She-Hulk: Attorney at Law (2022)
The worst of all the Marvel shows but still worth watching if you're a fan of the MCU
I have to admit I'm a huge fan of Marvel so I always look forward to everything they do and so She-Hulk: Attorney at Law was no different. It's definitely the worst of all the Marvel shows (well at least this or Echo) but that doesn't mean I didn't enjoy it. It's different from the other Marvel shows and movies as this is a comedy but that doesn't make it bad, just different. Even though it's my least favorite but that's only because I love all the other shows so much. I don't understand some of these negative reviews. What did you expect and not get? Did you not watch the trailers or read the reviews? You knew it was a comedy going in. Tatiana Maslany does a great job as She-Hulk and Jennifer Walters. It wouldn't be the same with another actress. I also loved all the cameos from Hulk, Daredevil, Wong, Abomination, etc. Don't let the negative reviews deter you from watching this, if you're a Marvel fan then watch this.
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier (2021)
Entertaining
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier is a must watch for any marvel fan and a great addition to the MCU. While it's not quite as good as Loki or WandaVision it's still a really good show. It's an action packed thriller from start to finish. This show will grab you and pull you into their world from the very first episode and not let go. You'll have so much fun watching this show that you'll have binged the entire season before you know it. Every episode is incredibly written. It had such high expectations and not only met those expectations but surpassed them. There's really nothing else I can say about this show that hasn't already been said.
Superman & Lois (2021)
Superman (and Batman) has been my favorite superhero since childhood and I like this
Superman and Lois is the best DC CW show outside of Arrow. Tyler Hoechlin is so much better than I expected as Superman and Clark Kent. I hope he continues to play this character for years. They probably could've cast a better Lois though, Elizabeth Tulloch is just not a good Lois Lane and looks much older than her age for some reason. This is a Superman show unlike any that's ever been made, it focuses a lot more on his family and his personal life than we've ever seen. I didn't think I would like that part of the show as much but I do, they make it very interesting and of course all the scenes with him as Superman are amazing. It has a cinematic feel to it. I definitely recommend this show to any superhero fan.
Peaky Blinders (2013)
Amazing
Peaky Blinders is without a doubt one of my favorite tv shows of all-time. I wanted to watch this after seeing the trailers and then I heard so many people talking about how great this show was, literally everyone I know who saw it loved it so it raised my expectations even more. When a show is as loved as this one is it rarely lives up to the expectations. Well, Peaky Blinders not only met those expectations but surpassed them in every way possible. The acting and writing is what makes this show so special but the attention to detail they put into every aspect of this show is amazing. This series will hook you from the very first episode and hold on throughout the entire series. It just takes you into their world for you to enjoy. I can not recommend this show enough.
Luke Cage (2016)
Bring Luke Cage Back
As a huge fan of Marvel I'm a little biased because I pretty much like everything they put out. My bias aside, Luke Cage is terrific. If you don't believe me just read through the reviews here and look at the ratings. Even the critics loved this show. It's about a fugitive who gets super strength after an experiment goes wrong. He moves back home to Harlem to try to rebuild his life and make his home a safe place from all the terrible people try to take over. Now that it's on Disney plus maybe they can bring him back. They've already started to bring back others and recently renewed Daredevil so there's still hope. Even if they don't bring him back for his own show again, at least bring him back into the MCU through another show like the Daredevil revival. If you're a Marvel fan then this is a must watch.
Succession (2018)
Lives up to all the hype
Going into this I thought there was no way Succession could ever live up to all the hype surrounding it but then I watched it. It not only lives up to it but surpasses it in every way. This really is one of the best shows of all-time. I heard such great things about it and saw all the awards it's won but still put it off until recently. I can't believe how much I was missing out on, I binged the entire series within a week. I have to admit that you have to give it a few episodes before you really get into it because it starts off pretty slow but before you know it you'll be addicted. I can't say enough about this cast either, the entire cast is unbelievable, not a single bad actor on the entire show. Every actor/actress on the show have been nominated for their performances in this, thats unheard of for a show. Here's the list of all the actors/actresses that have been nominated and or won an Emmy for their performance: Kieran Culkin, Jeremy Strong, Brian Cox, Sarah Snook, Matthew Macfayden, Nicholas Braun, Alan Ruck, Alexander Skarsgård, James Cromwell, J. Smith-Cameron, Adrien Brody, Hope Davis, Sanaa Lathan, Cherry Jones, Harriet Walter, Hiam Abbass & Arian Moayed. That's ridiculous and unheard for any show. That's how good this show is, 17 different actors were nominated for an Emmy, almost all of them multiple times and in every season the show was on. Succession absolutely deserves all the awards it's won and more.
