Antim: The Final Truth (2021)
Ayush-Salman power-packed punches gets audience clapping,cheering
I might have given more stars for theatre experience.
But theatre had turned into stadium. An experience to cherish.
What a dialogues by Mahesh Manjrekar.
Fast paced screenplay that doesn't give viewers time to think.
Salman Khan surprises shedding MACHO MAN Image.
Ayush Sharma exceeds expectations.
Nanya Bhau was a surprise & made us want to hate him. Mahima M is fine in her role. Casting very good.
People who don't understand Marathi won't find Bhai Ka BIRTHDAY appealing but staying true to its genre, director, Mahesh Manjrekar has choose right music. A universally appealing music would have taken away the feel of movie based in Maharashtra.
Even if one ignores music, this is one of best movies to come in Bollywood. Raw action.
Any well known actor in place of Ayush Sharma this was a 250 cr movie.
Radhe (2021)
Good act and action by Randeep Hooda-SK, Gautam Gulati is a surprise package
The story is routine but it's treatment is what makes it watchable. Water tight screenplay. Terrific interval sequence. Antagonist-Protagonist whenever they come in the frame both tear down the house
Chartbuster music
The unnecessary romantic track hinders the screenplay and bit of work on nuances would have helped the movie to be a blockbuster. Perhaps , Salman's fan will love the romantic track but chemistry seems lacking.
Overall,It's marked improvement from Race-3 , Dabangg-3 but it's not TZH,KICK. It's more like a Bodyguard, Dabangg-2.
Action film lover and SALMAN KHAN fans won't be disappointed.
Paurashpur (2020)
A web-series that leaves you wondering the intention behind making this expensive joke
No story or even a backstory of any character. Screenplay not at all engaging. Poor acting by everyone.
Enough said-the unnecessary angle of Patriarchy and which bears no semblance to reality.
A great location doesn't make series watchable
Skip this joke and spread the word as well else ALT BALAJI will continue to take viewers for granted and put up such series after series.
Also, it seems makers took patriarchy quite seriously as it left no scope for its female actresses to display their acting prowess.
Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta Story (2020)
You cannot miss this gripping and highly entertaining series
Perfect casting, great acting, terrific BGM and a narrative that doesn't let you bore for even a single minute despite 40 plus minute of total 10 episode and dialogues that would be remembered for ages.
All I say is leave aside whatever you are doing and watch this series.
It's one of the gems of the Indian cinema.
Chhalaang (2020)
Passable film made watchable by the brilliant acting
Rajkummar Rao and rest of the star cast act brilliantly.
But the story is routine, and it's treatment, execution very ordinary. The climax is very weak.
Background music is standard; hence the desired impact of the critical scenes are lessened to a great extent. The film could have been 15-20 mins less. The direction isn't extraordinary.
So overall the film turns to be average. Music is decent.
It's a one time watch
Laxmii (2020)
Disappointing remake
Akshay's act is terrific. Kiara is more in the film for glamorous act this has a limited scope.
But writing is the biggest letdown. The character arc from the original film is changed hence Laxmii lacks impact.
The dialogues, forced comedy and acting of supporting cast is so-so and sometimes irritating.
In second half, pace gets better and movie lightens up with Sharad Kelkar. His emotional speech on transgender could bring tears in the eyes of the faint hearted. But it's little late.
Song picturization of BamBholle, Burj Khalifa are good but placement isn't.
All in all , the product turns to be average.
Expectations were high with Raghava Lawrence as director and Akshay Kumar as the leading hero but sadly the directions leaves a lot to be desired.
Editing needed to be better.
Why Hindu-Muslim marriage was shown or what's significance of Akshay's brother son only writers can answer. Overall screenplay is disjointed.
Wakaalat from Home (2020)
Good Idea but execution wasn't upto the mark
Acting wise Nidhi Singh is very good. Kubra Sait fine along with Gopal Dutt and Sumeet Vyas. Editing needed to be sharp. Dialogues also should have been more humorous. It has some good moments but those fails to evoke laughter. Execution fell flat. Screenplay cannot hold audience attention for all ten episodes despite the fresh story or attempt.
