Lost in Space: The Derelict (1965)
really good sci-fi!
Even with a few little science problems, this is really good sci-fi! This one might be boring for some people but it is one of the best sci-fi episodes of the series. Here, we see Maureen Robinson rescue her husband John, but then they both get stuck outside the ship. Later, after some family moments, the family finds and explores a vast alien spaceship! The first aliens of the series are some of the best- nonverbal and nonhumanoid. It feels artistic and actually alien with a sense of mystery. The message of communication even with a sad result is very powerful. This episode also takes time to develop the characters like Penny and Will, and even shows a little bit of Judy/Don! They have so much chemistry! Not only are the characters and the story so good but so are the special effects which still look amazing! And the music is beautiful! This is a very good episode that shows the promise of the series, again showing the innocence of Will compared to the drama of the adults. The episode has a focus of making mistakes... John's mistake puts him in danger, while Dr. Smith is mistaken by thinking the ship is from Earth, and Will sneaks out and disobeys, but he does the right thing talking to the alien until Dr. Smith ruins it and it shows that actions have consequences. A message of understanding is also there when they try to uncover what the alien technology means and communicate with the aliens, it also shows the different opinions of the family. Really nice space exploration and family episode!
Lost in Space: The Reluctant Stowaway (1965)
Where it all began!
This is the first episode of Lost in Space! The Classic Series that is, and the way that the family gets lost and the characters of Dr. Smith and the Robot are completely different in this version! This episode mostly focuses on the character of Dr. Smith, who is shown to be much more evil here then he is in later episodes. This first episode starts off like a documentary and captures the feeling of a real space mission with space technology and the best spaceship ever, the Jupiter 2. But its not all science fiction- there is a adorable scene where the kids Penny and Will float around the ship in microgravity and play together. But the feeling is much darker than other episodes, and we see how Dr. Smith manipulates young Will. This episode is really good because it shows how adults and kids might see the world (or rather the universe) differently, going back and forth from a dark adult world into the eyes of the family. The parents also get good character development and Maureen actually avoids sexist stereotypes in this episode. I like how different characters have different opinions about going back to Earth or not. But mostly this episode is just pure action and drama with a realistic feeling science fiction setting.

DRAMATIC SPACE FAMILY ADVENTURE NOW IN COLOR!
As a bonus feature on the blu-ray for the first season of the Netflix Lost in Space series, there is a colorized version of this, the unaired pilot of the classic Lost in Space! It looks BEAUTIFUL in color! And it's amazing how good this show still looks since its over 55 years old. This unaired pilot was split up to make the first few episodes of the series, so all together its really action packed and feels like an old movie. But it's missing a lot of the character that the series had and can be a bit stressful to watch! The characters aren't developed much and it has a frantic feeling and is darker than the show but its still interesting to watch to see where it all began!
The ABC Saturday Superstar Movie: Lost in Space (1973)
Fun but without the family
This is pretty fun! The visuals and designs are very colorful and the aliens are cute. The story has a message and feels just like an episode of the Classic Lost in Space series. But the characters don't! Only Dr. Smith is here, played perfectly by Jonathan Harris. The Robot is now purple with a cute voice and the Jupiter 2 is now a yellow rocket! Instead of being about a family, this is about 2 boring brothers, Craig and Link Robinson. How they're related to the real Robinsons, I don't know. There is also a character named Dina Carmichael who is shown to be a scientist which is a welcome change from the classic series which had a lot of sexism. But these characters have no personality and I just pretended they were Don, Judy, and Will- but I still miss the family! These different characters just aren't as fun to get to know as the ones from other versions of Lost in Space- but on its own its pretty good old feeling sci-fi with a message.

Lost in Space as a Space Romance
Before the successful netflix reboot of the classic series, Lost in Space, there was this. Its a lot like the netflix series in some ways, but the characters arent as likable and the story is kind of bad. If your a fan of the Judy/Don romance it might be worth watching it, but I'm a Judy/Don shipper and I didn't like how that was the whole plot. The rest of the Robinson family is ruined! John Robinson is unlikable, Maureen gets not lots to do, and they add a boring teen son named David. Judy and Don are pretty good and so is Will, but for some reason they made Penny into a BABY! Like, a INFANT BABY! WHAT THE HECK? I don't see how Penny can be a baby in this when in other versions she is shown to be older? Did Penny go through a time warp? Or is she a age regressor and in the future that can be done with peoples bodies? The rest of the plot is just family drama and fighting aliens. It might have been a good show but it just isn't Lost in Space and it doesn't fit with the continuities in the other versions. So the romance is pretty good but the rest of it isn't.
