Resident Alien (2021)
Funniest show in 30 years
The closing scene in the final episode of season one perfectly captures the essence of this show's humor.
I very seldom find American humor funny, but this show is something else entirely. It's the funniest show I've seen during the last 30 years, ever since Blackadder went off the air.
Not only is the humor international, but a majority of lines are also well written and delivered. The show has pretty good dramatic material and performance, paced and punctuated excellently with dark humored wit, to highlight human and social absurdities.
It doesn't stop there, the cast is excellent to. A few episodes in I realized I'd started to enjoy, care about and be interested in every single one of them. Ok, save two annoying kids, but they don't get so much screen time that they ruin any single episode.
My hat's off to every single one involved in making this show happen.
My only fear is that even though this could be a world wide hit, it may not go so well in the US, and be yanked for that reason alone.
Personally I'll be looking for a bluray collection now that the season is done. Classics like this are hard to come by, and in this streaming world I want to ensure I'll be able to enjoy it in years to come, even if it's pulled from streaming for whatever reason.
Resident Alien: Heroes of Patience (2021)
Perfect closing scene of a stellar first season
Some really great scenes in this episode. The otherwise bland mayor family finds something they enjoy doing together, Darcey as ever is pulling some crazy stunt, which has become her trademark, and the closing scene as well as line was just perfect.
I really do hope another season gets greenlit, bacause this show has been the most positive comedic surprise in decades.
Well done to every single one involved for a fantastic first season.
Now just continue feeding us more of the same without changing up this winning recipe :)
Death to 2020 (2020)
Lazy and flat jokes squarely for an american audience
This production has some awesome actors and actresses in it.
With such a cast I expected at least some entertainment, but unfortunately there is none to be had if you are from anywhere other than the north american continent.
The jokes are the silly in-your-face slapstick sort typical of US comedy. The sort that only dim-witted Europeans would even chuckle at.There is no intelligence behind them. The subject matter treated is entirely US centric, so even the themes covered will hardly resonate with any other audience.
Granted, humor is different in the US, where one has to be very direct, often to the point of literally stating "I'm kidding" for people to understand a verbal joke was made. To that sort of audience this may be of slight entertainment. To anyone else; save yourself from an hour of tedium and go watch something by Dylan Moran instead.