V (2020)
Good act let down by Poor Writing
Nani, Sudheer Babu act very well.Thomas,Aditi Rao Hyadri alright. But writing is average. In fact,Romantic Angle of the protagonist wasn't required. Predictable plot after a point. The movie starts well but the viewers lose interest in the final hour. Nivedita
Strictly one time watch.
Ram Singh Charlie (2020)
Circus of life enveloped in a emotional ride
Kumud Mishra takes the center-stage and shines like a diamond in this web-film. The story is not original but writing and performance of the protagonist makes the screenplay an emotional ride. You root for Charlie or RamSingh.
The supporting cast lend a good support. The BGM magnifies the impact of the film. There is everything in movie you see in the life:Struggles,Disappointment,Victories,Brotherhood and Family. It might seem slow burn for very few but it's not more than 100 mins and you can watch the movie with your entire family.
if you were not Kumud Mishra fan you will become one after watching this film. A strong contender for the movie of the 2020.
Just wish the Charlie character got the closure it deserved.
JL50 (2020)
Well Executed Sci-Fi film
Good writing and execution complemented by good acting by Abhay Deol, Piyush Mishra,Ritika Anand and good part that most web-series lack is good editing. Extra mark for editing only. No moment for the boredom as it's 4 episode only and none more than 35 minutes.
Better VFX ,better production value and better BGM in first three episode could have made it a cult. But nonetheless such attempt needs to be applauded.
It's a step in right direction when it comes to Sci-fi films in India. There is an emotional arc revealed towards the end and that leaves viewer with smile on their face.
Flesh (2020)
Needless drag which should not have been made at first place
Poor writing, poor casting, poor acting ,poor direction and screenplay bores you to death. What looked-like a detailed Mardaani-2 from the trailer ends up forgettable web-series.And so many cuss words which were not needed at all.
Bandish Bandits (2020)
Treat for Music Lovers
Music is the soul of this web - series but not to say it has its share of flaws. Firstly, the screenplay dips at certain places and editing also isn't upto the mark. The love triangle could have been explored further and love story between the leading pair needed to be good developement for the viewers to feel the separation.
But the last episode is treat for the music lover. The face-off in the Sangeet Samrat is the best of this series. It has tremendous repeat value. All actors and actresses have done a commendable job. The costumes, set design are top rate.
Khuda Haafiz (2020)
Vidyut the actor shines in a routine film
Vidyut the actor is good in the moment of vulnerability & expressing love. But the action hero needed to break more bones which takes away USP of the movie. Shiv Pandit, Ahana Kumara act well & get their own action sequences. Both have worked hard to get Arabic tone & dictation for this movie. Location are fantastic. Shivaleeka Oberoi looks beautiful but gets limited screen time. And as a result Vidyut-Shivaleeka screen time together is very less for viewers to feel connected to their story.
The story needed more power-packed dialogues & action sequence to go the distance. Direction is average. Editing is fair. Music is good but none of the songs are chartbuster.
Overall, average at best. One star extra for Vidyut's performance.
Lootcase (2020)
An Entertaining fare for the family
The dialogues, drama and performances are good which keeps audience hooked till the very end.
Kunal Kemmu, Rasika Duggal excels in their respective role while Vijay Raaz is first rate as Bala Rathor. His style of using scientific names for animals is novel and surely there will be adding many more subscribers for the 'NAT GEO'.
Gajraj Rao,Ranvir Shorey are quite good. And other's chip in with their some good work. Editing is to the point.
The production value is the minus point. It didn't feel like a film for the big screen. Also no chartbuster music in the film takes away bit of sheen.
Overall it's merit make it a must watch to evoke laughter in these distressing times.
Dil Bechara (2020)
Heart warming film let down by average direction
Sushant Singh Rajput gives his best along with Sanjana Sanghi. Swastika Mukherjee as mom of Kizzie shines. Some good work from other starcast. The title track Dil Bechara,Taare Ginn are already hit and their picturization is good.Editing is sharp.
