Insidious: The Red Door (2023)
Honest Review
So I gave this movie a 5/10 and I feel like this is very generous and fair.
I hate how this is not only the last Insidious but the worst out of them all. The most important characters are, for the most part, separated throughout the majority of the movie.
The whole college plot fell through, and Dalton's best friend was very irritating. It's like the director said "let's add this hipster token black chick to appease the minority and everyone will love it".
The script was elementary at best. I won't spoil anything but I cannot see how this was written by a professional writer.
Anyway, I love the Insidious franchise, but this one I don't think I can rewatch. I think the og cast deserved better.
The Nun II (2023)
Irene and Frenchie <3
I gave this an 8/10 for the sole purpose I love Farmiga and Bloquet's acting, and EVERY scene they're in together, be it flashbacks or otherwise, is amazing. I won't spoil the ending, but you can tell they care deeply for one another, as Frenchie teases they're bounded for eternity together. Would love to see more of them in the next movie!!
Now onto the new characters - I feel like Debra, in a sense, took place of the priest from the first Nun so she was alright, but Kate's character was a bit of a bore. Kate's kid, though, was a great addition to the plot.
As far as the overall story, it was okay. A few too many jump scares, but I did appreciate the scene in the alleyway with the magazines (already spoiled from the trailer). I feel like there was also several storylines that should have intersected earlier in the movie. I know some give the first movie a hard time, but I actually enjoyed that one a bit more? Either way, I definitely think this is a rewatchable movie!
The Diplomat (2023)
Horrible
For the life of me, I don't understand how this show has such a high rating. The writing is awful as it attempts to provide comedy.
In the very first episode, there's a part where the main lead makes her husband smell her armpits to see if she stinks, when she has deodorant sitting right there to put on! It was meant to be funny but came off ass really stupid.
In my opinion, if you've seen one episode, you've seen them all, as the plot feels repetitive.
I see some of the reviewers comparing this to Netflix's new show, The Night Agent, but do not be fooled; it's not even close.
Would not recommend.
Outer Banks (2020)
A Bone to Pick
This show is action packed from start to finish and each season gets better.
However, I like the romance aspect of the show (as I love the drama) and I feel like they are now moving towards fan service. John B/Kie were hinted to have a friends to lovers relationship while I believe Sarah and JJ were going to be together with the way Topper was so jealous of JJ offering her a drink. Plus, with the nicknames "Princess" and meeting with her on the dance floor, I feel like they were supposed to be together. We barely get scenes of the two of them now. Hoping the writers choose to pursue this.
Other than that, the show is pretty good.
A Christmas Story Christmas (2022)
Excellent.
I think everyone, (much like I did) will go into this movie with the stubborn mindset that it won't be "as good" as the first one, but in my honest opinion, it came pretty darn close! There were flashbacks and callbacks to the original movie which I definitely appreciated, and most of the cast surprisingly came back to reprise their roles. "The Old Man", while not being in the movie, definitely takes a big part in making the plot special. From the leg lamp to the bunny pajamas, you'll get every bit of nostalgia you're hoping for in what will soon be another classic, wholesome tale of Ralphie Parker.
A Christmas Kiss (2011)
Amazing!
First off, of course this made-for-television movie is cheesy, but hello, it's a Christmas movie, but I LOVE it anyway for what it is. The chemistry between the two main leads is undeniable, the antagonist does her job in making you absolutely hate her, and there are great supporting characters - in addition to a great story plot. I watch this movie every Christmas, even years after its release. It's such a feel good movie!
Really hoping they finally release this great movie for Digital on Amazon!! I've been waiting to purchase this on digital for a bit but to no avail. A Christmas Kiss 2 isn't nearly as good, but yet that one is on digital
..
Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin (2022)
Rubbish
Let me just say the director of Sabrina and Riverdale is also giving us this "masterpiece". Both Sabrina and Riverdale had potential and suddenly went down hill by season 2. Knowing this, I gave it a fair shot regardless of his bad reputation because I was a fan of PLL. This new show, however, started out with horrible writing and bad acting, so I can only imagine what a season 2 might bring (and I hope it doesn't get that far.)
First off, it's nothing like the original so don't get your hopes up in that regard. There's nothing that draws a person in to each character and it can get confusing since some of the characters look very similar. (Oh, and it was a little cliché to name the antagonist Karen lol)
Bottom line: if you're trying to outperform or at least make a show equally as amazing as the original, hire a great cast and better writers. But I guess it was expected with the director this show was given.
So if you like PLL, just rewatch the og series.
Sneakerella (2022)
Horrible
The only people giving this a 10/10 are people who want desperately to see a black main character, and that's the truth. Everything about this movie was cheesy and not in a good way. Sorry, you can't outdo the doer, and Disney once again butchered their new take on a classic, as they have no more creativity. They serve kids a sloppy script and expect them to be fine with it, but even children deserve more than a half-ass movie. As long as they include a diverse cast, they think people will love their new movies. WRONG. Stop worrying about race and maybe hire great actors, and give them a unique plot to deal with. I mean, Sneakerella, really??
iCarly: iDragged Him (2022)
Worse Episode Yet
Worst episode so far.
Carly's bff is dull and so is Freddie's daughter. I see why Sam played such an important role in the show, as I didn't appreciate her enough in the original iCarly.
