Chef Dynasty: House of Fang (2022)
Terrible
Kathy Fang comes across as a miserable, know it all with a valley girl, spoiled rich girl type of persona. Seeing how she interacts with people would make me deliberately go some place else to eat. I don't care how good her food is (or how good she thinks it is). She has a lot of growing up to do.
I'm a big fan of some of the chefs on the food network, but I can't get into a show if the stars aren't likable. She needs to bake some humble pie and eat some of it (actually she could stand to eat the whole thing). I haven't decided on whether or not I like her dad or not. The verdict is still out...
Wiener-Dog (2016)
Waste Of Time
I get the whole independent film genre and that a lot of it tends to be artsy pieces, some with a point and others just for the sake of making art. If this film is an art piece, then it's the equivalent of buying. canvas and then urinating on it.
Unfortunately, Weiner Dog really has no redeeming qualities. While I've read that others refer to it as "dark satire", it's still not funny, which I suppose is the point of satire to begin with. The film focusses around the broken lives of various characters, many who seem to be completely self-focussed and oblivious to anything else around them, including a poor dachshund, who gets passed around from owner to owner throughout the movie before ultimately meeting an untimely death of being run over repeatedly in the end sequence.
I respect the fact that some people like Todd Solondz and enjoy his films. I'm just not one of them and Weiner Dog is no exception. The only thing that might have made this film better is if Soldonz, himself, had been repeatedly run over by cars at the end of the film. That would have at least rid us of any future Solondz garbage.
