Jujutsu Kaisen (2020– )

Extremely overrated
28 April 2024
Everybody is talking about this as the next big thing in anime world but I dont get why.

The characters are boring and uninteresting. Plus this mimics a lot of Naruto. The mysterious dark haired boy resembles Sasuke, the girl has the temperament of Sakura, and the main character is a goofy fun guy like Naruto and they both have creatures inside them who provides powers. And obviously Gojo is a more op version of Kakashi.

There would be nothing wrong with that if only the plot and the story were interesting and well written but this just focuses on various fights and action scenes, that are fun to watch but without the adequate plot get boring pretty fast.

Basically had to force myself to watch the first two seasons so I guess its enough for me. I dont really get the ratings.

Biggest overrated series ever
29 October 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Altough the knowlegde that I had about this show's story previous to watching it never really interested me that much, I had to give a try myself because its the highest rated series ever.

I was really disappointed when I found out that I had been correct all this time.

The pace is very slow and its filled with a lot of scenes that take too long or dont add much to the main plot. This gave me a lot of boredom sometimes.

There are tons of illogical decisions made by the main characters and the plot has so many holes that I could write an entire review just about that. For instance, the way that Hank found about Walt's endeavours is simply laughable, this criminal mastermind that is always one step ahead of everyone just left an incriminating evidence on his bathroom.

I couldn't get attached to any of the characters especially not Walt, who really started to annoy me as the series kept on progressing and he started to take a serie of stupid decisions that lead to the ending.

I might understand that when this came out this was groundbreaking or incredible, but as today standards this is just meddium.

Wrongly advertised
28 May 2023
Warning: Spoilers
So I picked this because i Thought it would be like the Viking series, with a lot of blood, carnage etc... and indeed it was but only during the first season that was just a prologue...

Second season starts by time passing up and Thorfinn is a slave now and I discovered that he will not go back to his former glory ever again.

So, I will not discredit the show or who may like, but its is very wrongly advertised especially after you read the synopsis and watch the first season. The first season is a 8/10 for me. So in the second one I was hoping to watch Thorfinn caracter development and the end of his obsession with vegeance but without becoming a pacifist, but unfortunately thats what happens.

The shift in the main caracter personality was also too sudden, if we saw him growing up that way instead of just skipping the time it would've been better.

If i knew that this would turnout about a viking hippie focused on peace and love I wouldn't picked this up.

Hitchcock's masterpiece
22 April 2023
This is one of a very rare kind of movies that deserves all the hype surrounding it.

Due to the brilliant direction from Hitchcock this didn't even felt like a 60's movie, this could be brand new!

Anthony Perkins was just phenomenal, I normally dont think about how good an actor is while watching, but in this case I thought about that several times, so cant help but to bow to this performance!

The script is very well written and solid. The thriller is everywhere, from the beggining with scenes that dont really have much impact to the main plot, to the end where my heart was racing, and I was anxious trying to figure out how would this going to end.

There's really nothing more that you can ask for. Its a 10/10 in all points.

The Devil's Hour (2022– )

Wrongly Advertised
21 February 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Not a bad series by any means but this is wrongly advertised. It is cataloged as a thriller and drama so one would naturally expect this to be logical.

The series always hints at the sobrenatural but I was hoping that in the end this would have an amazing and perfectly logical explanation. How disappointed I was to hear that this was all connected with reincarnations and other things that are not scientific.

I have no problem with sci-fi, it is in fact one of my favorite genres, but when I choose some sci-fi content I expect some sci-fi explanations. Now when I choose a thriller I dont expect it to have a sci-fi ending if is not advertised as such.

One can argue that if it was cataloged as sci-fi the ending would have been pretty predictable since it always hints at the sobrenatural, but that argument can also work to show the weakness of the script. The ending is only "shocking" because they withdrew information. If this was correctly advertised there would be no surprises.

That being said, despite having only 6 episodes, is still too long for the story. They repetead the same things/scenes over and over to extend this a little bit.

Not a bad series, just dont lie to me.

Not a terror movie
27 June 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Since I enjoyed Hereditary from this same director I decided to give this a chance.

