Shantaram (2022)
What a waste of great material
What a soulless and empty way to tell this great story. Charlie Hunnam overacts like for an audition for a Hallmark movie or a harlequin novel but it's not his fault. Directing is the worst of all. Won't even mention the directors or producers. They show you what you think you want to see and nothing else. Mistaking the audience for a fool.
The Indian characters are portrayed as childlike and naive sidecharacters with heavy prejudice. The white foreigner is the smart one and beloved by all. The streetsmart Karla Saaranen played by Antonia Desplat comes through as the strongest character but even her performance is poor and lacking. The only positive surprise was to see Vincent Perez as Didier but even his character is portrayed as weak.
Where is the passion? And the courage? And India! India is the center of the story and comes through as a whitewashed Bollywood series as can be. You can't find an ounce of any of it anywhere in the whole season.
What an incredible missed opportunity. When are the producers going to understand people do not want to watch this kind of crap anymore? Having lived in India it is the most wonderful and terrible place at the same time. It is hard as hell and the book described it very well.
Thankfully it got cancelled so we don't have to watch this nonsense anymore. If it would have been great or lived up to it's potential people would have found it and loved it.
Also the most annoying thing end it in a "cliffhanger" with a to be continued when ceratinly there was no such guarantee of it. Should have been a miniseries with whole bunch of different actors. And Charlie Hunnnam does not have the range to pull this off. Maybe a better chance with a professional director.
What a waste of great material.
The Lincoln Lawyer (2022)
At best a tv movie of the week
Comparing this to Bosch should be a crime. Two bit classic american no brainer tv drama. It has almost like an 80's early 90's law drama feeling to it without the smart and funny banter and sometimes even surprising twists. I don't know which is more boring the court room or the family drama. Bad acting, bad writing, bad everything. Netflix should consider firing again who is green lighting these kind of series. No wonder nobody wants to pay for the overpriced service anymore. They must think the audience is a bunch of brain dead fools willing to pay for anything. There is nothing to enjoy here. Skip it save almost ten hrs of your life. Maybe at best could have been a tv movie of the week. And who thought the lead Manuel Garcia-Rulfo could carry this?
The Guilty (2021)
Trouble getting through the whole 90 mins
Trailer was great and gripping. Couldn't wait to see the film. Turns out the trailer was just a great cut and it has nothing to do with this movie. Jake Gyllenhaal is ok in this but his character is a trainwreck in a bad way. The whole concept and ambiance is suppose to be very intimate but extreme closeups of lead actors face don't make it so. Neither does him yelling in the air and cursing out loud especially to his co-workers. Also the cursing just doesn't fit somehow. It's over the top and I would say overacting but knowing Gyllenhaals work most likely it's the script and/or the director demanding it. The rest of the cast seem to be separate and from a totally different movie. Bad acting with bad lines just make it so. Too bad. Too many things just don't work here.
6 Underground (2019)
Too bad
Like a superlong shaky epileptic music video with too many slow motion shots. With all the resources and Ryan Reynolds could have been enjoyable. Michael Bay should retire permanently.
Biggie: I Got a Story to Tell (2021)
Better to listen to Ready to Die
Man on the documentary says they recorded everything. Everything. So what is this nonsense they put together on fast forward from Netflix? Not insightful. Didn't like how he was portrayed. Neither Tupac. Waste of time. Better to listen to the original music than waste your time on this.Interviews are mostly terrible. Only thing I was thinking was did they take care of his moms cause it sure don't look like they did. So much money made from the music. Who pocketed it all? Questions not asked in this "documentary". Just a shot of table full of weed... Shame. Certainly could've come up with something better to respect The Man B.I.G.
