Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (2021)
One of the best
Marvel Origins story are amazing but this one breaks the line. The writing, the humor, the comedy everything is perfect here. The directors made all the best choices which made the movie incredible.
Raya and the Last Dragon (2021)
A sense of adventure and keeness to life
This movie looks beautiful and captures the immensity of the South-East Asian plethora of background. The movie is also immensely funny (especially with Awkwafina). Anyone who gave a bad review are obviously not viewing this as a Disney movie.
The movie gives a sense of adventure, distortion and chaos. It gets you feeling the ups and lows. However, there are some logical issues with the movie so that it would work for the plot, but it is still overall a very solid movie. Kids will enjoy this immensely and adults' as well. Plus, how can you hate Tuk Tuk, he's just so cute
Borat Subsequent Moviefilm: Delivery of Prodigious Bribe to American Regime for Make Benefit Once Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan (2020)
A modern masterpiece
This ridiculously outrageous movie-film makes tribute to the first Borat. It is amazing how Borat is allowed to live and breathe in the very fierce 2020 Covid atmosphere. Even through it is quite offensive, we can only laugh at the ridiculous statement people say. I thought that it wouldn't work out but oh my god, it delivered!
Also the character arc is amazing and how the characters changes and the disguises which reminded me of his other films. The father-daughter ending almost made me cry.
This made me laugh outloud for an entire 2 hours
Very-nice!
Nai He BOSS Yao Qu Wo (2019)
Amazing balance
This is a mix between the eastern and western, not innocent like k-dramas but not overly sexual like western movies. It made me laugh out loud many times and the actors really sell the series. I like how each character has their positive traits and negative traits unlike a lot of movies where the main protagonist is just perfect and doesn't have any character traits at all.
Quanzhi Gaoshou (2019)
Greatest journey
This gave me the same feeling as watching SAO, it's all about the friendship, the teamwork and the journey. This series is also impressive in its graphics and filming. I laughed out loud many times, and the tense moments always made me bit my nails. The music is incredible as well.
Til Death Do Us Part (2019)
Shocking
Each episode has a calm and strikeful theme. The 7 deaths are significant and realistic and provokes deep thought. It is really an Asian Black mirror.
The first episode was infuriating however. The person could of easily escaped the death but I did understand that the girl had to die for him to escape the time loop. I like how it explored the Taiwanese folk tale.
I saw a review where he stated that nothing is explained at the end. That is false. It is really clear.
Daan san nam nui 2 (2014)
Captivating yet lacking
Don't go Breaking your Heart II gets a passing grade. It keeps you watching yet it lacks in its content. However, the nose bleeding when the protagonists sees a women is what got me watching, it gives great comedic element. Other than that, there is no great comedic jokes and will probably not make you feel anything.
Shang hai bao lei (2019)
Aesthetic yet horrible
Shanghai Fortress manipulates its characters as merely vehicles to its story. The visuals are well done, but the realism and plausibility of the scenario is what turns off the user. I am saddened that Godfrey Gao's last movie was this. I hope the next big hit will be better.
Kingdom (2019)
Addictive Mix
Kingdom is perfect for viewers who do not like horror. Kingdom offers enough fright for it to be enjoyable yet balances it with storytelling which makes the mixture of this Tv series addictive.
Ying (2018)
Grim yet beautiful
Beautiful shot with amazing graphics, Zhang Yi Mou manages to capture the themes of feminism and valor. Despite containing modern themes, Shadow captures the historical essence of Daoism and Sunzi Art of War. In addition, the title is perfectly chosen. Shadow in Chinese is "Ying" which also refers to the Ying and Yang which is often referenced in the movie
Sarangeui bulsachak (2019)
An emotional rollercoaster
Crash Landing on you places its viewers in an emotional roller coaster and makes its viewers feel vivid emotions to bliss, anger and sadness. It adds its underlying political aspect as well, by promoting the union of the two Koreas just like the union of the main protagonists.
Bi an Zhi Jia (2020)
Similar yet different
The Ghost Bride follows a very traditional and holistic kind of dramaturgy that leads its viewers into the deep jungle of cultural tradition. However, it follows a very similar path to Hollywood and does not add any difference in style & storytelling. In its merit, The Ghost Bride is a great show to watch is you are looking forward to improve your mandarin.