The movie started really great with a first part that let us intrigued and that oppened a lot of doors for the rest of the movie. The problem is that the rest simply didn't match expectations. The cinematography and acting was great but these were the only positive points. The movie wasn't even a terror movie, not scary at all and pratically ignored the points of the first part like the death of her family that could've made this pretty dark. Instead it was focused on the cult that, beside the nice visuals, every single thing that happened was predictable and obvious, even at the last scene I know she would smile before she did so when I said I predicted everything I'm not even exaggerating.

Like his previous movie there's a lot of symbolism and implicit things that gives space to some interpretation, the downs were the lack of terror and huge predictability. It's a weird movie about a weird cult. Not a typical terror movie by any means. Despite all of this, can't say that it is a bad movie, it's just wrongly advertised and it ain't for everyone, me included.

Blade Runner (1982)
3/10
Overrated and Boring
19 June 2022
Heading to the new Blade Runner movie I finally decided to watch the first movie. What a massive disappointment it was. This movie is all looks and zero substance, there is no script, no character development nor interest in the characters, just dark scenes, lots of rain and some boring and dull action scenes.

The pace is extremely slow and the story is so simple that the movie could've been much shorter, it is only this big because all they wanted to do was to show you this world that they created, and thats the main problem with this movie, more focused on visuals than substance, they created the story to go along with the world but should've been the other way around.

The only reason I rate it 3/10 its due the production and visual impact that this movie had, because otherwise this would be a straight 1/10.

Started great, but lost me
5 January 2022
First season got me completely hooked from the beginning to the end. Then 2nd came and it was a filler season, pretty much nothing happened and the series got more philosophical and boring and I kinda had to force myself to complete it. By the beginning of the 3rd season I had completely lost interest in these characters and in their faiths, and I also found myself tired of the characters problems. I really tried but it's enough for me. They promissed us a great hacker series but this ended to be more like V for Vendetta, more focused on the anti hero and political with not so much hacking. Although the concept works fine in movies in a series its a stretch and eventually just became boring.

I still have to make an honorable mention to Sam Esmail's direction, amazing cinematography!

Visual poetry
21 November 2021
I just finished watching this masterpiece and I can't find the words to describe how I'm feeling. The cinematography is excellent and the way the story is told is really poetic. I was completely stuck throughout the whole movie into the narrative and kept wondering how was this going to end. The story goes back and fort, full of twists and surprises. Probably one of the best romance movies I've ever seen.

Ignore the hateful comments and evaluate for yourself. When a movie is as deep and poetic like this you either love it or hate it, so don't let the bad commented deceive you from watching this.

To me this is 10/10.

Remarkably made
31 July 2021
Warning: Spoilers
So the whole movie it's the main character telling the story of his life to Sofie.

We know that everything until the moment Sofie finds him in bed with Simi is truth because she is the one he's telling the story too so he couldn't just make that up. So we now for sure that: he was faking to be blind, he and Sofie had a thing, Sofie found him and Simi together.

At this point is important to keep in mind that he probably would like to tell Sofie a story that would make her empathize with him and justify the fact that now he really is blind and also justify his disappearance.

The discussion here is about the ending he tells Sofie. If he was blind at the time there was no way he could've known about the rabbit because he couldn't see. So here is where the main hole is because this could represent that he lied about a lot of things to make a more interesting story or he only lied about the end because the real one wouldn't be nice to tell.

What I think that really happened is that he took the doctor deal and took Simi eyes and liver and splat the money with the doctor. We know that he is not blind anymore because of the ending scene where he was aware of the can on the floor. How did he fixed his eyes? Where did he get the money to went to Europe? He said that a friend helped him but in a prior scene he said to Mavashi that he didn't had any friends or family when she asked if he wanted to call anyone. So how does a blind guy, injured, alone in a road, ends up in Europe with his eyes fixed again? He took that money and changed the end to make him look better.

It's important to remember that the movie opens with the phrase "What is life? It depends on liver" that later is told by the doctor in the climax of the movie. This phrase has two meanings because it could be refereed to a person who lives or with a body organ.

