My favorite Genre of movies, is the movies that have many emotions in them. Examples: Forest Gump.. makes you laugh, mad, and sad. Then another, Mrs. Doubtfire. I like action movies, along as there is some good acting, a great script, and a decent director/producer behind it.. I will be happy. Favorite "behind it" guys: Martin Scorsese, Michael Bay, Steven Spielberg, James Cameron, and a good number more. Favorite Actors: Sean Connery(Retired), Robin Williams, Robert DeNiro, Al Pacino, Morgan Freeman, Samuel L. Jackson, Ray Liotta, Harrison Ford, Jack Nicholson, Tommy Lee Jones, Jim Carrey, Michael Keaton, and many more. Let me guess, you are probably saying to yourself, "WHAT!!!, all those guys are older, or retired"!!!!! Yep, yes sir that they are, it is called staying power. Not someone, who is a flash in the pan. If you want my favorite 'younger dudes' here they are: Matthew McConaughey, Josh Lucas, Joaquin Phoenix, Rory Culkin.. just to name a few.
Next favorite ACTRESSES (yes actresses, not actors..SUCKS, but catgorizing does have to exsist today).: Jodi Foster, Gwyneth Paltrow, Kim Basinger, Natalie Portman (I liked her it the The Professional), Glenn Close just to name a few of many... but realize something here that is way too damn common... just because an actress is beautiful, and/or she has had roles of being the sexy slut, Ms. Badass, or has shown some nudity.. DOES NOT MAKE HER A GOOD/GREAT ACTRESS. Lucy Liu, is a damn good actress, IF she is not acting the part of Ms. Badass. I loved her real, sweet role in Luck Number Slevin. I may be strange to you, but this who I am.. I say: you can tell how a person is by the movies they watch, and love. I am funny but cynical. Don't like it, you shouldn't worry... you will live on!!!

Armored (2009)
What the heck, really?!?!?!?!
This is one of those movies I will not say is good, nor bad. It is a very mediocre film. The cast is what, pretty much holds it together. I have surely seen better scripts, and story lines. The action scenes are decent. ...And, oh yeah....why would anyone freakin' care that Laurence Fishburne has gained weight??? Really?!?! That is pure, ignorant, moronic, delusional, immature reasons to not like a movie. Very petty. Get a life. It is really sad, to see that we, in general think like that. Larry is still a strong actor.
My overall reaction to this film, is to go see it as an 'early bird', Matinée, or wait for it on DVD.
Funny People (2009)
Say... Did I hear a Rooster, boy???
It is a funny movie, and it is actually different from a lot of today's comedies, hence; no drug usage in the movie, no making fun of people with disabilities, or too much bimbo-ish type women running around half- to - fully nude. Darn....that kills it for most of you out there. I hate it when that happens.
However, without the above *yawn* usual antics, the movie is actually quite good. Although, with one exception.... The producers seem totally fixed on the male genitalia. I don't know exactly how many times the word "C*ck" was mentioned, mostly by Adam Sandler. I believe Seth, who co-wrote the script, is in love with the penis. Most of his movies pretty much mention it quite a bit. That is about the only nit I have with the flick.
Overall, it is a above decent film, with a pretty realistic view of how stand-up comedians can live their lives. Mainly, the not-so-big-name stand-ups. It was usual Adam flair, with many punch lines, and gags...along with the drama thrown in. Good laughs all around, even with all the genitalia jokes....8/10.
Watchmen (2009)
Please, don't criticize what you don't know....
I am asking anyone who wants to go see this film, to PLEASE familiarize yourself of the storyline, and characters before you see it. It has a very deep story, very complex characters, and not for the soft-hearted. This story came from a comic novel. It us unlike the superheroes that you have heard so much about.
I ask you to either or both read the novel, or watch the DVD Watchmen: The Motion Comic. All 12 chapters are on the 2 disc set, and it will give you all the perspective of the movie, you will not be lost. OR, at the very least go to all the websites that are supporting the movie, and read of the main storyline, and characters.
I don't see how people can criticize something, so badly, that they nothing about. All they seen on the trailers was costumed people, and action sequences, and thought that it was going to entertain them. However, they did not see the big, huge letters on the screen pointing out it was from a graphic novel.
That is just my assessment, and opinion. I just hope folks heed it..to some degree. This is a very good story. Not a ton of action, but still very very good.
Powder (1995)
Gripping, and good...