However biggest letdown is the writing and Mukesh Chabbra's direction. It's below average. Those who have seen the Fault in the star would know how important the intimate scenes and climax speech was but sadly neither of them creates desired impact. Saif Ali Khan's character ended up being under-utilised.
All stars for the star of Dil Bechara who carried the movie on his shoulder.
Undekhi (2020)
Well crafted story & engaging screenplay that holds you till the very end
Credit to writer, director and team for getting in talented actors, actresses on board. But job didn't end their the team also managed to put up an engaging web series that holds your attention till the very end. At no point does screenplay seemed slow or jumpy.
The story was about how Harsh Chayya killed a tribal woman in a party before his son's wedding and what follows is how his family uses all its power & position to clear its name from the whole scene while DSP Ghosh played by Dibyendu Bhattacharya is an honest cop who goes all out to catch the punish the culprit.
So does DSP succeed in his endeavour? What all does perennially drunk and power hungry Papaji do to keep murder under the cover? Who succeeds in the end is the what this web series uncovers.
Coming to acting, Dibyendu has seamlessly eased into the role of the DSP. His dialogue delivery's, silence are top-rate. Harsh Chayya who plays the role of misogynistic, power hungry and drunkard Papaji puts performance that makes you hate him. Surya Sharma as Rinku the right hand of Papaji shines throughout. Apeksha Porwal does a splendid job and gets the dictations of a tribal woman right. She gets to do the action and has her moments.Abhishek Chauhan as Rishi who recorded the murder of tribal girl acts very well as a vulnerable man who is wrongly framed in two murders. Aanchal Sharma looks beautiful throughout and is sensational when it comes to acting. Her transformation in the second half shows her range of acting. Ayn Zoya looks sexy and plays her role effectively.
Editing is very sharp, and credit to them for keeping it on point. Dialogues are good. Direction, writing are top-notch.
Locations are beautiful and so are the costumes.
There are some loopholes as well. But you can overlook them and to few it might not make a difference.
All in all, a must watch for everyone. If you are crime thriller fan you should head straight up after reading this review.
Rasbhari (2019)
Rasbhari tries doing many thing ultimately falling short in whichever direction wheel is steered
I didn't really get the genre of the web-series. That is the deathknell. It tries too many things :comedy, horror, thriller and falls short by long way in each of those attempt.
In short had story stayed in Lust Stories mode or into the Stree zone may be there would have been something substantial to write about the series. Editing is good. In all, eight episode with each not more than 35-40 mins.
The web-series audience will not like the screenplay as well. The cameraman hasn't done a good job with different angles especially when it was in Gaandi Baat or XXX mode. There are no laughs as well as the lust factor.
Swara Bhaskar is just alright. Nothing special to write about her performance.
The school kids have done good job.
All in all can be skipped.
K.G.F: Chapter 1 (2018)
Riveting Gangster Drama that leaves you Yearning for more
Like is the case with many of action-thriller including the biggest blockbusters such as The War ,Tiger Zinda hai the story is not the strength of the movie but what works is electrifying Background music and Yash the angry young man aka gangster Rocky bhai charismatic presence.
The story has emotional touch to the life of this larger than life hero when his dying mother takes promise from her 10 yr old son to be one of the richest man in the World. Her upbringing, teaching through her struggles shines throughout the movie especially in the climax. Some dialogue might come across as cringy but many strike a chord with viewers heart one such as mother are the strongest warrior. The cinematography is top rate and action in the second half especially in the last 30-40 mins forces you to draw parallel with Baahubali.
And screenplay is written in such a way that keeps the viewers hooked with the growth of Rocky from streets of Bombay to the fields of KGF.The songs are alright. Rest of the Cast have done good job in the acting department. But the star of the show is Yash.
KGF Chapter-1 unapologetically delivers what it set to achieve but it makes the viewers gasping for more of the drama.
