Evilive (2023)
K-drama with K-movie quality
Usually I prefer watching gangster and action k-movies over kdrama of that genre because the drama, no matter how good, always moves on the idealistic side. BUT NOT THIS ONE
It starts off kinda normal and expected, but as you go you realize there's more to it.
Rather than character development, you get character unboxing, it's subtle at first but enough to make you keep a judgmental eyebrow raised throughout the episodes.
The ending was superb, unexpected only because it's a kdrama, but once you see you it, you realize you had been expecting it all along and it makes perfect sense.
Shin Hakyeon served, as expected. His acting is beyond perfect. All three male leads matched each other very well, it felt balanced.
My favorite part is the things I thought were cliche while watching, until the ending hit me and turns out they weren't just for cliche but actually part of the character.
All in all, I went in with high expectations, and though it was different, it didn't disappoint.
Bulhandang (2017)
Gangster drama masterpiece
This is one of my absolute favorite K-action movies!
I've watched this movie the first time when it came out and rewatched it again now, even with all movies I've come across between and, in my opinion, it's the last decent K-action/thriller movie made so far.
First of all, the actors. Wow! Honestly, Siwan surprised me with how he absolutely nailed this role, Kyung gu is exactly how you'd want the actor for this role to be, and the chemistry between them is top notch.
The movie is not slow pased at all, it's more of a calculated, fermented thing, where every scene and every line has to have a perfect impact. Even better that is switches between past and present to give more depth to characters relationship. This movie is a masterpiece.
Mideunaiteu (2021)
I only put up with it for the cast
Not gonna lie, I only watched it because psychopath Hajoon, and at many points in the movie I was wondering, is it worth it?
The cast did a decent job, Kijoo's performance was amazing, but she could've done so much better. And Hajoon, well, he did his best with what he was given. The overall plot is sloppy, the script has some serious cringe, and the pace is boring at many points.
I liked the direction in how the tried to engage the viewer with Kijoo's pov by muting the sounds around her in intense moments, but again, could've been better.
I had higher expectations for it but for thriller, it wasn't very thrilling.
Train (2020)
Unexpectedly binge worthy
I'm not really a sci-fi fan, so I wasn't expecting much when I started this drama, but I was hooked from the start.
The drama moves smoothly, avoiding many plot holes that most of these dramas fall in, you'd expect you found one and it turns out to be part of the plan or an unexpected plot twist.
I've known Siyoon first from Psychopaths' Diary, so it took me the first 4 episodes to not laugh everytime he has a serious expression, but he's a good actor and did well in this role.
The only part I didn't like much was how rushed the ending felt. They left unexplained bits that don't affect the overall plot, but still made the last 20 minutes feel like the director was saying "You get the idea now, you'll figure it out". Which isn't so bad, it might have dragged a bit otherwise, so all in all, it's one of the best shows with that idea.
Son: The Guest (2018)
Sadly overrated
I don't get how people are rating this show as a horror masterpiece, I'm a person who can't handle even the mildest amount of decent horror, yet this show had no effect on me, so while I do appreciate being able to sleep at night, I still wish it wasn't that flat. Rather than horror, it's more of an attempt at a scensored gore.
Most of the show was predictable yet the characters keep ridiculously missing the obvious because we need to fill 16 episodes.
It picked up nicely in the last 3 episodes, but before that it was pretty boring.
Generally, it had such potential with the plot and the casting, but the directors completely missed it.
Color Rush (2020)
Huge disappointment
It had an interesting idea, I'll give that and nothing else.
Zero chemistry between the leads, one of them was just reading a script not acting, and it was a very poor script, sudden transitions that makes you wonder if you had accidentally skipped a minute or so, unexplained plot holes, and s1 ending was wrapped up in haste.
At some point I felt bad for Yoo Jun because he was actually trying to put some effort there but nothing in the drama was helping.
I had been excited for this drama but it's really bad, even Sanghyuk, whom I really like, being in s2 isn't enough for me to watch any more of it.