This was a very unique film. A well thought out, and very original plot. A very good cast, and a great script. The city scenes were well defined. Sean Patrick Flannery played a character that we all (just somehow) knew in school, either some of us picked on the person, or was the ones who defended them...we knew someone like "Powder". He made you feel the pain, and suffering that he was experiencing.
Overall, the movie was terrific.
Now, does it really matter that Sean was 30 in this movie??? The folks who made the comments of Sean's age, gripe, and complain...knowing that almost all the shows, and movies that deal with high school students in school, are all in their mid 20's, and early 30's. 90210, Saved by the Bell, and many others. And some people are making a humongous deal about Sean's age.
I believe some of the pessimistic folks of this movie don't want to admit that they really enjoyed the movie, and want to sound cool by voicing all his/her "negatives" of the film. And, that folks, is my opinion, and guess what...... I am sticking to it.
Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (2008)
Man, I get sick of this.....
I really thought that Indiana Jones and The Kingdom of The Crystal Skull was a great film. There were some goofs, just like the goofs stated on the main page of this site. However, it did feel nostalgic, and old-school. I loved it, Harrison it starting to show his age, but he looks pretty good for it. AND, he can still make you laugh, with just one of his many facial expressions... if you like Harrison, you do have to love that. The acting turned in by Cate Blanchett is like always..right on. Even as a mean, persistent evil Russian woman, hell-bent on power, she kicks gluteus maximus. Shia LaBeouf just keeps getting more mature as an actor with each passing role he does. Then, of course, I can't go on without mentioning Karen Allen returns as the loved Marion Ravenwood. Awesome. Now, she looks pretty good today, and was terrific!! The locales, and backdrops were great, the stunts are what you may expect from a Spielberg/Kennedy/Marshall driven action movie. All is on base here.
I liked it, very much. Great acting, good cast, good cinematography. Good all around movie. 9 out of 10.
With a cigar between my forefingers, I put my hand to my head, and say... "Oh, just one more thing". I just got finished reading the main page comment, and over 100 people read it thoroughly..... What the heck??? This person (whom is from Washington, I will not put his/her name here), was like telling you to not like this movie just because he had an opinion, and was shoveling it down your gullets like shoveling manure into a small burlap bag, and people actually take it into consideration what he says. WOW, I guess there are a lot of SHEEP in this world, for sure. Because, I believe when a number of people read, and take in what a guy like that has to say, they will go to the movie with a pessimistic attitude toward the movie, looking for the flaws, and negatives. Then, he has the nerve, and the gall to say "When WE walk away...". So, I guess this guy is speaking for everyone, huh??? Although, he is strongly opinionated, and he does have his right to that. It is the folks that agree with him, without watching the movie first!!!!!!!! That is what grinds our gears..people like me, the real buffs of real movies. I am going to buy that guy (the opinionated commenter) the dude from Washington, a shovel, a big spoon, and a toilet, so he can shovel it, stir it, and flush it, then he move onto the next film/director/producer/actor he wants to try to destroy. Whose telling us that all the Star Wars Prequels... Failed??? Yep, he speaks for everyone... Then why is it, that everyone of George Lucas' great films are in the top 50 of the ALL TIME BOX OFFICE...., huh??? I feel like I should be Joe Flaherty, and follow this guy around all the time and, when the TIMES are right for it, call him JACKASS!!!.
Street Kings (2008)
I give this film a big................... WHOA!!!!
This film really surprised me. First off, I did go into the theater expecting Keanu to play as one of his cliché character modes. Boy, was I dead wrong. You will somewhat expect him as Neo, Jack Traven, or Ted Logan. Nope.... This has to be one of his best performances to date, no doubt. He makes his character so believable, and totally human like. The character of Det. Ludlow is very intense, very gritty, yet is nervous. You will have to see this performance for yourself. Outstanding....
Next, was the great cast behind Keanu. The always lovable Forest Whitaker plays a role that you will just shake your head at in astonishment... that is all I am gonna say about that. The loved House M.D. Hugh Laurie is terrific, and downright straight as a iron beam as his character is sporadically thrown throughout this film. Jay Mohr is not so easily recognizable with a mustache on his face, although, he plays a rare great role.
The script is also what really makes this movie. The acting from all performers is awesome, even down to the little stand in one liners. The tough, gritty Los Angeles locales, and backdrops puts you right in the action, the camera is worked with perfection, with just a tad of shakiness, to give you the rough cut feel.
