Censor (2021)
7/10
If you have a keen eye for cinematography and enjoy slow burn horrors then ignore the low reviews and give this one a shot
25 October 2021
I'll admit I went into this film with no expectations, yet found myself captivated by Niamh Algar's performance and the general concept of the film. If you're not a fan of ambiguity in films or artistic and expressive camerawork then you'll probably be joining the people who have been giving this 3/10 reviews. That said, if you stick with the slow burn you'll appreciate the looming feeling of dread and discomfort as the film progresses, even if you can already predict the outcome. The important part is how these revelations are presented, which I think deserves a lot more credit than the film has received so far. Finally, it would be misleading if I told you that this is some kind of modern masterpiece as it isn't without its drawbacks. There are some cliche moments with certain character interactions and the elements of mystery that had helped keep my interest just seemingly fizzle out just before the film's climax. Overall, though, it's a decent concept which has been executed well. As the title to this review says, give Censor a shot if you enjoy horror films which focus more on the presentation and talent rather than scares and gore.

Blood Red Sky (2021)
7/10
Even with some cliches and somewhat predictable events, Blood Red Manages to be a unique, captivating experience
25 July 2021
Firstly, I want to say that some of the criticisms on here are justified, although maybe a bit too harsh. In my opinion, Blood Red Sky gets a lot right. It has an interesting concept, just the right amount of gore/violence (I wouldn't call this a horror so there is nothing too extreme in terms of gore) and a fast paced plot which kept me fully immersed until the end. I went in completely blind and was very surprised. I actually think that this is one of the better Netflix films.

I thought about giving it an 8/10 but honestly I normally rate masterpieces 8 and above. This is not a masterpiece in my opinion, but it really is a cool film worth watching.

Nomadland (2020)
6/10
A travelling painting which doesn't know it's final destination
20 May 2021
Amazing acting, camerawork and music but Nomadland suffers by not having any real revelations or story development. To be blunt, the movie could have ended at any point and it would have felt just as disappointing as the final scenes were. I can't say I disliked this movie since I was invested in the main character and the pace was comfortable enough to keep from being boring, but the anticipation of some kind of punch or conclusion was ultimately not fulfilled.

Kidding (2018–2020)
10/10
Not sure where to begin...

This series is the perfect mix of dark comedy and drama complimented by creative direction and artistic visuals. All of the characters have been written carefully, each with their own arcs and are consistent throughout both seasons. I would say fans of Eternal Sunshine/Her would definitely enjoy this. Jim Carey is the perfect casting for Jeff and this show really reminded me of just how incredible he is. That does not take away from anyone else in the cast, however, I felt they all gave top performances. I wish I had seen this show sooner!

Triangle (2009)
6/10
Ignore the high praising reviews. This is entertaining but riddled with plot holes
6 February 2021
You don't even need to be intelligent at all to be able to spot all of the plot holes in this. In fact it's much more enjoyable if you just try not to think about it. There is so much in this movie which is so non-sensical it actually became laughable. Those are the main complaints. The acting is decent and there are some good action sequences. This would have worked much better if they actually knew how to write a coherent story, but instead it comes off as a dumb person's attempt to write something intelligent.

Stick to stuff like Shutter Island, Memento, Inception, Tenet, Oldboy etc. if you want mystery thrillers which actually make sense.
