Ghoul (2015)
Pretty Scary, Could Use Some Polish
I love found footage films and this one was pretty good compared to my standards. There were definitely flaws such as character choices, dialogue, the camera going very blurry and unfocused towards the end. The story revolved around a cannibal ghost/demon but somehow the whole story felt like a big messy mix of many different types of sub genres in the horror genre. The shots were decent, atmosphere was grimy and creepy. The woods surround and old farm was a nice location. Once the action started happening it got creepier and creepier with a few original ideas. Worth a watch.

Sator (2019)
Every Single Shot Was Gorgeous & Erie
Beautiful movie as far as cinematography goes. The director really put a lot of effort into making a gorgeous, artistic and fascinating piece. It blew my mind how every shot was erie and some were downright frightening. I do think most of the understanding of the actual story has to be either from your own personal knowledge of God or from researching the beliefs of the Torah. We are Israelites so it came somewhat obvious to us that this was a demon who wanted people to think it was God while doing many things God would never do. It felt like a very malevolent creature despite some of the dialogue relating to it being kind and loving. Most of the movie was just spooky atmosphere but there is a nasty kill in the latter half and another one more violent than disgusting. If you can't handle a slower pace and need constant adrenaline you probably won't enjoy this but maybe you could take a chance and try it anyway. It really is something different. I appreciate all the work they put into this movie. It really was something.
The Wendigo (2022)
Horrible...Just Awful
I could barely pay attention it was so boring. They got the wendigo lore wrong and didn't even try to just make a creative twist to the lore. The makeup was awful and cheesy most of the time. Occasionally it looked creepy but that didn't last long. The trail cams were so stupid in this black and white artsy style. Making the video lag or blur and freeze and then play over and over again in various scenes is the most annoying. We get it. Everything they really couldn't compensate for their budget they pretended the camera had an issue. Nobody seemed to be the main character. Dialogue was very stupid. Characters were so one dimensional I neither cared nor wished them dead. They just meant nothing at all. The wendigo itself looked incredibly awful. Like a walmart ghillie suit and a cheap halloween skull. Just a terrible movie. Awful. Don't fall for the movie poster.
Open 24 Hours (2018)
A Bit Gorey, Definitely Creepy
So as someone else pointed out the main girl is stupid. Her decisions made me so mad sometimes I was just shouting at the TV, stupid stupid stupid stupid! Some of the shots were inconsistent too, like she has blood all over her face one scene and the very next shot it's all been wiped off when clearly she had no time to do that. Or some of the shelving had been sat back up. I enjoyed the creepy vibe though. The suspense was great because even we weren't sure what was real or not. I'm irritated by the end cause it didn't make total sense. But I will give them props because that bad guy was amazing! Like a cross between Michael Myers and psycho. Just amazing. So yeah....watch it.
Older Gods (2023)
Very Nice Shots But Somewhat Lacking in Action
I felt like they had something going but just didn't quite know where to take it. They had great actors, a great theme, beautiful shots, but we reaming in the same room most of the movie...he does a bunch of talking to himself and watching stuff. Gets a bit creeped out. I just felt like this would've panned off better as a documentary. Some of the epic shots were beautiful but most of intensity was lost due to the story just barely treading shallow water. Made me sad cause the actors did so well. A few things here and there had me confused. I won't spoil it for you. It was decent but my husband completely fell asleep. It's a 50/50 really. Good but not memorable.
Dark Tales from Channel X (2021)
AWFUL
I love anthologies. Unfortunately this one was so bad we shut it off to watch something better. The storyline, decision making, dialogue were terrible at best. The sound effects were more annoying than useful. Why would you turn your flashlight on and take pictures with your phone if your battery was dying? Why would you complain about making too much noise and being scared to wake up the kid only to turn right around and loudly bang around in every cabinet and drawer you find? I hated the babysitter. She was just disrespectful, nonsensical, irritating character. Then the stupid guy on the TV with all the weird effects that were so drawn out and overdone it made me nauseous. I gave him some credit at first but then the dialogue was completely balled into a mess of fancy words to sound spooky and it failed hard. The first segment had me even more frustrated as nothing was giving us any hint as to what was happening. And then after a very very short amount of time just ends with no explanation. We had no idea how we even got into the first segment. Then the girl loudly exclaims. "That was so cool!" No....it absolutely wasn't and if you think it was then I can tell the rest won't be worth watching....save yourself.
Bloody Hell (2020)
Bloody Amazing!
I'm surprised anyone could write a bad review for this movie. Maybe they went in expecting something else. I just found this entire movie to be amazing. There was action, an original story, a lovable hero, some odd romance, decent amount of horror, and suspense and comedy. Like wow they managed to shove all that in one film and make it workable. I love it. The "gore" wasn't bad at all. I think even a sensitive person could stomach it. The deaths at the end were hard to watch but necessary. If you don't know what to watch tonight, curl up with this one. I really really would love to see a sequel. Absolutely fantastic guys!
Sinphony: A Clubhouse Horror Anthology (2022)
Not Bad but Don't Go In Expecting Perfection
I love anthologies so this caught my eye and actually won out over another anthology I saw simply due to the amount of shorts in it. The more the better. This anthology did seem of better quality than most ive seen with better shots and lighting. Not perfect but enjoyable. While I enjoyed most of them, some of them I found quite stupid. Most of them needed more explaining. However there was a decent amount of originality to worn out stereotypes that I appreciated. Acting was sub par, not completely noticeable but ones like the Spore short were frustrating to watch with bad interpretations or lack thereof of fear. A good looking character dosent make for a good actor. I'm very glad no children were harmed, that's a big deal for me. However I wonder how scarred that poor child was being on set for the Coven short. All in all, I wouldn't necessarily say pass on it However your not missing too much if you do. Not much gore, one shot of intestines (I guess?) It's not shown well. The rest is just blood, a slit throat. I can appreciate horror without all the extra nastiness. Overall nice job guys it reminds me of a game jam.
