Alex Garland and Ray Mendoza crafts a realistic portrait of war and the soldiers experience during the Bush era of the United States and the Middle East. Inter placed with raw tense sound designs, effects and strong performances from all of the cast members. Garland and Mendoza successfully crafts a tale about the harsh realities of war, without glorifying or promoting war as a form of propaganda. Rather, to allow the viewers to see the terrors and harshness that individuals from both sides encounter during war.
The filmmaker's used great choices to present the battle sequences, the tension, dialogue between the characters and editing that helps to establish the vibe and surrounding moments. Including certain tense sequences that really leave you feel in shock for how tense they were. As mentioned, the performances are all great without a single bad performance. I do appreciate when filmmakers are able to get the military topics correctly done.
However, what makes the movie prevent from being masterful is that the characters don't really have much depth and lacks the emotional connection. You don't really get to feel them on an emotional level to fully embrace their situations at times. Including some jarring choices towards certain ways how the scenes were presented when it came to some themes and concepts that felt a bit off putting.
Overall, it's a good war movie that doesn't hold punches. I have been aware that other reviews have criticized the move for being glorifying war or being all "America is good" type approach. I disagree because this movie clearly doesn't have any notions of being proud or glorifying, rather a criticism of war and how it affects people.

Keep in mind, this review isn't meant to be a criticism of religion, but rather about the movie itself. I have nothing against with anyone who is religious nor in that community.
The story of Jesus and the importance of him and religion has been done so many times, to the point that it is becoming more repetitive and uninteresting. With poor animation, subpar voice performances, and uninteresting writing, this boring tale about Jesus and the situations surrounding his important moments doesn't really do justice with it's message, rather, it's becomes a slog.
The writing tries to blend some different characters and tales to connect with the themes, but they don't feel stable and rather quite uninteresting and dull. Including poor sound designs, animation that is pretty rough (noting some pieces aren't finished) and voice performances that are trying, but come off pretty rough on the edges. It's quite baffling with a really large A-Star cast, giving out a real poor performance really shows the lacking passion and creativity that was made behind the scenes.
Alongside with rough dialogue, bad musical score and pacing. Angel Studio continues to try to establish forced meaningful stories to earn themselves a good reputation. But unfortunately, they just come off as forced propaganda, and not in a good way. I recommend Prince of Egypt if you want a better Christian animated story, or VeggieTales.

What happens when someone loves Wes Anderson but also lives in Winnipeg, Canada, and decides to make some absurdist tale about culture, Persian identity, and adventures? That's what basically Universal Language.
An absolute absurd blast of a flick that offers a odd examination of the Canadian landscapes and Persian style throughout. Matthew Rankin provides a hilarious, humane and warm absurd tale with some gorgeous camerawork, funny performances, dialogue and banter throughout. Interplaced with several strange storylines and characters, it's quite an joy to observe seeing something quite strange and weird, yet still remaining unique.
