Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog (1993)
SONIC SEZ!
I love this cartoon. It is so off the wall surreal I just crack up throughout. It's colourful and fun, takes a lot of its cues from the Mega Drive games and the voice acting is superb.
After all this time I never knew Grounder was voiced by Gary Chalk, who I know as the nasty head of security from THE FLY II lol
Jaleel White is always going to be sonic to me.
Best Sonic cartoon there'll ever be (but I hope I'm wrong).
Sonic the Hedgehog (2020)
AAAAAAALLLLL RIGHTY-THEN!
I really thought this was going to be rubbish but I loved it. Wholesome family fun! Sonic, who has been portrayed as an insufferable fratboy for a long time now, was a charming delight. Carrey, who I thought would be miscast as Robotnik, was hilarious and perfect for the role. Sumpter and Marsden are a really lovely onscreen couple and Marsden and Sonic have a great chemistry.
It was awesome to see so many references to the games (classic and modern) woven into a fresh new story.
Looking forward to the sequel!
Chaotix (1995)
KNUCKLES' CHAOTIX
This is the only spin off game that I play alongside the main series. It's great. It gets a lot of hate from people who get frustrated by the tether mechanic but let me tell you, if you give it time you'll realise that you can move accurately and with great speed!
Play as Knuckles, Espio, Mighty, Charmy, Vector, Bomb and Heavy through tower block levels of platforming madness! Bonus stages inspired by a small animated scene from SONIC CD, truly classic special stages, and bosses marginally harder than those of SONIC CD!
I love it.
Sonic 3D: Flickies' Island (1996)
SONIC 3D: FLICKIES' ISLAND
Oh wow, SONIC 3D!!! I loved this game so hard when it came out. It gets a lot of hate but doooood, it's isometric heaven!
And that music! So good.
The special stages! 14 of them, 7 for emeralds and 7 for lives. Wonderful.
My only wish is that super sonic be in it. I know, the Director's Cut, and that other ROM hack, but I can only enjoy it in the original game because that's what I love! But oh well, it's fine.
I love collecting Flickies and depositing them in the rings. I love running on lava in the fire shield. I love spinning through rock and being fired out of a cannon! If you like all that too, look no further!!
Sonic Mania (2017)
SONIC MANIA PLUS
This is the game I and many others had been waiting for since the 90's. It's the ultimate Sonic game. My only gripe with it is the lack of new zones BUT, since this game is on the same world the previous instalments were, it only makes sense Sonic and the others would have to revisit the same places at least once. And let's not forget, this game doesn't simply rehash the old greats, it takes us into new but familiar territory. The new zones are awesome by the way.
We can play as Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Mighty and Ray. What an array of characters, each with abilities unique to them! And encore mode stretches everything out into basically a new experience. It's like a second game on the disc.
I love the UFO special stages. I love the Blue Special stages. I love the Mean Bean Machine.
I love Sonic's Super form standing still animations. I love the sheer scale of the levels. I love how polished every single pixel is. The music is so crisp.
All I have to say: WHERE IS SONIC MANIA 2?!?!?!
Sonic & Knuckles (1994)
SONIC AND KNUCKLES
Possibly the greatest platformer ever made (second only to Sonic 3 Complete, really) this is the pinnacle of 16bit gaming. Somehow everything we got from Sonic's 1, 2 and CD were fine tuned to absolute perfection and the end result is a breathtaking whopper of a rollercoaster ride!
With an incredible 12 zones (23 acts), each Act three times the size of the levels in the previous games, 14 blue sphere special stages (that's 14 emeralds to collect!), and an evolution of the great Super Sonic, plus elemental shields and fun bonus levels, not to mention Knuckles' campaign with levels altered for his abilities, this is AWESOME!
Play it, complete it, get all the emeralds, and bask in the glory of the experience that is Sonic & Knuckles.
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (1992)
SONIC THE HEDGEHOG 2
Sonic is back and ramped up! He's accompanied by Miles Per Hour (Prower) TAILS! Who is both helpful and a massive pain depending on the situation.
This game contains some of the most iconic levels, tunes and scenarios in Sonic's history. Not only did Masato Nakamura compose a bunch of memorable and awesome tracks they also fit each level perfectly. Genius.
The special stages start off a challenge but wow once you get into them they're totally awesome!
Gameplay is superb. Sonic is smooth and you'll whip up a breeze for sure!
Sonic CD (1992)
SONIC CD
Wow, what a game! Its Stunningly designed levels and smooth soundtrack are to die for. Metallic Madness, in good future, has that peaceful chilled out vibe that the music levels in RAYMAN have and what a place to complete the game.
Sonic's moveset are a step up from the classic SONIC THE HEDGEHOG but otherwise the game is very similar (only much more detailed). The peelout is the main new mechanic, besides time travel, and for some reason the spin dash isn't great in this game.
I love this game, it's awesome!
Sonic the Hedgehog (1991)
SONIC THE HEDGEHOG
The Game
"SONIC THE HEDGEHOG" is a classic. Forget about how it started the Sonic franchise and take in this vibrant, imaginative, bouncy game with its array of quirky antagonists, colourful and challenging levels, and absolutely beautiful soundtrack.
Environmentalist at its core this game takes you on a wholesome adventure through an exciting yet perilous world. Green Hill, Marble, Scrap Yard, Labyrinth, Starlight, Scrapbrain; all iconic zones from Sonic's canon.
Gritty is an understatement. Although cartoonish this is a tough-mudder of a game. Spike traps, the fear of being crushed or burned or drowned, and tight spots with enemies, not to mention the ringless final boss fight.
A great game.
SPECIAL STAGES
I love these special stages. It's like moving through water only with gravity constantly pulling you down. They're great to master.