So, if you want to go see a flick with great acting, a vehicle that makes your mouth water.. (Oh yeah, it's got a Hemi), a rough, and tumble cop thriller, with some decent shoot em' up scenes, that will leave you on the edge of your seat, AND an outcome that you most likely will not expect... This movie you may just like, and enjoy. Keanu looks like he grown up, and matured into a pretty darn decent actor. You will somehow be surprised yourself of this film. I actually give this film an 8 1/2 of 10.
The Bank Job (2008)
Could have been better...but...
I was quite surprised by this film, even though I think Jason Statham is a good actor of his generation. A number of his previous roles have been darn memorable (The Italian Job, and The Transporter, just to name the most obvious).
I will warn you now.... If you have had a hard time watching British movies previously.... because of the thick Old English accents, you will have a hard time with this movie. I am an old fan of BBC, so I did not have any trouble.
Now this flick is solid, with good suspense, and a clean, although not perfect story/plot. If you have previously read any of my reviews.. I will be damned to play spoiler here.... so, if you want to know the story's' faults, go see it yourself. But still, it was an excellent movie, with great acting from majority of the actors/actresses. There is really not of a lot of action in this movie, it more of a mix of suspense with some mystery, mix in a little drama, and then add a tiny bit of action.. you have the Bank Job.
It does get pretty intense, in a number of scenes. You should be able to feel the tensions, and feelings of the characters as they progress through the movie. Just wondering what lies around the next corner they come to.
I am telling you that this is a pretty good movie, I suggest that if you like suspense dramas, and you like Jason Statham, and don't forget about Saffron Burrows (if you watch Boston Legal, or have seen Reign over Me with Don Cheadle, and Adam Sandler), you should know of her. Solid movie, solid cast, solid script = a darn solid movie. Could have been better, but no one, and NO THING is perfect... At least not everything.
10,000 BC (2008)
The more things change..........
As I entered the theater this afternoon, which had a good crowd already there, along with the very loud talking 6 year old boy, for some strange reason was brought by his parent(s), knowing that this feature film would not keep this child interested until there was nothing but large animal scenes.
I say that about the people who moan, whine, cry, and complain about this movie. Just like they did when it came to Godzilla. "Not enough monster, wah, wah, wah". Godzilla was not a great movie, nor was it a bad one either. My opinion that is....
Now 10,000 B.C. from what I watched was very well put together movie. I did hear from the beer belly critics that they were peeved about the trailer 'supposedly' showed more saber-toothed tiger, and they griped about the love story. One that is not bad either.
I will put it to all of you in a very easy way. I will not tell you it is a movie that you NEED to go see, or a movie NOT to see.. that is not my position in life. I am not a god, nor a deity, nor a goa'uld. I am an equal just like you. I will say that I enjoyed it, and so did the folks I went to see the movie with. 3 males, and 4 females.
If you are looking for a movie with good acting without the today's huge name actors, and actresses.. a movie with great special effects; the animals especially... a movie with terrific sound, and lighting... a movie that CAN play with all emotions (not just anger, and comedy).... a movie that CAN have you at the edge of your seat... this is a movie that you may want to try.
I won't try to shove my opinion down your gullet, and play Dr. Jeckyl, and Mr. Critic god here. Go see the movie yourself with an open mind, and see what you think.
Brandy & Mr. Whiskers (2004)
Wow, this is supposed to be funny?!?!?!?!
This is a very very outright bold show. Mostly consists of toilet humor that seems to so very common today. The very first show I seen, had the characters burping/belching, and flatulence/farting as they were laughing about it all. If that is okay with you parents let the kids watch, if not.. I suggest something else. As far I as I am concerned this show belongs on Adult Swim on Cartoon Network. This show along with some others are not for children. But that is up to the parents to decide. I can think of so many other shows that could be better suited for children, no matter how you look at a television show, there will be some sort of negative that you will find. Be it violence, toilet humor, sexual innuendos.. etc.
The final say here, is you the parent.
Untraceable (2008)
Same old song, and dance. Not talking about the movie.
Well, I can say one thing about this movie is that is was very original. Most of the pessimistic losers out there who are fans of 'Gorror' movies will cry, and complain that it was a rip-off of the Saw series. Yeah, yeah... whatever. In reality... THIS could ACTUALLY happen. And the saddest part, is that people would log onto the site to watch THAT happen.
This movie was a little slow... It is not an action movie, does not have any nudity, no car chases, no monsters, no sex, no love triangle, no street fighting.. so the average movie-goer will find it lame, slow, and boring. I like slower movies, lets you think as you watch. Diane Lane was good, but not super. She has had better, no... much better roles. Joseph Cross plays a really creepy bad guy, with sick twisted emotions.
