Mean Girls (2024)
If you didn't like the original film and haven't seen the stage musical then you might love this
I've always had a hard time with the original film because it's too real and reminds me too much of the worst parts of high school, so the magical realism of the musical format really works for me. From what I've heard the stage musical is amazing, but until I see it live I have to say I adore this film. I love that the hottest girl is not the smallest, everyone is allowed to be a sympathetic character, technology is incorporated in a really interesting way, the set design is beautiful, and these songs really are well written. I can't wait to finally see it live and come to dislike this film as much as everyone else does in the rest of the reviews here.
Killing It (2022)
Very funny and rewatchable
I came for Claudia O'Doherty and stayed for literally everything else about this show. Similar to The Good Place in that its funniest moments are in the throwaway lines. I'm watching it for the second time right now because I couldn't stop thinking about "hot dog... hot doggg... HAHT DAAG" and it's even better the second time around!
Catherine Cohen: The Twist...? She's Gorgeous (2022)
Brilliant
This is the funniest cabaret show I've seen in my life. She describes her show as "for girls of all genders," so if you've never been a girl it might not be for you. Also it's true that it's sad, but in the best way. If you like bittersweet, weird musical comedy then you will probably enjoy this show.
