She (2020)
Don't watch even when under Lockdown.
5/10 just for the effort. The series tries to do something but sub-par acting, uninterested cast, plenty plotholes and an unconvincing storyline doesn't really let the show take off . In the words of nayak, "koshish karta hu" is what the series did at best, but fails miserably. However liked and enjoyed Sasyas performance as much as I hated the clueless cop character, Fernandez who keeps losing track of his undercover agent. The lead, Bhumi tries to fit in this character but as expected doesn't really hold the interest of the viewers even though in quite a few scenes she delivers a good performance but thats not quite enough to save this series. Watch this series just to enjoy the character of Sasya, that too if you are completely bored in this phase of self-isolation and have nothing better to do. Otherwise a definite skip.
Special OPS (2020)
Stays strong till the very end
This series is one of the few exceptions where they almost deliver till the very end what they promise, which is not much but still they manage to keep the interest of the audience with a not so complicated plot and doesn't disappoint the viewers.
Most of the time a series by the time it wraps up, like in the case of "Bard of Blood" or "Family man", screw up the climax and does not tend to deliver much as they initially promised and proves to be a letdown, now be it the rushed up climax or various plot holes by the time the series nears it's end.
To be honest the plot here is very simple, but sometimes feels a bit drag, well its supposed to be I guess when it deals with a manhunt lasting almost 19 years. But as I said simple premises, engaging throughout is much better than offering too much from the get go and disappointing everyone by the end. Honest and lovable performances by most of the main cast, always love to see Mr Vinay Pathak on screen. I hope he sees this review.
A well crafted series by Mr Neeraj Pandey, the mastermind behind A Wednesday.
Would have loved to see Balas girlfriend one last time on screen before the show winded up, however this differs from perception to perception but one of the main plotholes or rather unexplained segment remains the need of the crazy pakistani guy who shoots kk and is roaming the streets of Delhi, after all he might be just another usual hired gun, but it was unexplained and left the audience wondering why was he given such importance throughout.
An enjoyable watch for people who love to watch spy-espionage thrillers, just go watch without too much expectations and I promise you won't be letdown and meanwhile enjoy the simple acting of the cast.
Asur: Welcome to Your Dark Side (2020)
Decent engaging thriller
First of all let me begin by saying that I'm not one for writing reviews, but this show had my hopes and interests up and somehow disappointed me in the last episode by showing certain foolishness in some scenes and that really took a toll on me and here I am writing this review.
When you compare this series with other Indian series of the same genre no doubt it really stands out. The acting and direction is also pretty good. I've always appreciated the talent of Arshad Warsi. Other actors also have done a good job.
Since most of the reviews on IMDb for this show gave a rating of 10, I don't want to further discuss the good things about the show but I just want to focus on certain scenes that bothered me a lot.
For instance Nikhil Nair choosing the life of 3 strangers in the last scene over his own daughter didn't make sense to me, especially when he helped the killer murder two innocent people and almost Arshad Warsi to save the lives of his daughter and wife.
Then the most disturbing thing was how easily the killer was brought in the vicinity of Arshad Warsi in the central jail, and where Arshad is like a sitting duck anticipating the killers arrival.
Again the way the killer kidnapped Nikhil is really interesting but unnecessary since he could've easily done that without putting this much effort and this just makes me wonder what is going on and adding to that the arrival of niks wife and child to the city from America when a serial killer is on loose just shows how absent minded he is as a father and husband.
Then I wonder what Nikhil is doing once he escapes the clutches of the kidnapper and asks for a lift but doesn't ask for a mobile or inform the police about his whereabouts, he does this only later after getting down from the vehicle, all the while leaving the driver who gave him the lift perplexed and asking himself who the hell he is and what is he doing. Moreover if he had informed the police then and there itself, the other policeman wouldn't have died in the same place later on in the episode.
But the most stupid thing to be shown was Arshad thrown in jail with no trial no jury without proper hearing and just on the basis of circumstancial evidence and to top it off, starting next episode the killer is again on a killing spree whereas Arshad is still sitting in Jail for the rest of the series and investigating the series from there. Again what is going on here?
But yeah the series had its moments as well, it was a nice enjoyable watch if you just let few of the instances slide owing to shoddy screenplay and writing. I hope the show makers take note of this review and try to understand where they went wrong and come back with a much more powerful season 2.