The movie was not great, but is surely was not a bad film. I believe if you are a real fan of Murder mystery, police detective films, with some thriller thrown in, you would, or may like this flick. With ONLY 1 Hr. and 40 Mins. if someone complains about length, they need to get checked for A.D.D. or they need to stick to teen-age comedies like Strange Wilderness, or Meet the Spartans.
Check this movie out with an open mind, don't let the pessimists cloud your idea of this film. It is an innovative film, with a good cast, and the shots of Portland, Oregon are not bad at all. I will actually give this film a 6 1/2 out of 10.
Cloverfield (2008)
Ahhh, here we go again!!!
Now this was a very hyped movie. Yes it was. I believe it was when I went to see Transformers, that I seen the teaser trailer. My friend, and I were a little surprised by the short action scene, and then a date appeared... and that was it!!! No title..nothing. Got to admit, this of course had a lot of people trying to figure out about this movie.
I went to the theater, KNOWING that this movie was shot in VERY REALISTIC way, by someone running around with a camera filming the movie like they were actually there!!! So, I was expecting a SHAKY camera. I went to this movie, expecting a movie that had real life scenarios, and situations...not just a mad, crazy, powerful monster on the loose. Grant it, that was the main thing, but like in real life, other things matter. There was some-what of a plot.. not very strong mind you, however there was a plot. That was the courage for one to go out of one's way, in the face of unrelenting danger, to attempt to save another. Sounds sappy, but it does really happen. The acting was strong, the cast was mostly upstarts, but good. The NYC backdrops, and scenes were great. The monster was awesome, and VERY original. The camera work was spot on, makes you feel like you were right there!! I really liked that, the sense that you part of the situation itself.
So, let me say this.. You should not really compare this movie with Blair Witch.. I liked Blair Witch, but originally, the Blair Witch movie folks (storyline) tried to make you believe that was actually a true story...remember??? This movie (Cloverfield), we all SHOULD know is FICTION!!! I give this movie a 9 out of 10, for the originality, and cinematography. Good work, folks. I was impressed!!!
Rambo (2008)
Uh......One word...... SURPRISING!!!
I like a lot of folks out there went to see this movie with the feeling that this was going to be cheesy, and too nostalgic... Boy, was I wrong. As you read these comments, you can see that most people who viewed this movie agree. It has a great meaning to what really happens in third world countries, and to that, a lot of us in this country don't condone violence, this movie shows that when a hand is around your throat, you may have to push back with equal, or more force..Sad, but true. The acting was very good, on all levels. And of course the future implications will arise, when some ignorant parent takes their 10 year old kid to see it, not realizing the R... yep.. R rating is there for a reason, then goes, and complains of the brutal, but darn near realistic battle scenes. Sly has been sort of picked on by the uptight crowd, who believe that (I have nothing against this actor) Will Farrell is one of the best actors of all time, but Sly CAN act. In this movie, you can really see this. If you are looking for a film to sit back, and relax to... THIS is NOT the film for you. If you are there to see a pulse driven, steroid shot to the cerebral cortex, a kick to the mid-region, a nuclear blast to all senses, this is the film that you would want to see. Hold tight, it puts you right there with the action!!!!
The Kingdom (2007)
This is a very deep movie.
I do have to say WOW. This was a very thought-out movie, with a very good cast, and great script. Jamie Foxx puts on a great performance, as well as Jennifer Garner, Jason Bateman showed that he was very human with a smart-ass sense of humor. And one of my favorite supporting actors; Chris Cooper, had a great part in this movie. The acting was brilliant, the sets were highly detailed, and the cinematography was raw, and excellent. Now for the movie itself, it really did show how much different people are JUST because of their religious beliefs, and the hate that is bred into some people, can just make you so confused of how others can be. Although, overall. You will see how anyone can work together if they/we can put aside our petty little differences, and cooperate to find what was found in this movie.... the truth. No matter skin color, country, or religion, people can work together, and can become friends. But also you will see in this movie, that how the children in some families are raised to hate, and loathe the believers of other gods. It is truly a crying, damn shame.
Lucky Number Slevin (2006)
Please, enough already!!