The fun part is that this is just my analysis, everyone can have different views and conclusions because the director allows that space to speculate and discuss.

Simply brilliant and one of the best Bollywood movies ever made.

Wrong message? I don't think so
30 January 2021
Warning: Spoilers
First of all I might say that production and acting wise this movie is impeccable. The controversy here seems to be about the message that the movie sends.

I don't think that this sends an evil message that the poor must kill the rich in order to succeed, no, we must not forget that this is simply a movie and that is also based on a best selling book. About Balram actions, we see him being bullied and despised throughout the entire movie, we see that his family only cared about his money and marriage and not really about his feelings or desires. The trap of poverty is what we see in India, everyone is unable to create wealth because the people surrounding are all poor. Even if you are lucky enough to get a good job like Balram did, they controlled him by forcing him to take the blame for the murder and menacing his family life if he stole, and then after years of work you get two options: either you save enough to buy a home or you become homeless.

I understand that the master that he killed was the most decent one to him but I dare to say that was impossible for Balram to become rich without killing his master, and you must look at things from his perspective as well. First, at the end he was stealing from him with false invoices and got a significantly good amount of money given by Pinky but even in that situation he hadn't got enough to simply quit and start is own business. Second, he was going to get replaced and after that we can assume that we was going to get a more precarious job and start to afford less, and we all saw how he lived precariously working for rich people. Third, his family only wanted his money and to marry him and weren't able to help monetarily. Fourth, we clearly see the effect of that lifestyle on Balram, towards the end of the movie he is starting to loose his mind after going through all that and obviously that influenced his decision to kill. So taking this in consideration his only way to escape the cicle was by killing his master, steal the millions from him, change his name and appearance and start his business.

For the people complaining about the confession letter that they had of him and about the fact that the master's family didn't go after him, he explains in the movie that the only reason that he didn't got caught was because his appearance could be of a lot of average Indian men and he also changed his name so if they were looking for a Balram they wouldn't find him. He also states that he can be caught one day but it would have been still worth it to see how it is to not be poor.

Now the fun part is that at the end, after breaking his cycle of poverty he becomes just like the people that did him wrong. The only reason why his business succeeded was because he bribed the police and acquired some control over them, also becoming a corrupt himself. The good part is that he treated his employees respectfully and took blame for their actions, unlike his former masters.

Now you guys can interpret that the message of this movie is in order to be rich you must kill, but I see a much deeper meaning than that. The system is corrupt, the politics were bribed on a daily basis, the rich treated poor people like trash controlling their lives and not caring about their problems. Poor people lived on precarious conditions lacking health cares and decent living conditions. The message is that this oppressive system creates people like Balram, that tired of being treated wrong and knowing that the future didn't had nothing great for him, did the only thing that in his thinking was his choice. We don't need to educate people to not kill their bosses in order to become rich, everybody knows that murder is not the correct way. What we need is to change the system in order to make people not even consider that possibility, by creating conditions that allows everyone to live a decent life despite everything else. Balram is a product of the system, the big message is: we must change the system!

One of the best movies of 2020?
20 August 2020
Warning: Spoilers
After watching this I have no ideia how is this rated only 5,9. Technically speaking this is well shot and directed, Jeff Baena was outstanding!

Story wise this is also amazing. The movie starts with a slow pace but once you pass that part is a mental and emotional roller coaster.

Alison Brie has a remarkable performance and she also wrote the story so she really does deserve recognition for that!

It's a perfectly made ambiguous movie which can lead to interesting debates. There are two paths and two endings, you chose which one you believe the most or which one you simply prefer. One is a beautiful trip into the mind of a mental ill girl, the other is about the paranormal, time loops and alien abductions. This is a drama but this can also be a sci-fi movie, two in one.

What a pleasant surprise this was!

Remarkable
19 June 2020
Amazing visuals, amazing fiction, amazing storytelling and amazing directing. One of the things that I absolutely love about LOTR is that this shows that is possible to make huge movies without them getting bored. There are a lot of 3 hour long movies which the story could easily be summoned in 1h30 the rest is just boring and slow pacing in a desperate attempt of presenting beautiful visuals, now LOTR teaches that you could do a 3 hour long movie with beautiful visuals without people getting boring, you just need to have enough content do to that. Everyone should watch this trilogy at least once in their lives! Highly recommend it!

