Dexter: The Getaway (2009)
One of the best season finales in the history of modern television
First of all, this is one of my favorite episodes, and one of the bravest season finales in modern television. An all-consuming thriller that contains the full range of emotions through 51 unforgettable minutes.
John Glithow tops a solid season with a fantastic performance as the gruesome and sinister Arthur Mitchell. The end of the episode is one of the most insane twists I have experienced as a viewer, something I want to thank the creators of the series for having the guts to complete. Bravo!
The Walking Dead: Home Sweet Home (2021)
The widow is alive, guns a-blazing!
A brilliant, emotional episode starring Maggie Rhee (Lauren Cohan) gives us a solid start to the long-awaited 10C, which will act as a bridge between seasons 10 and 11. Covid-19 restrictions taken into account, this was a pleasant surprise.
We finally get a reunion with Maggie who in recent years has spent time in Georgie's community with her son Hershel J.R. I was very pleased with how the writers gave us insight into the time she was away, but at the same time brought out her reactions to the aftermath of The Whisperers' ravages and destruction. New characters were introduced, and these seem interesting so far. There's also a specific action sequence towards the end of the episode which was very well-executed.
A big plus in this episode is the good dialogue between the characters. Angela Kang and her team have performed very well in this field throughout the season, and this episode is no exception. I'm also very interested in finding out more about who this new group that was introduced is, which I think will be explored further in the coming episodes. There is a lot to look forward to in the coming weeks!
The Leftovers: Crazy Whitefella Thinking (2017)
Masterpiece
For several years now, I have on many occasions thought back on this unique and fabulous episode starring Scott Glenn.
I struggle to find the right words to describe how much I appreciate this story, but I want to thank the writers for taking me on a philosophical journey that challenges me to reflect. Which makes me think about what matters in this life, the existential questions.
This is an art that very few other shows manage to achieve, but which The Leftovers repeatedly manage to master. Kevin Garvey Sr. has always been one of my favorite characters, a complex figure with a lot of will to solve the unexplained events. If you are a fan of strong, character-driven stories with good dialogue, cinematography and quality writing, this is the episode for you.
The 100: Eden (2018)
The incredible journey of Clarke
The 100 hits all the right notes in this fantastic season premiere. Without a doubt, my favorite episode of The 100 so far.
I tend to really enjoy TV episodes that go in depth on individual characters. This one was no exception, Eliza Taylor thrives in the role of the leading character Clarke Griffin. Questions are answered as new ones emerge. I look forward to the next journey ahead.
