Köshpendiler (2005)
I didn't know there was an English version
I saw this in passing at the video store. It caught my eye, and after reading the summary I was hooked. I got it home, and into the DVD player and realized it was subtitled. Dread initially came over me, as I generally do not like subtitled movies. However, this is one of the few exceptions. The movie was fantastic, and after watching it in the original language with English subtitles, I don't think I could ever watch a dubbed version. It was well acted, action packed, and pleasantly surprising. I was very impressed with Kuno Becker, Jay Hernandez, and Jason Scott Lee in this foreign language film. If you are interested in a Genghis Kahn like film, I highly recommend.
Battle Beyond the Stars (1980)
Classic B-movies from the past
It is no Star Wars mind you, but I had such pleasant memories of this film from my childhood that I had been looking for it for years. Imagine my surprise when the local video store had it on DVD. I immediately grabbed it and enjoyed it again. Aside from the stock footage and the low budget, I think what makes this such a good B-movie is the names attached. I mean, its not like anyone knows who Gale Anne Hurd is, or James Cameron. It was the tricks of the special effects trade that Cameron learned under Corman that led to the glorious special effects we saw in The Terminator.
Speaking of stock everything. I think some of the Horner music might have also been lifted for Krull. Watch it, and enjoy it for what it is...a great B-Movie.
Good Advice (2001)
Pleasantly Surprising!
I just happened into the Electronics section of a national retailer, and happened to see the cover of "Good Advice". Having been a 'Big' fan of Angie Harmon's, I decided to purchase based solely on the fact that I was a fan of hers, and by reading the back of the sleeve, it sounded good. Oh, was it ever! I was laughing harder than I could remember in recent times, and was extremely pleased with my choice. Two thumbs up!!
Short Time (1990)
Great Movie
This is truly one of the funniest movies, I've seen. I used to watch it several times a week. I highly recommend this one if you like offbeat comedies. One of the funniest things was something I didn't even notice the first three times I saw it...What you ask? The names of the main characters...Burt and Ernie. That's right folks, the two cops are named after two of your favorite childhood friends. ENJOY!!
Bloodsport (1988)
Great Martial arts flick
well it has been thirteen years since I saw the movie for the first time, and it amazes me as much now as when I was a teenager. Some say it is Van Damme's best, and yes I can say that he was great in it, because he was focused on the action as opposed to his later films where he focused on being a man with a HUGE ego. HAHA! he's in B movie land now, but he had his moment in the spotlight with this great martial arts flick.
Battlestar Galactica (1978)
Great Childhood memories
After reading the other summaries, and being an avid SCI-FI gamer. Did you ever realize the Similarities between Galactica, and a game called Master of Orion, in which 12 colonies settle in known space and then are threatened by an alien race which annihilates them, but the remaining humans search for the infamous 13th colony which left known space to colonize what later became Earth. Can't wait to see the new series!!