The drag was horrible and the jokes were lame.
This show should do a few character cuts and Josh Peck should be a regular.
The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers: State of Play (2021)
GREAT...BUT...
The whole reason this Season 1 reboot succeeded was because of Emilio! The people watching this are watching for nostalgia....watching for EMILIO (Coach Gordon). No one will watch this without him no matter who takes his place. Disney should know this; only a brick wall would think this could thrive without him. Perfectly casted, well-scripted, and contagiously funny - all for Disney to cast someone else instead of working out a deal with Emilio. Pretty sad knowing this show will be canceled soon because of contract disagreements. Way to go Disney on ruining such a good show - one of few.
(This season was perfect, and only got better with each episode as the characters and the show's humor really shined. Coach Gordon was nothing short of amazing, a sarcastic middle aged man who fell off the horse only to redeem himself through being the kind hearted man he always was. Alex was also amazing and had chemistry with all of the teammates, including Gordon. Really couldn't get better than this amazing cast.... such a shame for Season 2)
The Fairly Oddparents: Fairly Odder (2022)
Honest Review
The cast members have great chemistry so I can't blame them for the awful writing of this show. On shows that I look back on from my childhood, I can still chuckle as the writing is actually funny but today's writing is horrible. I guess the writers feel like they can poorly do their job and kids will enjoy it, but that's not the case. It's not that hard to take notes from older, successful shows.
Riverdale: Chapter One Hundred: The Jughead Paradox (2021)
Ahhmazing.
Hands down one of the best episodes!! It was whacky, comical, and mysterious as per RiverVale, but it tied together the 5 episode special event and ended the 'Land of Confusion' most of the viewers were in. The flashbacks and past characters shown (Hal, Fred, Ethel, and even the OG Reggie) made this story a perfect 100th episode. While I do think bringing Betty into Jughead's plot was a little odd for the current situation that was unfolding (and pure fanservice - sorry 'bughead' fans, but it's true), it was all together wonderful. I was beyond surprised and excited to see the ending, because I thought we would have to wait for 6b! The episode was everything and more. Now back to RiverDale we go with hopefully a Betty and Archie wedding in the future and finding out the real TBK.
Riverdale: Chapter Ninety-Four: Next to Normal (2021)
Great!
Lili's voice was phenomenal and I'm not usually crazy about musicals. It was a little wild, but overall beautifully written! Veronica and Archie are on different paths. She doesn't want to stay in Riverdale, but he does. It's nice to finally see this show moving away from the high school aspect of things.
Riverdale: Chapter Ninety-Three: Dance of Death (2021)
Snooze Fest. Same Plot
Too fast-paced with the same plot over and over again and they wonder why their ratings are so low. Veronica being annoying so much I preferred Hiram. Archie almost dies and his best friend's Jughead and Betty were not notified. Cheryl thinking she's some sort of saint. Sadly, this will be my last episode because the writers refuse to improve.
Riverdale: Chapter Ninety-Two: Band of Brothers (2021)
Great!
First off, the actual filming and camera angles were AMAZING. The acting and the script were actually GREAT and that is saying something for Riverdale. The story for Archie was moving and a step forward towards his healing process. Jughead and Betty coming to terms with their former relationship was also great. It's definitely an end of an era and I'm excited to see where the story goes!
Riverdale: Chapter Eighty-Nine: Reservoir Dogs (2021)
It was Good
The writing was great, but of course, 1 point off because I hate musical numbers. 🙄 (even if I liked the song)
I especially loved the window in the dark scene, and seeing how Archie is coping with his time (darkness) at war.
As for Kevin....he should be sitting in on those therapy sessions, as well.
Riverdale: Chapter Eighty-Eight: Citizen Lodge (2021)
Wonderfully Written
Wonderfully written which begs the question : WHY aren't all the other episodes like this?? Why are all the other episodes so cringey? The cinematography was excellent as well as the music. This Hiram-based episode did not disappoint as I thought it might. Cannot wait to see new dynamics on the show and (hopefully) a budding Veronica/Reggie and a Betty/Archie romance.
The Crew: You Seem Like a Perfectly Serviceable Woman (2021)
Kevin James
Why is that today's comedies have great actors but the writing is horrible? Kevin James is naturally funny and this show has potential with less forced funny scenes and maybe more moments out of the office. The best part was Kevin falling and running away from the porcupines. Get writers like the ones from King of Queens, please.
Riverdale: Chapter Eighty-Four: Lock & Key (2021)
Inconsistency is "Key"
Archie was strangely "off" this episode. Betty and Archie's relationship after just a couple of episodes was played off as being nothing more than hormones despite their deep connection, Kevin and Cheryl both shared the title of "nuts"; Kevin's relationship was described as "open" which should have been discussed at the beginning of the time jump. Tabitha went from a strong woman to helping a drunk to bed, and not one hint of an emotional, flirty connection. Veronica and Archie forget their past despite Veronica being married and Archie having sex with Betty .5 seconds ago. The key party was 30 seconds and was predictable, (hyped for no reason). It's too fast to jump back to Betty and Jughead + Archie and Veronica, but here we go again with no new friendships or development. A scattered, inconsistent episode.
