Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace (1999)
Much more a children's movie than the original Trilogy
Frankly, I was disappointed at this one... Compared to the original Trilogy, it had too many "obligatory comic sidekicks" such as Jar-Jar Binks, and too little to say to put up with the original SW trilogy. The only story point it makes is the early years of Anakin "Darth Vader" Skywalker (pointing out that he was not all that "twisted and evil" to begin with), and even with that, it really doesn't add enough to the original Trilogy to justify its publication. A pity that Lucas would even put this one in production. It really doesn't do credit to the original Trilogy, even with its improved special FX.
Time Under Fire (1997)
Basically, it goes down as a (non-intentional) B-movie parody.
Saw this one as a rental film, and I just have to say it's about the worst beyond-even-b scifi film I've ever seen... The whole submarine/time portal plot is just so unrealistic and the "poor man's Emperor Palpatine" as The Ultimate Evil so ridicilous this thing goes down more as a b-scifi parody than anything else... If you think of renting/buying the pitiful movie, I suggest you forget it and go for Spaceballs (or something like that) instead.
Xena: Warrior Princess (1995)
A great "b"(?) fantasy "parody"(?)
It's a bit difficult to classify this series -is it really a B-fantasy, or a parody of a B-fantasy? However, I personally enjoyed watching Lucy Lawless beat the bad guys... And it does add on some interesting elements about maternity, friendship and trust after "Gabrielle's Hope". All in all, a great pastime. (not least for the leather-clad Lucy ;-d )
Quick Change (1990)
How wrong can a bank robbery go?
A great picture about a gang of bank robbers trying to get to the air port with their loot... But even more than that, a hilarious description of the most annoying facets of big city life. (The pedantic bus driver, for example, is a real killer!)
A masterpiece of wry humor.
Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back (1980)
The most tragic part of the SW trilogy
This one sees the Rebel Alliance at its darkest hour, having Han Solo captured and the Rebel base on Hoth destroyed... Meanwhile, young Luke learns about the ways of the Force. Though much of the film is set on the Dagobah system, it also has some of the most emotional scenes of the Trilogy, including Han Solo's capture... And Luke's desperate encounter with Vader. The end scene, again, is the pinnacle of emotion.
Star Wars (1977)
A Science Fiction legend
Basically, a classic fairy-tale with its young knight (Luke Skywalker), wise wizard (Obi-van Kenobi) and beautiful princess in distress (Princess Leia), and one of the most memorable Sci-Fi movie bad guys (Darth Vader), this one has definitely earned its place among the brightest stars of space operas. Its grand finale still brings tears to my eyes.
