Selena: The Series (2020)
I LOVE the series and am excited for the next part!
Honestly, I thought all the actors did very well and the music was awesome including all the song choices outside of Selena's. I think they did a good job tying so much in and showing the progression with authenticity.
It's incredible to see Selena on Netflix and to see so many Latinos in this project thriving! No one will ever be Selena, nor is there ever actors that are complete copy paste versions of the real deal, I think that part is being focused on too much. There's a lot to praise!
The shown progression of Selena and her siblings musical development is really good. I thought it was very meaningful for them to highlight the moments of Abraham teaching them the art and further appreciation of music itself since that's where their improvements grew from. Especially A.B. once he transitions into writer/producer. In that, it was excellent to see added the making of the music, the ideas, art and everything behind these amazing songs.
I enjoyed seeing Selena's wardrobe recreated and many concert moments and career milestones too. So many of the earlier stuff that was never expanded on in the movie. I love the first TMA scene so much! I also like the piece that glimpses into Selena's inspo for dance moves, although they could've expanded more on it.
The extended storylines are also great. They include more about each family members' individual life and more about the band mates and their roles. It's nice to see the dynamics of Selena and her relationships with each one in her family but more so Suzette. I especially loved that there were series of moments used to build the actual love between Selena and Chris. The details in that were special even though I'm sure there's so much more beyond.
I look forward to what's next and I hope that they touch on Selena's deep love for her fans. Hoping they Include concert moments where she's inviting kids on stage and reaching out to touch hands in the crowd. That part about Selena was so special, she made fans feel loved.