The Last of Us (2023)
This show isn't for everyone
I had to change my rating score after giving this show some more thought. Even though my brother and I both really enjoyed this, I've come to realize that maybe this show isn't for everyone therefore I lowered my score. If I thought everyone would like this the way we did then I would've left my rating at a 9 but I think a 7 is more accurate after seeing some mixed reviews. The following is my initial review for me personally and anyone else who like these type of shows...The Last of Us definitely lives up to all the hype around it. Considering there are a thousand zombie/post apocalyptic shows to choose from, one would have to be really good and stick out from the rest to put in the time to watch. Well, The Last of Us is definitely that show. It's not only good, but one of the best zombie/ post apocalyptic shows to some out in the last few years. It seems that most agree based off all the terrific reviews from both critics and the audience alike. It's also been nominated for just about every award possible. The show itself was just nominated for a bunch of Emmy's including best drama, Pedro Pascal was nominated for best lead actor, Bella Ramsey for best lead actress, Nick Offerman, Murray Barnett and Lamar Johnson for best guest actor, Melanie Lynskey, Anna Torv and Storm Reid for best guest actress, best ensemble cast, best directing, best writing, etc. So, as you can see it's a great show. HBO has had so many great shows over the years, too many to even name, and it looks like The Last of Us is the next great one. Can't wait to see where this show goes next.
Foundation (2021)
One of the best sci-fi series I've ever seen
Foundation is definitely a must watch for any sci-fi fan. I never read the source material and it seems that most of the people who don't like this are mad because it's not exactly like the book. Some people don't understand that these shows and movies are adapted or based off the source material. Some parts are a little slow and throws the pace off a little as it builds its world but not slow enough where it makes it bad. The visuals are as good as anything you'll find on tv. You can tell they put a lot of money into it and it shows. This also has some great characters that will make you invested in the show and actually care about what happens to them. While it's not the best sci-fi you'll ever see, it's definitely worth watching.
3 Body Problem (2024)
Next season can't come fast enough
I've been looking forward to 3 Body Problem for what feels like a decade. I just binged the entire first season in two days and it's everything I hoped it would be and more. This series is adapted from the best selling novels of the same name. It's a show that will pull you into their world and not let go. There are so many mysteries that will keep your mind going the entire time. You can tell they put a lot of money into this show too because the visuals are absolutely beautiful. The only thing that could've been better was character development. I stole this quote from a review I read but I couldn't agree more, "3 Body Problem sets a new standard for what sci-fi is capable of." I'm already looking forward to next season. It can't come fast enough.
The Penguin (2024)
Wow...this was terrific!
Wow. The Penguin is just terrific. Everyone knows what a great actor Colin Farrell is but he's unrecognizable here as The Penguin. I wouldn't be surprised to see him nominated for some awards for his role in this. The biggest surprise was Cristin Milioti as Sofia Falcone. I wasn't too sure when I heard she was named actress for this role, she's a good actress but didn't think this role was for her. I was wrong. She's as good as Farrell is in this and makes you believe Sofia Falcone is a true rival to The Penguin. I also wouldn't be surprised to see how nominated for some awards for her role in this. This isn't your typical DC or Marvel show, it's a full on gangster series. This series takes place in the underworld of a now semi destroyed Gotham City and is a great follow up to Matt Reeves' The Batman. This is how you do it DC.
Billy the Kid (2022)
Solid series on Billy the Kid
I just finished Season 2 of Billy the Kid and was entertained throughout the entire series so far. This series takes a few episodes to really get going but once it did I binged right through it. So if you didn't enjoy the first couple episodes just stay with...it's worth it. I'm glad MGM+ renewed this because there is so much to Billy the Kid that one season wasn't enough. They could even go several more seasons with all the material on him that's out there. The actor who plays Billy is Tom Blyth and he gives one of the best Billy the Kid performances I've ever seen. Blyth also just starred in The Hunger Games prequel and has a very bright future in Hollywood. I have to admit that I'm a big fan of westerns so I'd probably enjoy this no matter what but it really is a solid show that I think most people will enjoy.
