Ojing-eo geim (2021)
A riveting thriller!
A movie with many themes, greed, poverty, the exploitation of human frailty and more. Fantastic acting by numerous South Korean stars. Loosely based on the horrors of the Holocaust.
The Woman in the Window (2021)
Awesome psychological drama!
Amy Adams, always a superlative actress, does an incredible job portraying human fears with great sensitivity. The cinematography is also beautifully handled.
The Woman in the House Across the Street from the Girl in the Window (2022)
Superb!
Not really a comedy despite some sarcasm based largely on the Woman in the Window (2021) with Amy Adams. Kristen Bell is a superb and elegant actress!
Die Büchse der Pandora (1929)
A movie of great beauty
Louise Brooks improved the image and independence of women from the Flapper Age to the 1980s. In fact, Jordan Baker, the tennis player in The Great Gatsby original novel, was likely based on her. A woman of extraordinary intelligence and beauty about 50 years ahead of her time!
Be Water (2020)
Factually very accurate but dull
I've read all of Bruce Lee's writing from the 1960s. Most are a third-rate re-hash of 10th Century Buddhism as detailed in the Tao Te Ching written by Lao Tzu around 970 AD. Bruce's Wing Chun combat expertise has always been unparalleled, yet the two hour documentary put me to sleep in 40 minutes.
Shi mian mai fu (2004)
Lovely Blend of Kung Fu and Romance
Best movie I've seen that blends Shaolin Kung Fu and romance. The cinematography is superlative, capturing the quiet aesthetics of deserts, bamboo forests, and snow. A true work of art!
Wo hu cang long (2000)
Finest Kung Fu Movie Ever Made
The first movie to carefully integrate Shaolin Kung Fu's many facets including; philosophy, meditation, and combat.
Kung Fu (2021)
Most realistic television portrayal of Kung Fu and Chinese family life
A superb series! Combines the same pressures faced by all upper middle-class people with life in a Chinese family. Olivia Liang's performance as a trained Shaolin is one of the most realistic on film, focusing on a combination of Wing Chun and Hung Gar styles. Shannon Dang's work is superb. Tzi Ma reminds me of the compassion in my own family. An iconic TV series fortunately having at least a second season; one hopes for many more!
