The Guilty (2021)

Jake Gyllenhaal makes this movie good
6 April 2022
I love the original so much, but I was surprised to see how worthy of a remake this is. Aside from being clearly unrealistic, Jake Gyllenhaal's performance was extremely surprising. I haven't seen this much emotion put into a performance in a while. He is very very good in this. If it didn't star him, I'd probably have given this a 5 or 6. An okay remake, I guess? But a solid film with Jake Gyllenhaal's acting.

I wish I could give this more than 10 stars

Seriously, a genius film! The fact that it's so tense but you're not moving or hearing any music is incredible and the way that director Gustav Möller creates such awareness of the situation and the characters is unbelievable. The sensitivity to the subjects involved is very clear and tactful.

Escape Room (I) (2019)

Not that bad. Little cliche though
7 July 2021
I'd say this movie is for 14+. Some blood, a lot of tension. Very much a horror movie for teens. Overall, as someone who loves horror films, this was pretty decent! Don't listen to the horrible reviews! It's actually quite okay. If you don't normally watch horror films and want to get into more intense stuff by starting slow, this could be for you. It's like The Purge where you have an interesting concept but they don't quite do it justice. Very creative and detailed rooms! I was honestly impressed! Characters are very stereotypical and boring but the setting and rooms kind of outshine that!

The Owl House (2020–2023)

Best cartoon since Gravity Falls
11 May 2021
Warning: Spoilers
If you liked Gravity Falls, you might like this, too!

I'd say it's like Harry Potter/Amphibia/Gravity Falls combined.

It is something special and is such a breath of fresh air for Harry Potter/GF fans.

Beautiful animation, LGBT representation, actually funny comedy, great voice actors and deep lore that sucks you in.

Finally a show that represents LGBT teen girls. I relate so much to Amity and Luz and it is such a great step that Disney Channel is making.

I finished it in a week and have never gotten so into a cartoon before. It's been 7 months since I watched it and I still love it. I'm so excited for season 2.

Beautiful!
24 March 2021
I'm starting to get into anime and this is the first anime I've ever watched and I am addicted. Beautiful art and great voice acting! Comedy in the right places and tension in between! Love it! I can't wait to see more.

Liked it when I was younger

I used to watch when I was younger but I think when S5 came around it wasn't the same anymore. S1-4 were the glory days but then it just got frustrating with S5-7.

Scariest movie I've ever seen!
31 October 2020
TERRIFYING. Very scary. Good watch for horror fans. I did have trouble finding it in Spanish. On iTunes and Prime Video they only sell it with an English dub and that's it. I watched it in Spanish with subtitles on the app DailyNation. It's uploaded it two parts. It's totally free. Just search "Rec English subtitles" and you'll find it. Overall very impressive film!

One of the best shows on Disney+. PERIOD.
26 October 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I'm the same age as the teen characters in this show and I have never connected more to characters my age in a show before. I just finished season 4 last night and the last episode is probably one of the best series finales in tv history. It taught me a really good lesson. In S4/E10, Kelly says something that really stuck with me. When Marco asks her why she wants to go to the tower if she has memories with Tad there she says, "I just rewrite it and make it my own." I've been needing to hear that. Very mature for a kids show to say. Very well done show. For kids 8+. Some episodes are a little gross for kids I think.

Book was better, but still very creepy adaptation!
9 September 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I'm a huge fan of the book. I personally found that they just made the twist more ambiguous and confusing. I was kind of disappointed that they gave the main character a name. The whole point of the book is that you don't know her name. The book follows the same point. Unamed female main character is visiting her relatively new boyfriend's parents. After the visit they get some cold drinks and Jake insists on dumping them somewhere. They drive to an old high school to dump them. Jake throws them away and comes back and starts to make out with his girlfriend. He sees a guy watching them and goes in to fight him. Never comes back. Girlfriend goes in after him revealing that they are the same person and Jake is thinking of ending his own life. Some details are off. They get lemonades in the book instead of ice cream. Because girlfriend is lactose intolerant. Very small detail, I know. And I don't really care if they got that right or not. Etc. I also don't know why they cast A-list actors for the parents. The parents are barely in the book. The book is like 150 pages of backstory, 40 are meeting the parents and the rest is the ending! I would've liked to see the part in the book with the security cameras and the red paint and all the creepy stuff in the school. I sort of get the metaphor of Jake singing this heartbreaking ballad and then dying. What the heck was the interpritive dance supposed to mean?? I see that it represents a relationship. You see them get "married" and then a janitor kills "Jake?" What?? I'm very confused. I'm very impressed that with almost no gore and no jumpscares it manages to be a very scary film. Sort of beautiful in a way. I know that some fellow fans of the book will be kind of confused and others will think differently. This is the first Charlie Kaufman film I've ever seen. (I'm in high school.) My dad tells me that this is his thing. That he makes very confusing and ambiguous films sooo... I don't know. Overall, very creepy story. Love the actors! I've seen Jessie Buckley in Judy and she was great. Never seen Jesse Plemons before but I will definitely check out his other work. I've seen Toni Colette in Knives Out! And she was awesome. I've seen David Thewlis in Harry Potter and The Theory Of Everything. Weird to see him much older. Glad he is still acting!

This movie kind of reminds me of Get Out in a way.

I recommend this film if you want to get into horror but you're kind of sensitive to scary movies. It's creepy but not jumpy.

The Conjuring (2013)

Gave me chills
5 August 2020
I'm writing this review literally minutes after finishing it. Wow. Just wow. THIS MOVIE HAD IT ALL. The only reasons I gave it a 9 instead of a 10 is because it was a little cliche (You know, typical haunted house movie but still good) and I was so scared I could barely watch it without yelping or jumping. To be fair, I watched it at night so I'm getting what was coming to me. If you're someone like me who usually doesn't get scared by horror movies and prides yourself on that, you will be proved wrong! Vera Farmiga (Lorraine), Lili Taylor (Carolyn) and Joey King (Christine) really stood out to me. All three ladies did a fantastic job! Overall really well done and if you want a good scare this is for you. I've noticed people say it should be PG-13 and I see where they're coming from (No nudity, barely any language, mild gore) but I disagree. It talks about serious and disturbing things (child sacrifice, death by hanging, murder, etc.) I feel like it's in between R and PG-13 but it leans more towards R. 15 and up but depends on the teen. Definitely NOT for kids, though.