The Acolyte (2024)
Did not meet expectations
Even though the reviews for The Acolyte have been mostly mixed I was still really looking forward to this ever since I first heard about it because I'm a Star Wars fan. Then I saw the trailers and my excitement grew even more but I have to say after watching the first few episodes of this season I have to agree with most and say that this is mostly forgettable. Even though I know better I'll probably still give it a few more episodes to see if it gets better. If you're a Star Wars fan like myself then you should probably give this a try to see for yourself but don't go into it having high expectations because it won't live up to it.
Industry (2020)
Addicting
I'm currently watching Industry with my brother as I write this review and the first thing that comes to mind when watching this show is...addicting. HBO is known for having great shows and Industry is no different. It really is a good show that feels fresh and thrilling. It shows the cutthroat world that is banking. It's a fascinating look inside their world of greed, sex, drugs, back stabbing and every other bad thing these people do to each other. You don't have to know much about this world to enjoy the show, I think most people watching don't and that's a testament to how good the writing is. You really do get pulled into that world and can't wait to see what happens next. I'm fully invested in this show and I think you will be to if you give it a chance.
Fight Night: The Million Dollar Heist (2024)
All-star cast all bring their best here
Fight Night is a true story about a huge armed robbery at a star studded after party following Muhammad Ali beating Jerry Quarry in a boxing match that was Ali's first match after the whole draft dodging incident. It has All-Star cast who are all at the top of their game here and all given enough screen time to shine. The show currently has a well deserved 95% on Rotten Tomatoes. The entire cast is great but I have to point out two performances specifically. Samuel L. Jackson has had so many great and memorable roles over his hall of fame career and this is one of his better ones. He is fantastic in every scene. The other is Kevin Hart. Hart usually plays the same funny character in most of his movies but he brings a total different performance here and absolutely kills it. Then there's Don Cheadle, Terrence Howard and Tarija P. Henson who are all as good as ever.
Hacks (2021)
As funny as everyone says it is
There's a reason Hacks has been nominated for so many awards since it debuted a few years ago, because it's laugh out loud funny. Jean Smart and Hannah Einbinder deserve every bit the love they've been getting since this came out. Smart especially has had a lot of good roles over her career but this is easily the best performance of her career. Smart and Einbinder take two very unlikable characters and not only make you laugh but will make you root for them. This show works best when these two are together on screen. Every episode is perfectly paced and shows how these characters continue to evolve. As soon as you finish an episode you immediately want to watch the next and that's the best thing you can hope for out of a good tv show.
Justified: City Primeval (2023)
Great to see Raylan again
Considering Justified is one of my favorite shows ever I've really been looking forward to Justified: City Primeval ever since I first heard about it. Then when I saw the trailers my expectations grew even more. Well, it's finally here and I can say without hesitation that this series not only met those expectations but surpassed them in every way. Timothy Olyphant returns as Raylan Givens. If there's ever been an actor perfect for a role it's Olyphant as Givens. This role was made for him. This series brings everything you loved about the original but also with a fresh take. I really can't recommend this show enough. Whether you're a fan of the original Justified or not, this is a must watch.
Hotel Cocaine (2024)
I liked it
Hotel Cocaine has everything you want in a good crime thriller about drug cartels. It has plenty of action, drama, twists, etc. This more than held my attention as I binged watched all 8 episodes over a weekend with my brother. Like others have already said, this isn't as good as Narcos, Queen of the South or some of the other great cartel shows out there but it's still pretty good. My only complaints are the production and editing could be a little better and Michael Chiklis is just flat out awful here. I'm a fan of Chiklis ever since he starred in The Shield but I don't know who this was because it was some of the worst acting I've seen this year. I thought this was going to be a one season show and that's it, but with that cliffhanger at the end it looks like we'll be getting another season which I'm looking forward to.
Interview with the Vampire (2022)
Better Than Expected
Interview with the Vampire was actually even better than I was expecting. It's based on Anne Rice's popular novel about a family of vampires through the years. This is made with mostly unknown actors who all do a great job in their roles. There was also a popular movie about this made in 1994 with Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt and Kirsten Dunst. Obviously most people will compare the two and even though I liked the movie a little more this more than holds up and stands in its own. I never read the books but I've read that this show is a lot closer to it than the movie was. You can tell they try to respect the source material as much as possible and even had Anne Rice help create the show and have her on as an executive producer before her death last year. After reading through the reviews I'm glad that most people seem to agree with me that this is a good show.
