Otherwise good movie ruined by the ending
10 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The cinematography/camerawork are 9/10 (minus one for the CGI animals). It reminded me vaguely of Mr Robot. The movie held the viewer's interest well, I liked the dynamics among the adults and I rooted for them. However the teenagers were just insufferable. Even when they could sense something was wrong, they were obsessed with their own wants rather than the fact that the world may be ending. I didn't care if anything bad happened to them, especially the 90s tv show obsessed 13 year old. So the ending where this brat abandons her family to leave them desperately searching for her while she gorges herself at the neighbor's house and then finds a bunker full of 90s nostalgia pissed me off. I'd rather see a shot of everything being blown up and us knowing nothing of anyone's survival than seeing that little snot be the only one to get a happy ending she didn't deserve.

Fashion fun

I loved this entire movie. Emma Stone is awesome as always, and the costuming is amazing. The soundtrack is great as well, with classic rock and pop songs. Without the dog element, this movie could actually stand alone as a revenge story. I will definitely buy the dvd of this so I can watch it again.

Worst Dance Movie
15 August 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I expect dance movies to be cheesy and somewhat predictable, but usually they are redeemable with great dancing and likable characters. I knew that a technicality would get them into the competition before it happened. The dancing isn't exciting or special, and whoever was in charge of costume failed. High waisted jeans are not exactly dance friendly, that would be sweaty af the male antagonist looked like an 80s drag queen but less fabulous. And the acting is so bland. Nothing good about this movie. I gave 2 stars to be nice.

Best of the Netflix movies
12 July 2020
For a streaming only movie, this was well done. As usual, Charlize Theron carries every movie she's in. The plot is interesting, but imperfect. I like the immortal element, and I liked the relationships between the immortals. The action sequences are great. If Netflix can give those cheesy teen romance movies a sequel, this movie DEFINITELY deserves one.

Excellent

Warning: Spoilers
This is the most interesting mini series I have seen in recent years. I was held In suspense from episode 1, and it becomes more captivating as more and more information comes out, and the tension builds in the family. I liked how they cut to scenes of Andy being questioned in the present as he details everything that happened. Great acting from both Chris Evans and Michelle Dockery. Evans hasn't had many chances to play a serious drama role and he acted the role of an emotionally and physically exhausted parent so well. The ending is not a happy one, but it is so well written that even though we don't know everything, it isn't left feeling unfinished. Favorite show I've seen so far this year.

Adam Sandler gets a 7, movie gets a 2
31 May 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I thought Adam Sandler did a great job playing this very unlikeable character, but that was the only good part of this film. The soundtrack is odd. I get that they were going for an 80s-90s vibe, which would make sense if it were SET in that time period. The sound just doesn't fit a movie set in 2012. The story- like others said, it's just a whole lot of yelling at each other with a "where's the money" theme to the point that because they're all talking over each other it's hard to know why they're even arguing. At the end I saw it coming when someone got shot, it seemed to be escalating that way. But it felt a little unfinished. What happens to the girlfriend? The family? We leave the movie knowing nothing except that someone is dead.

WAY better than that Netflix show
11 April 2020
I was pleasantly surprised at how well this is put together budget wise as this is a streaming show. I had low expectations considering the Netflix interpretation of a fashion competition (which I won't name) was such a dumpster fire, but Tim and Heidi do not disappoint. They and the judges actually have good taste. This show pulls designers across the globe who already have careers in the industry and gives them a theme to work with every week, much like Project Runway. Most of them are very good designers. So far there has been a lot less drama than the other fashion shows, which I appreciate. I watch to see the clothes, the critiques, and techniques. Great show. The season is not complete yet, but I'm hoping for a season 2.

Theme: Rich people are stupid, poor people are clever
11 April 2020
Warning: Spoilers
The acting was great on the part of the con artist family. Mrs Park was just pathetic. Her character was played like she had an IQ of 50. I thought the story line as a whole was clever, but the very end was predictable. I knew exactly where the father Mr Kim went. I didn't like that he stabbed Mr Park. I didn't think that was in character, and it wasn't deserved. The poverty of the other family was not the Parks' fault. Their wealth inequality was just circumstance, and they were at the worst just ignorant. I couldn't root for the poor family because I didn't feel sorry for them. They could have used their wits to make better more honest choices to try and get ahead. Instead they chose to dupe people and take advantage of them. I liked that they showed the son at the end sitting in the apartment saying "someday" he will have enough money. A happy ending like the one they teased wouldn't have been fitting.

Entertaining and great soundtrack
6 April 2020
I hadn't heard of this movie before I watched it, but I was interested because of the 70's NYC setting and I'm a fan of the leading actresses. It's not perfect, but I really enjoyed it. I liked the story line of these women taking care of business while their husbands are away in a time period when that wasn't expected. There are a lot of dead bodies and murders, but it's a mob movie, so that's expected. I thought parts of the plot twist toward the end were a little anticlimactic, but otherwise a good movie. Excellent song choices, also.