I, as a real fan of almost all genres of movies (except for horrors, and stupid teen comedies), I am sick of hearing why you people give your negative, pessimistic reviews of movies you most likely knew in advance, that you would not like anyway. You start watching the movie with a darn pessimistic screwed up attitude, thinking that Tarantino is the damn greatest director, and if he is not making the movie, it will definitely suck!!! You don't have to tell me that I am darn close on this. I have close friends that are that way, and they, as well as you all, have your right to your opinion. But some of you, really like to shove your opinions down the throats of others, for you believe your words are gospel. In this movie, you have not 1, not 2, but 3 of the greatest actors in this world. Morgan Freeman by far, is one of the most respected actors of Hollywood. That man can sit in front of 200,000 general people, and read a local phone book, and he will have every one of their undivided attention. Sir Bill Kingsley, to me is very underrated. You need to see, "Searching for Bobby Fisher" if that is you can watch it, there is no nudity, nor stupid comedy, such as someone running into a bus on a bicycle, or a bunch of wet T-shirt bimbos running around. Then, of course there is Bruce Willis. I need not to say much about the man, that darn near all red blooded Americans know already. Then there is the very up, and coming Josh Hartnett. I imagine all hormonal females loved the towel thing. The part I admired the most -- had to be the part played by Lucy Liu. I was not a big fan of Lucy Liu, until I seen her play this part. Why? I don't care for the roles she had played previously; which were almost all Miss Betsy Badass........so damn passé of today.....yawn. In Lucky # Slevin, she plays a human female, with real emotions. She was cute, warm, funny, and entertaining. Next, was Stanley Tucci. Great act from him, as always. Now the part I am really burned up on, is the person(s) who stated the movie was predictable... First off, let me guess you are fan of Tarantino, right? Next, let me see............ You work in the carnivals guessing the weight of people, and you are damn good at.........let me see, the government has contacted you on numerous occasions to help them, because you can predict anything, right? Stupid, right? Just like you saying this movie was predictable. I have not found anyone personally yet, who has not given this movie anything lower than a 6/10. I as a real fan of movies, not of just one genre, not of just one, or two directors/producers/writers/actors, not of just nudity, not of just action, not of just violence, not of just car chases, etc., etc., etc.. I am a FAN, a BUFF. I will see a movie for what it is worth, not because I want to sound cool, by being pessimistic. Maybe you really feel that way, then again... maybe you don't. But, to me, and everyone I personally know, this was a great movie.... mind you, not perfect, not even close, but damn good. That is why I am giving this movie, with a terrific cast, good script, and set. A movie that kept you guessing--- an 8 out of 10.
The Brave One (2007)
Wow, go Jodie!!!
I went into this movie, with some hopes of it being "just good". I came out, totally surprised, and entirely satisfied with saying that it was a great movie. Jodie takes over the screen like she damn near has almost always done. She just keeps on proving what an absolutely admirable actress she is, and is improving each time she gets in front of the camera. I have always loved her acting. The first movie she caught me in big time, was 'Stealing Home' with Mark Harmon. She demands the screen, just like the character she portrays, demands the respect of the people that hurt her. I have not seen a lead female role lately that has caught my attention as much as this movie has. This movie really has a way of putting you, the viewer, into her shoes, and letting her feel the emotions of hers, as she tries to unravel the ball of emotions that are just lumped up inside her. I think you can understand her situation. That is how gripping this story is. I don't like to play the spoiler, and I will not. My advice to you is to go watch this movie, with a totally opened mind, expecting really nothing, but just Jodie Foster, and you will be impressed. This movie has a great cast, a great script, and nice, decent set. Great acting all around, with little quips of humor thrown in to keep you moving through all the drama, and emotions. You will love the one in the liquor store between the two detectives. Quick funny line. Great film, give it a try, and watch it!!
MDs (2002)
I WAS really enjoying this show!!!!
I was really getting into this show, it had to two great lead characters....that DID NOT know each other, until the two met later in the season..the only season they shown here in the Central U.S.!!!!!!!!!! But the characters were played by great, sometimes seems as very underrated actors; William Fichtner...you have to love a lot of the characters he plays: good or bad guy. Then there is the very funny John Hannah... anyone can easily remember his flamboyant character from the Mummy movies. This show did have a M*A*S*H feel to it, but in Modern day, inside the urban lifestyle of the United States. Some people have felt that it got too close to M*A*S*H, and did not like that...like watching a poodle guard a pile of fresh meat, they would get mad, and call MD's a show that copied another good show. No matter what they believe, or say.. if you have a show about a hospital today, and it is somewhat of a 'Dramedy', it's staff, and the show will be blamed for copying the great M*A*S*H. Too bad. Anyway, I did like this show, and I was hoping it would be on for a long time, but it did not last one full season. Very sad...
