Pressure Cooker (2023)
Great cooking, lackluster editing
When I watch a competition cooking show, I want less of the cooking and more of the critics feedback. The team competitions made it difficult to remember who cooked what.
And though the contestant-judges discussed the food to camera there was very little feedback to the contestants and even less discussion after with each other. The chefs defended themselves to camera which rang hollow.
The critics episode had the best feedback although the chefs themselves got no critique.
The cooking was entertaining and I always enjoy seeing the techniques used. I would watch another season but would like to hear more evaluation of the dishes.
Iron Chef: Quest for an Iron Legend (2022)
Love.it with one caveat
The whole.chairman, my uncle nonsense is cloying and annoying. I like Mark Dacascos just fine but I have never thought the whole chairman nonsense was necessary. And it makes what is haute cuisine into pandering for viewers.
Another minor annoyance. One episode had two chefs vs Ming Tsai. OK, since Tsai is a culinary legend. But the challengers, Mai Lin and Greg Gordet were both Top Chef contestants. And their sous chef was Jeremy Ford, a Top Chef WINNER! He should have been a competitor, or at least gotten an accolade when his name was mentioned.
On the other hand, I love the level of cooking shown on each episode. The new version is similar to the original, with winning competitors earning a chance to become Iron Chef legends.
The show only narrowly eclipsed by Top Chef, The Great British Menu, and The Final Table (a fantastic 2018 show that should have been renewed.)
The Undoing (2020)
Not sure yet
SPOILER
If my husband went out of town without his phone and I didn't know the code (sure) I would call my credit card company to see what hotel it was used at and in what city. Duh.
