appeal in the industry.
Bandra (2023)
Utter gangster flop
I don't understand why the writer is still making movies when people don't seem to want these kinds of stories. Dileep should take his time to find a better script and not risk his career. The good thing about this movie is the way it's made by Arun Gopy. The settings are good, but Dileep's costume and Lena's acting were just okay. Kalabavan Shajon was funny, even though he was supposed to be serious, and his name is funny too. The villains acted like jokes, inviting the hero to kill them when he already defeated many others. I tried to enjoy it as a fun action movie, but it didn't work for me emotionally. It felt like Dileep was reprising his role from "King of Kotha." If you liked that movie, you might like this one too. People who give it 10 stars should realize they're encouraging more flop movies in the Malayalam industry. Thankfully, Dileep didn't include any double-meaning jokes like in his other movies, which is a positive. I'd give 2 stars to the director and music director.
Twenty One Grams (2022)
Unpredictable climax and thrilling
This crime thriller was quite enjoyable for me. The story was smart and kept the suspense hidden, which made the ending really surprising. It's not something you can guess easily. There were a few parts in the movie where I found the flaws a bit off-putting, which may not convenience the audience. Despite that, I was happy with the film overall. It's definitely one I'd add to my list of thrillers to watch again. The movie grabbed my attention from the beginning and held it all the way to the end. The twist at the end was especially exciting and something new for a Malayalam movie. It left me hoping for a sequel because the ending suggested there's more story to tell.
Leo (2023)
Not a Lokesh complete movie
This film fails to live up to the high expectations it generated. The storytelling feels lackluster and lacks depth. When compared to Lokesh's previous works, this ranks as one of his weakest efforts. There isn't a single memorable scene that stands out in the movie. Lokesh spends an excessive amount of time trying to convince the audience that Vijay's character wants to lead a trouble-free family life, which comes at the expense of developing the villains. Sanjay Dutt and Arjun don't have enough screen time to showcase their acting prowess, unlike Lokesh's previous films where villain character development was more profound. The inclusion of unnecessary elements, such as the hyena scenes, feels like a missed opportunity to focus on fleshing out the villainous characters. The first half of the movie had its moments, although it was marred by the illogical hyena scene. The fight stunts in the initial part of the film were impressive and engaging. However, as we transitioned to the second half, Vijay's fights became typical of his usual films, and Lokesh's signature style was conspicuously absent, accompanied by a somewhat lackluster plot. Overall, it's a film worth watching once, and one can only hope that Lokesh will raise the bar with his upcoming projects.
Voice of Sathyanathan (2023)
Comedies worked out
Coming off a long hiatus from Dileep's recent works, 'Voice of Sathyanathan' presents itself as an average movie that manages to break free from the tired trope of body shaming, a breath of fresh air in Dileep's filmography.
What stands out most are the well-executed comedic elements that inject humor without resorting to offensive stereotypes. While the plot might not be a masterpiece, it's worth a watch purely for the comedic brilliance it offers.
One of the pleasant surprises in 'Voice of Sathyanathan' is its pacing. Unlike some films that can drag on, this one manages to keep things moving along, ensuring you're engaged throughout.
Joju George deserves a special mention for his stellar acting. His portrayal adds depth to the film, and the emotional aspects resonate strongly with the audience. His performance elevates the overall experience, making it one of the highlights of the movie.
Makarand Deshpande's has problems with dialogue delivery which I felt somewhat unclear, making it challenging for the me to fully grasp his talk.
King of Kotha (2023)
Unbearable
I tried warching this movie, but it proved to be an unbearable experience. Throughout the viewing, I found myself constantly checking the duration, eagerly waiting for it to end. The film's shortcomings became evident right from the first half, as it suffered from a lack of depth in its storyline.
Dulquer Salmaan's attempt to maintain a tough, rowdy demeanor throughout the movie, often with a cigarette in hand, ended up being more comical than convincing. The dialogue intended to deliver impactful punches turned out to be cringeworthy.
What disappointed me the most was the significant hype surrounding this film. Unfortunately, it failed to live up to expectations. It's safe to say that this movie is an utter failed attempt at delivering an engaging and compelling cinematic experience.
"Theerkan pattumengil theerkada" , not sure if he meant to say this to the viewers of this movie.
RDX: Robert Dony Xavier (2023)
New phase of malayalam movie industry
Malayalam industry has truly outdone itself with this remarkable movie that demands your attention. From start to finish, it's an exhilarating cinematic journey that combines action with a poignant emotional touch, creating an unforgettable experience.
The action sequences in this film are nothing short of spectacular. The choreography is masterful, keeping you on the edge of your seat throughout. The filmmakers spared no expense in ensuring every punch, kick, and stunt is executed flawlessly. The martial arts displayed on screen are not only visually stunning but also incredibly realistic, adding depth and authenticity to the action.
One of the standout features of this movie is its compelling storyline. It's a well-crafted narrative that weaves together various elements seamlessly. It keeps you engaged, wondering what will happen next, and it beautifully balances the emotional and action-packed moments. You'll find yourself invested in the characters and their journeys, which adds an extra layer of excitement to the action scenes.
Speaking of characters, all three main characters shine brightly. Each has a unique role and their own fighting sequences, making them equally important to the plot. It's refreshing to see such well-developed characters in an action movie, and the performances of the actors truly bring them to life. You'll root for them, empathize with their struggles, and cheer for their victories.
If you're an action movie enthusiast, this film is an absolute must-watch. It delivers on all fronts - action, story, choreography, direction and character development. The experience is so captivating that you'll be left hoping for a sequel. The potential for a second part is undoubtedly there, given the rich world-building and character depth.
Keshu Ee Veedinte Nadhan (2021)
Body Shaming with cringe comedies
This movie could have been released back in the 1990's to make it a hit. The comedies used in this movies are absolutely cringe worthy and not funny at all. The crew still stuck in the 20th century with outdated jokes and body shaming scenes. Avoid and do not support such movies ever.
Marakkar: Lion of the Arabian Sea (2021)
One time watchable
I decided to watch this movie today because of overblown hype. I advise everyone not to watch this movie with high expectations. The movie was basically below average, with no standout moments. There are much too many unnecessary sequences like romance scenes and songs in this to make it run longer. Some of the scenes are unrelated to one another. It was difficult to see it in some of the scenes since they were too dark. There are far too pointless castings with little screenplay. Mohanlal's dialogue delivery was terrible, and I felt like his muslim slang seemed to be the same as in the movie Kilichundan Mambazam. Pranav Mohanlal's performance was outstanding, much better than Mohanlal's. This movie is not a thriller like bahubali and do not compare such a movie with this. It's a historical emotional drama. Overall, this is a one-time watchable movie.
