Funhouse (2019)
I watched this for free but still want my money back.
This movie handles the idea of vapid celebrity culture and the TMZ style media coverage that follows, while playing out on the backdrop of a Saw style torture tournament. The outstanding issue is that the themes the film tries to comment on we have seen covered a hundred times in better, more subtle projects.
The damnation of meaningless celeb status is constantly waved in the audiences face which doesn't help the characters feel relatable, but perhaps thats the point? Non of these feelings are aided by the tepid script and questionable acting either, which led me into a sort of numb coma halfway through the film as I watched fictional instagram people being killed one by one and feeling nothing.
I recognise and respect that the film had a smaller budget and lesser known cast than most mainstream releases and aesthetically it was fairly pleasing and some scenes hit the mark and just about kept my interest afloat despite my often deflating attention. However I still ended the film feeling beaten down by the film's lacking apsects and especially the ending monologue delivered by the villain (AKA poundland moriarty) was so on the nose even Christopher 'headstone'Gerard would have been K.O'ed by it.
We get it, Instagram is bad, you didn't need to make a movie to tell us.
