Over the Limit (2017)
Missing Basic Background for a Documentary
Although I enjoyed watching the journey of an elite Russian rhythmic gymnast as she prepares for a possible Olympic birth, this was difficult to watch on many levels. Bullying through verbal abuse is on full display and how it effects the three main women involved in this documentary. If you do not have some basic knowledge of rhythmic gymnastics and the three women involved, this documentary does not give you enough information to fill in the gaps. Understanding more background on the two coaches would have added some much needed context.
Charlie's Angels (2019)
Fun and entertaining
This movie delivered on many levels; from car chases, fight scenes, explosions, beautiful women, some comedy and an excellent cast. Quite frankly, it did a much better job of paying homage to the television series while elevating it to another level.
I'm not sure why there have been so many negative reviews about this film other then they must be reading way to much into a few clunky, women empowerment lines. There was good action throughout the movie. The locations were exotic and added to the film.
I have seen plenty of bad movies over the years, I am dissapointed that many reviews of this film are clearly coming from reviewers who have not seen the movie. I was entertained, it was fun, and you are lacking a pulse if you think this movie didn't have beautiful women like the original.
Lao ni mei (1995)
Seedy and gritty
This is a wild ride about a group of young street girls in Hong Kong. This is a very dark and graphic film that explores prostitution, drug abuse, sexual abuse, crime on the streets of Hong Kong, among other things. Although this film has few happy moments, it does create a sympathy for the central characters even though they shouldn't really be likable people. Reminds me of how I care for the characters in the Sopranos even though they are generally bad people. This film reminded me of a Chinese "Kids" and although darker in content,it is very similar to the Japanese film "Bounce Ko Gals". I would definitely recommend this film. I should mention that the subtitles were not the easiest to read because they are done in white and the English subtitles are running simultaneously with the Mandarin.
I Know Where I'm Going! (1945)
Great Visuals
This was a surprising film with beautiful scenery and special effects that are ahead of its time. This movie will have you longing for a visit to Scotland and its charming people. The only draw back is that the film can be a bit preachy at times but it still works overall.
Die Blechtrommel (1979)
Great and unique film
Span the life of a boy during the years when the Nazis controlled Europe. This is a unique perspective seen through a childs eyes. A biting look at the way war effects people , especially little Oscar. The visuals in this picture will stay with you for many years. This is a fabulous film!