Tarantino at his best
24 April 2020
If you didn't liked this movie and yet you call yourself a Tarantino fan something is wrong with you because this movie sums up his entire style: outstanding writing with great storytelling, social critics and dialogues that make you think, great direction skills with beautiful plans and angles, and of course the classic Tarantino violent side.

Not everyone has the ability of making an entire movie in just one place and still have you glued on the screen the entire time, this one really shows how an exceptional writer he is. Today I rewatched it and I noticed the mention to Red Apple Tobacco that is also mentioned in his latest movie, just showing how much effort he puts in his writing and that he wants to connect his movies by some way.

If it bothers you the cursing, racism and violence in this movie maybe you should just go and watch Disney productions because without all of those aspects this wouldn't have portrayed the reality of that time as faithful as it did. Tarantino is never afraid of portraying reality as it is and that's why I said that this is not for everyone because a lot of people can't deal with reality. And let's not forget that all of those things and the purpose to make various social critics. This movie isn't underrated because it's bad but because of the sensibility of people. Now the last chapter events surely aren't for the weakest ones but it's just classic Tarantino kicking in!

Why is this low rated?
22 April 2020
I first watched this in the year it came out and today I rewatched and I loved it in both times! I really can't understand the reason for the low rating and critics. Interesting background story, great story telling, amazing visuals and special effects, cool action scenes, unpredictable twists and surprises with a beautiful and touching ending, what do you want more? This is probably one of the most underrated sci-fi movies ever but yet one of my favorites!

Philosophical but boring
21 April 2020
I was expecting much more and the movie started in a really interesting way as the soldiers was playing chess against Death itself but after that everything that followed up was pretty much boring. The movie contains of course a lot of interesting philosophies about man's condition and belief in god as the main characters tries to seek answers. What is the meaning of life? Does god exist? What happens after we die? The movie question this all but give no answers, I don't really need a movie to make me question this subjects or think about this. There are some good shots and interesting scenes, and the final scene is pretty good but overall I was expecting much more when I read that synopsis and saw the rating.

The Godfather (1972)

Great movie but overrated
18 April 2020
Watching a 3 hour long movie it's not a easy task unless you really enjoy the story and every single moment of it, but I really had to give this a try to find by myself if it really lives up to his hype. Needless to say, the acting is by far the best thing in this movie especially Marlon Brando in his unforgettable Don Corleone role. The cinematography is very good too and the only critics I have is some flaws in shooting scenes were the gun is fired but the body doesn't get marked and some fighting scenes were they were literally punching the air but I would let that slip because they didn't had much of the technology that we have nowadays. My biggest problem regarding this movie is pacing, like I've said in the beginning it's hard to watch a 3 hour long movie unless everything works perfectly and in this movie there were a lot of scenes way to bigger than the necessary, things that could be summoned in a shorter way and still with good cinematography were too long, and there are some unnecessary shots. The movie also advance years and it could've been done better, in a scene you are in the present and in the next you are some years later without no mention to how many time passed or even that the time passed you only understand that by the action, which if you aren't really concentrated will become confusing and It's hard to see a 3 hour long movie with long boring shots and confusing timeline. The acting is the only top-notch thing here, everything else is just good.

16 April 2020
I had zero expectations watching this, it was on TV and I had some time to spend so I decided to give it try and I couldn't have chosen better. The script is very good and well crafted! Amazing visual humor and decent jokes as well. What I loved the most about this was not the comedy but the murder mystery plot, was brilliantly made with a remarkable ending! Highly recommend this for a good family time!

Decent terror movie
16 April 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Like the most of it's genre this has some non-sense and illogical parts but this one was actually decent when it comes to the terror plot itself. Directing wise the terror scenes were okay but the normal scenes were awful, that camera angles and the fact that the camera was always shaking was really annoying me. I like the fact that they actually moved out when they figured out when they're house was haunted, something that never happens in terror movies and really annoy me and I also liked that there was a terror scene during day time.

