Rick and Morty: That's Amorte (2023)
Classic Rick and Morty
I've been skeptical of season 7, mainly because I wasn't blown away by the first three episodes. I thought each episode was solid, but the only one that I really liked was "The Jerrick Trap." Otherwise, it's been an average showing. I know many fans are going to write off the entire season for the recasting in voice actors alone, but that has never been an issue with me. Something just felt off about the writing, but I'm glad to say this is one of my favorite episodes of the series. Without giving away any spoilers, it's a classic "Morty screwed up" plot that escalates into galactic chaos. But the twist in this episode is down right shocking in the funniest way possible. I think it's the most I've laughed at an episode in seasons! Definitely going down as a classic in my books!
Rick and Morty: Solaricks (2022)
A Return to Form!
Rick and Morty is one of my favorite shows ever. The first three seasons remain some of my favorite episodes of all time. But as the show continued, things felt different. After two uneven seasons that were admittedly fun, but suffered from a lack of innovation and commitment, season 6 of Rick and Morty opens up with a creative, exciting, and eventful story. It finally feels like the creators are willing to commit to change, which is great as every long running show needs to change and evolve to stay interesting.
To briefly touch upon spoilers, this episode picks up right where season 5's jaw dropping finale left off. I appreciate the show's commitment to the story, and the reintroduction of previous characters such as Space Beth, Cronenberg Jerry, and Prime Rick are welcomed. It seems like Rick's character is finally going through major development, as the mad scientist is now forced to face his past. The plot also allows for Morty to face his past, with his return to the Cronenberg dimension. I hope this theme of the characters being forced to face their past and deal with the consequences remains throughout the rest of the season. The episode also surprised me with a truly moving portrayal of Cronenberg Jerry. After two seasons of absence, Morty's original Dad returns with an incredibly tragic yet thought-provoking character arc. It turns out that Morty's original Beth and Summer died, forcing Jerry to be on his own. But this surprisingly turned Jerry into a hardened lone survivor. Jerry has always been portrayed as pathetic in the series, so seeing a version of him that truly lost everything and was forced to grow from it is not only new, but incredibly interesting to see. It sucked to see Jerry go so soon, but the end-credits scene does a great job of setting up Prime Rick as the next big bad of the show.
The season 5 finale opens up an infinite amount of possibilities and directions for the characters and show to go in. Although this is only the season 6 premier, I'm very excited to see what's yet to come. If the rest of the season continues to keep up the quality, I feel confident in calling this the best season since season 3.
Young Justice (2010)
You know it's good when the lowest rated episode has an 8.2 out of 10!
I grew up loving the Teen Titans and Justice League animated series's. Both came and went, and while they had fantastic runs, I wanted more. Young Justice does an great job at satisfying this crave, as it combines elements from both series's to make an amazing comic book cartoon. The characters are all fleshed out and interesting, the animation is beautiful, the stories are exciting, all the emotional beats hit, and the action is intense. If you're a DC fan or just a fan of animation in general, I highly recommend this show. It's continued to be one of the best cartoons ever, so good that it was brought back years after being cancelled.
Final Space: Forgiveness (2021)
Heartbreaking
This is the first episode of any tv show ever to truly make me feel anxious and emotional. The main plot of this episode is very calm and beautiful, while the other plot is down right sad, intense, and full of emotion. I was on the edge of my seat, but also in a state of serenity. It's hard to explain.
WandaVision (2021)
Give it a chance
This show is pretty weird and strange. It's totally unlike anything in the MCU. Don't expect there to be big CGI battles and action. It's a comedy that takes inspiration from old sitcoms. Episode 1 in particular is a homage to sitcoms of the 50s such as "I Love Lucy". It's really funny in a unique way as it's got that campy sitcom vibe to it, but the two leads played by Paul Bettany and Elizabeth Olson are really fun. And the show has a few creepy moments to show that clearly something is wrong. We just have to watch and find out. There are only 2 episodes out thus far so many people are writing it iff as trash. It's really not though, and I think people need to fully watch it to make their own opinions on it.
South Park: Good Times with Weapons (2004)
Probably The Best Episode
South Park is known nowadays for having pretty mediocre and even bad season premieres, but I think the older seasons (specifically seasons 1-8) usually nailed it with the premiere, and this is no different. This is one of the first, if not the first episode to have its own unique animation. Taking heavy inspiration from anime, the episode follows the boys playing ninja, and the anime is meant to show us their perspective. Butters, and even Craig's gang get up in the mix, and this is when the show decides to have awesome fight scenes between them, and even a song that pokes jabs at anime intros. If you love South Park you'll love it, if you love anime you'll love it. It's pretty much a win win episode.
South Park: The Pandemic Special (2020)
Nailed it
Wow, wow, wow. South Park does it again. As always, this show brings to us the people what we need, good laughs. And this episode certainly has plenty of that. It covers pretty much everything, school, trump, people who won't wear masks, police brutality, all of it. And it does it right. The ending also had a really touching speech from Stan.
