The Goat Life (2024)
Movie's effect lingers on for much longer
The movie is a harsh depiction of reality of many gullible migrant workers in Saudi Arabia. The 3 main characters have held the movie on their shoulders in a manner one cannot visualise.
The movie has been shot in excellent locations, the settings both beautiful and cruel. It is indeed a miracle that a few managed to escape - in a landscape that is treacherous.
The credit of the movie rests on the Director, Makeup team and Cameraman. Though it's a movie, I couldn't see many scenes as some were heart-wrenching. BGM score by AR Rahman is haunting.
The Director could have curbed the urge to insert the romantic song between Prithiviraj and Amala Paul. He probably thought it would give some relief to the audience from the incessant. But it would have been much better. The short reminiscences of the past were adequate - without the song.
The movie is best watched in the cinema hall.
Salaar: Cease Fire - Part 1 (2023)
Average movie
I went to see the movie with lot of expectations. I must say I found it rather disappointing. The build up is too prolonged - well beyond interval. We could get the gist at the end of the movie. One could argue that screenplay showcases a 5 line story. But this screenplay is repetitive that gets boring beyond a point. And there is so much violence. Animal can take a back seat on this. Animal had Ranbir acting very well. Here, Prabhas has no scope. Beyond carrying the same look throughout the movie, he has no chance to show any acting.
The hero of the movie is VFX and cinematography, in that order - shot largely in dark shades - much like dark, period movies or cowboy movies of the past.
The director seems to be inspired a lot by SLB, especially Padmavat.
One can safely give this movie a skip, unless one is hardcore Prabhas fan.
Uunchai (2022)
Certainly worth a watch!
Though the premise of 4 old friends setting out on Everest Base Camp at a very old age appears flimsy, the film portrays emotions and feelings most of us have. I have seen a few reviews as 'preachy' - but I sincerely feel it is what you and I would say if such situations arise. I really liked that the film is devoid of much of Bollywood formula. The only thing that can distance the film from majority is that it is set in a very affluent lifestyle. Could have been a more middle-class or 'upper middle-class' setting.
Boman Irani, Anupam Kher, Neena Gupta, Amitabh Bachchan, Sarika, Danny Denzongpa breeze through their roles. Parineeti cast as your guide appears a bit contrived. A normal Sherpa would have been apt with Parineeti as a trekker.
Overall a good watch!
Bandish Bandits (2020)
The best series of 2021
Bandish Bandits has nailed it with music, casting, location and story, in that order. I'm so thrilled that it brought out classical music to the fore! Waiting for Season 2.