Commando 3 (2019)
Engaging with Paisa Vasool action
Karan Dogra (Vidyut Jamwwal) goes to London with colleague Bhawana (Adah Sharma) to nab a dreaded terrorist, Buraq (Gulshan Devaiah) who is about to carry out blast akin to 9/11. Although he is not sure but quite convinced that Buraq is operating from London. And Karan has 33 days to catch the culprit.
Karan and Bhawana are joined by London police officer Malika (Angira Dhar) and computer expert Armaan (Sumeet Thakur).
Buraq has a wife, Zaheera (Feryna Wazheir), and son, Abeer (Atharva Vishwakarma). He is working in close conjunction with terrorists who are funded by ISIS in Pakistan. Do Karan and his team accomplish the mission? What are challenges they need to overcome to avoid attack on India is uncovered in the movie.
The story is routine but screenplay keeps you hooked throughout. Action is its USP and Vidyut is excellent. Gulshan Devaiah is devious as Burakh. Rest all act well. The dialogues are good at places but one does wish for more patriotic flavour. Editing is sharp. Action scenes and stunts breathtaking. BGM heightens the tension and magnifies the impact. The tame climax is a roadblock and also no blockbuster song.
But all in all ,this is a must watch for action-thriller movie fan.
Extraction (2020)
It's all out fight from the word go
Tyler Rake (Chris Hemsworth) is recruited by fellow mercenary Nik Khan(Golshifteh Farahani) to rescue Ovi (Rudhraksh Jaiswal)from Dhaka, Bangladesh. Rake and Khan's team prepare to extract Ovi, with his father's men set to pay them once Ovi is recovered. Is Tyler successful? What all enemies he has to fight to bring back Ovi and do both make it back successfully is what the story covers.
There are some impressive stunt work and fantastically steroidal action sequences by both Chris Hemsworth ,Randeep Hooda(Saju) and even Golshifteh Farahani towards the end. Golshifteh as Nik looks beautiful. Randeep and Chris have some great moments of guns blazing and combat knives stabbing.with each other and against Asif's man. As action takes the centrestage the story goes for a toss as case is with most of the action series. Many would call is mindless. The movie does get tedious after an hour but quickly finds its feet once Ovi(14 yr old) kills the Gasper(David Harbour ). Yes, 14 yr old has moments as well. And, bond between the Ovi and his saviour Tyler do carry emotion so Tyler going all out for Ovi does make sense.
Though I would have loved to see backstory of Ovi Mahajan Sr(Pankaj Tripathi) and Amir Asif(Priyanshu Painyuli) for me to be fully invested into the series. Such detailing was absent and many a times you could wonder if all the bloodbath is all worth it.
All in all, for action movie fans, it is a must watch.
Sufiyum Sujatayum (2020)
Body Beautiful ,minus Soul
The story where a mute Hindu girl,Sujata (Aditi Rao Hydari) falls in love with Muslim guy,Sufi (Dev Mohan) and because of parent's disapproval for the relationship she gets married to Rajeev (Jayasurya) based in Dubai. After 10 yrs Rajeev gets calls to comes back to same place .So will the girl meet her ex-flame? And under what circumstances? The movie uncovers all these aspects.
The love story is like dramas of 90s without any detailing and hence you don't feel connected with story or Sujata when couple separates. It looks rather hurried and their chemistry lacks magic. The climax is not at all impressive.
The dance is important factor throughout film. And Dev Mohan isn't dancing you can very well make out. That's another let down as per me. Also Aditi is fine when it comes to dance.
Acting wise all are good. Aditi looks pretty throughout the film but chemistry ,emotion and magic between Sufi and Sujata is weakest part. And that ruins the movie.Music is good.
The story, screenplay and acting considered Sufiyum Sujatayum can be skipped.
Choked (2020)
Movie resuscitated by Saiyami Kher
There is no story to start or tell as a result screenplay and synchronisation lack the connect to hold the audience. It has something about demonetization and Anurag Kashyap views on the issue. But frankly viewer's don't want to know. BGM is irritating. Dialogues forgettable.