Bad Monkey (2024)
Really Enjoyed This
Bad Monkey feels like a classic Vince Vaughn film when he was in his prime. He shines here as the lead of another great Apple TV show. Is it the best show you'll watch this year? No. But it still very good and worth your time to watch. If you like Vaughn then you'll like this and vice versa if you don't like him. He does his classic fast talking, tongue in cheek comedy that he's famous for. This show is based off Carl Hiaasen's best seller. It almost feels it was written for Vaughn, that's how good he is here. The show is also beautifully shot, making the most of the sun filled settings in the Bahamas and Florida. Besides the comedy and action there are plenty of twists and turns to hold your attention.
The Umbrella Academy (2019)
I enjoyed the first few seasons but this last one was a mess
I have absolutely loved The Umbrella Academy ever since the very first episode. I even enjoyed this last season (s3) a lot more than most. It's unlike any other superhero type show there is. It's just such an original and unique show. It has everything you want in a good show...action, drama, comedy, suspense, twists, etc. It will keep you on the edge of your seat throughout the series! Every character is so well written, they all have superhero powers but also real life problems that they all have to deal with both individually and as a family. It's too bad that this last season (s4) was so bad. I liked the first 3 seasons so much and was looking forward to this ending and what we got was extremely disappointing. The entire season was a mess, especially the ending.
Gen V (2023)
Nice addition to The Boys universe
Gen V is every bit as good as I hoped it would be. This is a spin-off of the incredible series The Boys and much like that series this is a show for adults. Gen V tells the story of a premier college for superheroes called Godolkin University. The students there are looking to join the elite superhero teams across America. We get to see these young supes as they learn to become both superheroes and adults. Obviously, not everyone there is a good guy, there are also villains and this show turns very bloody very quickly. There are also plenty of cameos from the The Boys that pop up in this too. I'm so glad that they are expanding this universe and hope they do even more spin-offs. If you like The Boys I promise that you'll like this too.
Watchmen (2019)
I thought it was great
My brother and I finally got around to watching Watchmen and it really is every bit as good as the reviews say it is. It addresses several tough topics and does so in such a gripping way that you can't stop watching. It also stays true to the original source material as good as any show based off a comic has. It's just a dark, gritty superhero show. The writing and acting are what makes this show so special. There's a reason this show won so many awards and that's because it deserved it. The only negative thing about this show is that it was only a limited series because this is a show that could've been great for several seasons.
Vikings: Valhalla (2022)
Not as good as the original but still good
When I first heard about Vikings: Valhalla I couldn't wait to see it. I knew it was going to be hard to live up to the original but this not not only met my expectations but surpassed them in every way. Of course it wasn't as good as the original, I wasn't expecting it to but it's still a very good show that can stand on its own. I actually liked it so much that I binged the first two seasons again before watching this last and final season. Season 3 just came out and I did the same thing...I binged it as fast as possible. Even though most of the reviews are positive there are some that didn't like it as much as others and I'm really not sure why. If you liked the original then there's no reason why you shouldn't like this one too. I hope they do another spin-off because the more Vikings the better!
The Book of Boba Fett (2021)
It's worth a watch
I recently finished The Book of Boba Fett and it was actually better than I thought it would be. It follows bounty hunter Boba Fett (Temuera Morrison) and mercenary Fennec Shand (Ming-Na Wen) as they run the underworld of Jabba the Hutts old territory on the sands of Tatooine. It's not the greatest Star Wars series made, especially after watching how good The Mandalorian and Andor were, but it's still worth a watch. Like those shows it has a big budget movie feel to it. It just looks and feels bigger than a tv show. There were some throw away episodes that were kind of boring but still enough good where I would recommend it to any Stars Wars fan. Just don't expect it to be as good as The Mandalorian or Andor.
Good Omens (2019)
Entertaining
Good Omens is a series based off the book of the same name by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett. While I never read the book so I can't compare, I also had no expectations going into it. Having just finished the second season now I can say it was very entertaining. So much so I binged both seasons (only 12 total episodes) over the weekend. The thing that stands out the most is pretty much what every review here has already mentioned and that's the amazing work of its two stars, Michael Sheen and David Tennant. They are what make this series so watchable, any other actors and this wouldn't have worked so well. Season 3 can't come fast enough.
