Oxygène (2021)
Solid work
It's not the best possible movie but...
Compared to recent american movies this french entry is an excellent choice.
The acting is solid, the plot has its twists and it did manage to keep me interested for the entire movie.
All in all I can recommend it...
Jupiter's Legacy (2021)
Here's hoping
It started out ok and I really hope it doesn't turn into yet another superhero corny story.
What got me excited were the two bits of dialogue where true moral issues and family issues were discussed - making it more of a real drama.
If an American show can succeed in going beyond platitudes and americanisms and turning life into a two-dimensional item then there may yet be hope for US shows and the American people...
Homunculus (2021)
It's always difficult to detach
When people get a story in one form and then get an adaptation in another form they tend to be disappointed.
I recommend treating the 2 adaptations as different stories. A good example of that were the 2 ying-yang master adaptations.
In any case I didn't read the manga so i can only judge the movie on its own.
I liked it. A new way to look at psychology, trauma and psychology treatment though i wouldn't recommend the therapy they use.
Thought provoking and original.
Ji hun (2021)
Excellent. Refreshing
I just wrote a short scathing review of Stowaway.
This in comparison is how sci-fi drama should be done.
A plot seemingly simple yet twisting and surprising to the very last second and I usually spot the twists miles ahead...
It even manages to blend woke elements without being ostentatious.
The cast is natural, the emotional drama is good even when a little over the top.
Mainland China and Taiwan are becoming heavy hitters in the film industry...way to go...
Not a Game (2020)
Bland and boring
Confused documentary gets boring pretty fast. Trying to maneuver between the pros and cons of gaming.
Unfortunately what is clearly obvious once again is it's mostly the old and the do-gooders who are con and the young and the business sector are pro.
It's a little like watching a political debate. It's not about facts but mostly about beliefs.
I believe gaming is the future. It's here for now and may or may not last but being against it is simply being a luddite.
We deserve better documentaries. If possible use facts and not beliefs. After all it's supposed to be documentary. Not drama and not a morality play...