Coming to acting,Saiyami Kher who is top rate as Sarita;her silence ,eye expression and way she carried herself will amaze if you are seeing her for first time. Roshan Matthews ,Amrita Subhash do well in their respective roles. But you never can comprehend why, what and how. Editor can't be blamed because the whole movie had to be cut if he tried to be fair.
In short, a movie that wasn't needed but it's very tough to say skip it because Saiyami Kher deserved better.
Bulbbul (2020)
Tripti Dimri show all the way
The story is about 8 yr old girl Bulbbul (Tripti Dimri) who gets married in a rich family with man of same age as her father ,Mahendra (Rahul Bose)while growing up she finds a companion in the family in her brother - in- law,Satya, played by Avinash Tiwary who share same vision and interest towards life as a result develop good bond. Binodini(Paoli Dam),wife of his mentally challenged look-alike brother of Mahendra, is jealous of Mahendra's zeal for Bulbbul and fills his ear about growing closeness between Bulbul and Satya. One fine day Mahendra backpacks Satya to London for studying law without Bulbul getting a trace of hint and when Satya comes back after five years things change drastically in the haveli and the neighbourhood . So what happens to Bulbbul -Satya story? Do they end up together? What are challenges Bulbbul faces at her in law's house after Satya leaves? And what are the changes in those five years is the story of Bulbbul.
The screenplay is slow in the first hour and picks up towards the end and as a result comes across jumpy. And the whole horror angle leaves the viewer confused as to how this turn of events occured and why so. Sadly, it's left for viewers to guess and this makes it hard to audience to feel the Bulbbul's story
There needed to be emphasis on Avinash once he is on the way to London and in those five years away from home & Bulbbul.
This gap is the biggest drawback in the story. And as a result whole movie comes off as passable.
Coming to acting, Tripti Dimri as Bulbbul is the first rate she shines in every shot and looks very beautiful. Avinash Tiwary is good but one does wish they had substantial scenes together and rest all are alright in their respective roles.Cinematography is good. Editing was okay given the story.
All in all, it's a one time watch if you have time.
Jamai 2.0 (2019)
Sid-Roshini Chemistry carries the show while everything else pales
Firstly the film or web series whatever you call it was filmed in beautiful location of Pondicherry (if location mentioned in film are to be considered)
It's not carryover from Jamai Raja. But if you had watched Jamai Raja show it won the heart mainly due to its off beat content where Sid acts as a glue to keep family together instead of typical Bahu in the Hindi serials where bulk of the work is done by the female protagonist.
It's more of a action-thriller as Sid gets to do some action right from the episode -1 till the very end. As usual both Nia- Ravi's chemistry shines throughout whenever they are together or even when Roshini is upset with Sid. But it's the usual old drama that really gets on the nerve of the viewer. The excitement to know why Sid was after ruining DD was lacking and revelation of the whole drama is something you seen or heard umpteen time.None of the character are worth remembering apart from lead pair off course. And even DD isn't being used to her fullest potential and that Jamai-Saas nok-jhok from the first season was not quite present.
TBH, a sequel that was not needed.
The Test: A New Era for Australia's Team (2020)
Old Newspapers Stories put together
I must give credit to cameraperson in the series for beautifully capturing the close up moments. But if you follow cricket closely such as reading experts opinion, commentary and watching ex-cricketer live on some news channel then I reckon you know A-Z of what's shown. So avoid it & save your 8-9 hours. It's a attempt to clean Cricket Australia maligned image.
If you want to save your time then invest 30 mins in reading news of Australian cricket from 2018-2019. That's more than enough. I don't see much substance in the series.
Diehard Cricket fan can skip it.Since the finer details which we were expecting is null. The details such as why Tim Paine was removed from ODI captaincy? Why Jos Hazelwood didn't make it to World Squad,Why Justin Langar was the first choice as coach ,Why Joe Burns didn't make the cut in Australia's test team for the Ashes 2019 and many more are absent.
