Kachou no Koi (2010)
Absolutely hilarious.
Ok, it's funny. Really, really funny. I don't think I ever laughed as hard at anything Japanese. But! It's not really animation. It has the same relation to anime as South Park has to western cartoons, namely, there's just a bunch of paper cut-outs being manually moved around the screen. And it's a parody, so not a lot of plot, or character development or that sort of serious stuff. But you can tell this was made with a lot of love for yaoi, and if you are a fan yourself, this is guranteed to make your day.
Yami no matsuei (2000)
Worst anime I've seen through to the end.
So, as I said, this series has the dubious honor of being the worst I've managed to stick with to the end. But this means I did see it through, as opposed to just losing it after an episode or less. So let's look at the good things first, eh?
The art is superb. All the characters are gorgeous: heroes, support team, villains, victims, everybody. Real eye candy. The protagonists are engaging and loveable, and the premise is interesting.
Then there's the plot. I bow to thee and beseech thee, the twelve gods that protect me, what is this horror of a plot? It's got more holes than a swiss cheese. It has more guns that don't end up shooting than a Texas weapon fair. It's full of people being so friggin' stupid it's physically painful. Nothing makes any kind of sense. The choices, the relationships, the outcomes, everything is forced and pretty much random.
To be fair, if you watch to the end, the antagonist does have a reason for the way he acts. It's not reasonable, it lacks internal logic, but his actions are not as completely random as it seems for most of the series.
Honestly, I would not pay for this series, and I'm debating asking for my time back.
Haikyû!! (2014)
Loved it!!! (Note that both trailers are for Hakuoki - a different series)
Ok, I need to disclose first that I am an avid fan of volleyball in general, so that may color my pleasure with this title, but I really think it's an excellent show regardless. I'm thouroughly in love with every single one of the characters, from the opposite in character protagonists, through their intricately portrayed team-mates, and on to every one of their fascinating, quirky, intimidating and hilarious rivals. Everyone gets their share of attention and care, and the overall result is pure joy.
Suki-tte î na yo. (2012)
Yet another victim of the Good-Short-Anime-Looking-For-A-Sequel syndrome
I actually enjoyed this series quite a lot. The characters are deep and believable, their interaction is realistic, and the story is uplifting and touching. Unfortunately, instead of bringing it to a proper close at the end of the season, the creators aimed for leaving openings for another season, so the final chapters really drag out, and the ending is very unsatisfactory, which of course leads to the show not being renewed.
In summary, this is not the best show out there, but it's a very decent show for after you're done with the smash hits, and well worth the time to watch.
Sakamoto desu ga? (2016)
A superb short anime. I don't understand how it's rated so low.
This is a somewhat subtle comedy in the sense that if you miss a joke, you'll never know. Everything can be taken as 100% serious, so I suppose if someone is into the humor of The Three Stooges, this is not the show for them.
The show is of course not about Sakamoto, nor about perfect people. It is about the way we all react to those who we think are superior to us, from trying to put them down, through grupie admiration, and finally holding your own and finding the things in which you are actually better than those perfect cool-cooler-coolest folk.
I found the show to be uplifting, entertaining, compationate and deeply perceptive. But again, if you're looking for the roaring-up-in-laughter variety of humor, keep looking.
And, yes. Don't watch the OVA.
