You Cannot Kill David Arquette (2020)
Very entertaining journey for wrestling fans and non-fans alike
Arquette is a likeable, interesting character. He comes across as very eccentric and sensitive and at times you feel you're watching a mid-life crisis play out. The story is also full of fun and humour. Plenty of wrestling legends make appearances and although some sequences feel contrived you can forgive them, as when the lines between performance and reality are blurred often the most memorable moments in wrestling occur-see the infamous Montreal screwjob for example.
Arquette creates quite a few memorable moments of his own, from the comical and heartfelt to the outright disturbing.
I recommend sticking around for the outtakes during the end credits.
A Friend to Die For (1994)
Flat and one-sided
A movie of cardboard cut outs. The main character was portrayed very sympathetically, her victim the opposite. Could have been an interesting character study, showing the layers of their personalities. The cheerleader most likely had her nice side, maybe was a bit insecure herself. The killer was probably not as nice as shown.
There was more to be learned from this event. Sadly the filmmakers took a side, obvious from their depiction of how the knife came to be in the car, something the investigators found doubtful as would most people.
How many of you take an 18inch knife in the car to slice vegetables? And who the hell slices vegetables in the car?
You Don't Nomi (2019)
If you love "social justice" and identity politics this is for you
But If you actually like Showgirls, appreciate the camp satire and spectacle and wanted to find out anything interesting about how it was made then it's probably not.
Cuentos de la Bruja (2019)
Fun and spooky Halloween-themed horror
Three grisly tales which perfectly represent the tone of their comic book source material. "Cycle of Horror" was my fave, very toe-curling stuff
If you enjoy Creepshow, Tales from the Crypt then this is well worth adding to your Halloween playlist!
Witch Tales (2020)
Can't beat a Halloween-themed horror
Three fun and grisly tales which perfectly represent the tone of their comic book source material. "Cycle of Horror" was my fave, very toe-curling stuff.
If you enjoy Creepshow, Tales from the Crypt then this is well worth adding to your Halloween playlist!
Halloween III: Season of the Witch (1982)
Deserves a higher rating
The most underrated in the series. It still gets a bad wrap purely because it departed from the others so drastically, but It's so much more entertaining than any of the cut and paste sequels that came after. Best soundtrack of the bunch too
First Man on Mars (2016)
Schlocky, Campy fun. Like classic Troma
Mike T Lyddon's homage to grindhouse & video nasties is a deliciously gory slice of comedy horror that goes well with a couple of beers.
Fellow fans of The Toxic Avenger and Hobo with a Shotgun will find plenty of fun in this mutated astronaut's rampage through the Louisiana swamp.