So overrated
16 April 2020
My expectations were higher about this movie due the high ratings and to the fact that to a lot people this is one of the best movies ever, but after watching I don't really now why. Before anything else let me clear that I'm not that stupid dude who can't watch nothing before 2000, Citizen Kane is one year older that this and I completely loved it and rated it 10/10 but this movie felt really... average.

To me this is a romance that marked that time due the historical and political context and the subjects that the movie has in it but the story itself is just a lame and boring love story with a extreme level of predictability, it's so predictable that when I read the synopsis I already knew how this was going to end, I hoped that I was wrong but unfortunately I wasn't. Besides the predictability, the plot was boring, the acting was average, there is no character development so you don't get attached to any of them. I know this was a propaganda movie and this actually sell's well the ideia of patriotism and victory against Germany, but the fact that this was for propaganda purposes should say a lot about this, the movie was rushed and the expectations were low but by some miracle everyone came to think that this is a masterpiece. To me this is an american (propaganda) popcorn movie and nothing more then that. It's also one of the most quoted movies but I found a lot of the dialogues to be boring and unnecessary to the story development.

It was well made but it wasn't a cinematography masterpiece if you ask me, in the first minutes we have a scene where a guy gets shot and then there's no blood no bullet wound no nothing he just drops himself awfully on the floor and when the police go to him he has nothing but a little bit of blood in his mouth... now I know it was 1942 but they could've done it better. It's a well made movie but far to be a masterpiece. It

How is this a masterpiece?
14 April 2020
Warning: Spoilers
My expectations were really high since all I ever heard about this movie were good things but now I don't really seem to understand the reason for that. Technically and visually yes Sam Mendes did a great job and this movie is beautiful to watch but like it happened in one of his other movie (1917) the visuals didn't matched the plot.

The plot is really boring if you ask me and I think that people who are saying that this has a great message are just looking to close, even when a movie is about nothing there are always some "smart" ones who claim that it had a deeper meaning like in this case. Everything about this movie is a complete cliche. The facade wedding, the cheating wife, the father that can't connect to his teenage daughter who has also the cliche temperament of a teenager, the weird kid next door who is going to fall in love with the weird teenager who has a father that is the most cliche character in this: a homophobic and rigid Colonel who wants discipline and structure in everything and beats his son. What is the deeper meaning here? This portrays a bunch of cliches and things that are not new to anyone.

The acting was average overall. I don't really know how can anyone say that this was Spacey's best performance, was a good one but to me it looks like he was just kinda being himself in a lot of parts.

A big hole in the plot to me is that we know how they are now but we don't know how they came to this, how did the father lost connection to his daughter if he says that they used to be friends? What did happen to they're marriage? Are you just assuming that every marriage gets like this for no reason or that every adolescent disconnects to they're parents? Because that's not true. The only character that got a background story is the drug dealer kid. Not to mention that the daughter which's father wasn't violente and rigid and his only problem was to have a crush on her friend even said that wanted her father to die, kidding or not you don't say something like that just for saying, but the boy which's father beat him and controlled his life and even shipped him to a military college and interned him said that his father was a good men and didn't wished him wrong, how does this make any sense?

This is a weak, cliched, non-sensed story disguised with beautiful visuals and a good storytelling and that is the truth about this movie, everyone who thinks this is a masterpiece is seeing things where they don't exist!

Citizen Kane (1941)
10/10
A cinematography masterpiece
14 April 2020
Warning: Spoilers
This is one of the few cases when a movie lived to his hype! I was only 3 minutes into this and I was already amazed about how could this movie be from 1941, the cinematography in this was way ahead of it's time. Orson Welles couldn't really have done nothing better when it comes to directing, the scenes were all, and I really mean all perfect! I won't even waste time talking about technical aspects because this is simply flawless! I thought that I'd seen beautiful movies in my life but this one is unmatchable! At the age of 25 he made his debut movie and not only directed but starred and gave us this beautiful piece of art.

