The Sandman (2022)
Well, I loved it.
I grew up reading and loving these comics. So naturally I was both excited and worried to hear about a netflix adaptation, since these things rarely seem to go well.
OMg I was surprised beyond belief! It was amazingly done and so fantastic to see my favorite characters and stories fall into place, with only -very- minor changes.
I can't wait for the new season!
A Cry from Within (2014)
interesting story
I really enjoyed this movie and the story. The slow buildup and development of each character was nice, as i actually got invested and cared about each of them by the end.
My biggest complaint is with the ending - the last 20 seconds completely ruin it for what seems like typical horror sequel bait. It's not often horror movies have a happy ending (and that it works) so why spoil it ?
Spaceballs (1987)
Classic favorite
I saw this in the theater with my parents long long ago so it holds a big nostalgic place in my heart.
Re-watching this as an adult I can see how newer audiences may not love it, from the juvenial-type humor to the dated pop and movie references.
But for me, it was and always will be a comedy legend from my childhood; one of those movies I can re-watch over and over and over.
In fact, I just did.
2 Jennifer (2016)
it's..... not terrible.
This movie is not great, but deserves more than a star. And as i slowly make my way through Tubi's seemingly endless horror flicks, this was far from the worst. The fact that it's an iphone movie doesn't help matters, (especially when they constantly reference it throughout).
The first half of the film is a slow SLOW buildup of character development for the main lead, Spencer. Unfortunately, it's unnecessary since almost right off the bat you can tell Spencer is a liar and a lunatic. The real fun starts around the party scene, and I really enjoyed the fact that they brought characters from the first film
into this one.
Here's where they got me- The gore and blood effects at the end were very well done, (i clean crime scenes and this was probably the most realistic movie blood i've seen in a while, so hats off to the fx crew.)
All in all- it's a good movie to have on in the background while you do something else- especially if you saw the first ToJennifer.
(also- i just saw there's a third movie?? Ugh)
Book of Shadows: Blair Witch 2 (2000)
woah.
I saw the first Blair Witch years ago in the theater; had no interest in the sequels, never saw them. The other day Hulu popped up with BW2 and i played what i thought would be a stupid movie I could listen to in the background while i got some work done. ....I was wrong.
... I don't know if it's the fact that i'm watching this for the first time or maybe i had such low expectations... maybe both?
It was fantastic!! The plot was well-woven, the characters developed throughout, and quite a surprise as it rolled along.
Only 8 stars because the middle dragged along in some areas and wades into stereotypical horror territory. Part of me wants to give credit to those scenes tho, because it threw me off from guessing where the movie was headed.
I won't give out spoilers but if you thought the original Blair Witch was a bore- give this one a try.
It's... pretty great.
Lights Out (2016)
Better Than Most
I really liked this movie. Great characters and a fun plot. I have to give points to this movie for actually developing the characters and giving them a little bit more depth than the average horror flick. It's nice to root for the main characters for once. Minus a star for the jump-scare-apaloozafest but it's definitely worth it.