When it comes to the story I really liked the storytelling with a summary of everything that happened in Kane's life in the public eye with that beautiful "News on the March" and then the movie proceeds to give us a closer look to who he really was by interviewing people close to him and giving us flashbacks about the past with the purpose to discover what his final word "rosebud" meant. It is though important to mention that the perspectives that the people who were closer to him gave to us are simply that, perspectives which the stories could've been influenced by their relationships.

The meaning of this word arises such a beautiful debate and reflection. The most common and direct understanding is that it refers to his childhood and times of innocence. The times when he was poor and had nothing were also the happiest of his life meaning that wealth can't buy happiness, we can have all the things in the world like Kane had and still feel empty and sad. The second possible meaning has a much more interesting theory and is not so obvious. In the night that Kane met Susan he says that he was going to a warehouse to revisit some memories of his past and at this point is pretty obvious that the main thing that he wanted from there was the sleigh, so that sleight was the cause for him to be in that street that night and therefore meeting Susan. And what happens after he and Susan met? They start to have an affair. His political rival discovers the affair and uses that to expose him and then he loses the election and his wife also discovers and that causes their divorce. After the divorce his ex-wife and son died in a car accident and we only know this by the news on the beginning of the movie but Welles doesn't show us his reaction or anything to that. That changed everything because he was on the path to becoming governor and maybe one day president but now all he have is Susan and builts a million dollar opera house trying to prove that his wife is a special singer and that he made no mistake for being with her. And at the end when she leaves him he says "rosebud" because he remembers that was the pursue of that sleigh that made him go out that night that changed his life forever, the ideia that one single decision can change your entire life. The meaning of rosebud is ambiguous, maybe it meant the only time when Kane was truly happy and that he misses the most or maybe it reminded him of the reason to go out on the night that changed his life forever, or maybe it has another meaning but one thing we can all agree and it is said by that journalist at the end of the movie: "No word can explain a man's life".

For a 1941 movie was not boring at all and this is not coming from a old man, I don't seriously know how can someone find this boring. I really hope that no one attempts to remake this and ruin it because it can't get better than this even if it had colors. It's a movie that not only cinephiles but everyone should see at least one time in their life times!

A remarkable thriller
14 April 2020
This is without the doubt the one of the best thrillers that I've ever seen, the soundtrack and the camera angles especially when they are closing up on a character face really creates tension and the movie keeps you on the edge and intrigued of what's coming next the whole time. The direction is outstanding and really good. The acting is also top-notch especially Anthony Hopkins and Jodie foster, both well deserved Oscars! About the plot itself I consider that the visual experience is better than the plot and I personally figured out what the serial killer was intending to do before it was even revealed, that doesn't make the plot bad but I think the story wasn't as great as the visuals, it was a pretty interesting one but not worthy enough to be portrayed as masterpiece like many are doing. There are a lot of actions and scenes in this movie that set an example and where copied by a lot of recent movies so in a certain why this created a precedent. It's definitely worth to be seen but I was expecting a deep story with great visuals, it got the second aspect but one the first one didn't pleased as much as I was expecting

...because may expectations were low and I thought it will just be an entertaining movie but without nothing to say about, I guess I was wrong. Timothée over exceed my expectations at playing young king Henry and made a remarkable job. There were two things that I completely loved about this movie, the first were the battle scenes, they are probably the most realistic battle scenes in this historic time I've ever seen in a movie, all the other shows battles with armors and horses like the knights and soldiers were ninjas with swords that moved very easily even though the weight of the armor and that controlled the sword and everything on the battlefield with perfection but this movie doesn't do that, this shows what the battles really looked like: a total mess! The other thing that I loved is that they didn't tried to romantize the Henry wedding with the French princess with some love at first sight thing like a lot of movies do about arranged weddings in this period.

The direction was also pretty decent and that final plot twist was good and completely unexpected. Despite all of these good points the movie is historically inaccurate and also inaccurate in comparison with Shakespeare's plays that were the base for this movie. This can be a bad point if you care about history and facts but if you only want to have a good time watching a good movie this won't matter. This is probably one of the best Netflix movies!