All Eyes (2022)
Exciting, Suspenseful and a Little Sad
I really enjoyed this movie. The story was very original, very well put together, and unpredictable. I didn't even necessarily notice that this was a lower budget film because the shots are so beautiful and diverse. We definitely get a fully fleshed out environment with well formed emotional moments and we feel everything the characters are feeling. I really enjoyed the characters, the ending was ok, I guess I just expected something a bit more dramatic. This isn't your usual horror movie. The horror comes from an unexpected source and then later an expected source as well. When the story twists like that it really gives a sense of suspense and uncertainty. Definitely give this movie a try, you will enjoy it.
The Conspiracy (2012)
Scariest Movie I've Seen in Awhile
I think that what makes this film so scary is the very realistic elements of all the individual pieces that made up the plot. Most if not all the conspiracies talked about are actual conspiracies Most of us are familiar with. I appreciated the acting, the loads of suspense and danger always nearby but never in your face until necessary. People are always so much scarier than monsters. This movie is definitely worth the watch. It scared me so bad, it gets you thinking. The camera was a bit fuzzy at the end so that was frustrating but it was night and shot from a tiny spy cam so that's to blame. No blood (that I saw), no gore, no nudity. Everything was so tasteful and well done. Great job guys!
The Death of April (2022)
Eh....It was okay
I'm not going to lie I went in not expecting much and that's exactly what I got. Not complete disappointment, there was some creepy scenes but mostly it was just watching some preppy rich girl waste everything her daddy gave her for drinking and boys. The whole ghost thing was layered so thinly on top it just didn't feel like the two were a coherent story. The ending was only more frustrating as it was so abruptly executed and that was it. If you want something tame then here you go. But honestly it was a pretty plain forgettable flick I wouldn't bother watching twice. Sucks cause the movie poster looked epic. Btw....next time don't get your actor for a mom character from a porno flick....
Death of Me (2020)
People Don't Need to Be So Critical
I enjoyed this movie. The ending could have been explained just slightly better but overall if you're paying attention you get the point. There were some awesome scenes and creepy characters. I will warn you there is some gore spread throughout the movie. And no rape scene like the parental guide implies. There is a fully covered sex scene you can even see in the trailer but she's obviously enjoying herself and participating. The main character likes to push the blame on everything off on everyone else. Maggie Q and Luke Hemsworth do a nice job of acting like a genuine married couple at least for awhile. He maintains his husbandly role and she just kind of puts everything on him. So the storyline isn't bad but it could've been polished a bit. The suspense and not knowing what's real and what's not is actually pretty cool. It's definitely not perfect but it was good. Definitely worth watching.
Parental guide: mild sex scene, a few brutal deaths, some frightening and intense scenes, swearing, not a movie for children.
Into the Forest (2019)
Creepy, Somewhat Intense, Kind of Weak
Definitely not a bad movie. I was oddly surprised by how much I enjoyed it. Any time someone is caught in the woods in the dark there's usually a pretty good chance it's gonna be scary. The characters were somewhat unique, they weren't annoying like some groups in movies. The one guy was but it was kind of his job as a youtuber. I wish more had happened but there was enough intensity and creepy scenes to make up for a lack of actual visual effects. It's not a movie that's gonna stick in my head but it was decent. Acting pretty good, dialogue fairly good, storyline ok, scenes ok-good. It's not a hit but it's definitely not deserving of 1 star. Some people just have incredibly high expectations. Some blood but no gore or nudity.
The Lost Vlog of Ruby Real (2020)
AWFUL
This movie was a complete bore fest. I literally spent half the time doing other things waiting for it to get better. The guy talked like he was reading off a script the whole time. It was so unbelievable it was irritating. Then the two girls fighting over the guy was just nonsense and cringe too. The random "sex" scene was so awkward it made my skin crawl. They acted like two teenagers who had no idea what they were doing. Then the entire time barely anything happens. It was so boring I was already thinking of what else I wanted to watch next. Nothing happens literally. Besides terrible filters, a few green lens flares and crappy moving wallpapers they put no effort into this. I'm actually irritated I lost an hour to this movie. Save yourself and watch something else.
Nightshot (2018)
Not Bad, the Story Made Me Sick Though
The horror movie in itself was done well especially since it was shot in such a unique way. The black and white seemed natural because of the darkness. The storyline of pregnant women getting dissected was horrific and disgusting though. I really wish I had been made aware of this before hand because I couldn't have watched it. That being said, the main character played her part well even though I'm not sure "dumb" Youtuber was quite what she was going for. Like no ghosts don't stay in one place. And quoting ghost hunters like they are experts. The dragging on did its part in effectively scaring you and feeling like it was more real when the scares did happen. Hugo was the biggest drag ever though. Watching him carelessly stroll about and complain about his vertigo and his camera was infuriating. The ending didn't make total sense. However the "final climax" or second to last was awful and terrifying. By awful I mean it was so hard to watch I had to cover my ears too because the sounds that girl made were horrific. Well done, it felt somewhat real and I didn't even mind that it was in French. If you can stomach the storyline then give it a try.
Mister Creep (2022)
Super Creepy
So let me start by saying this was a very very creepy film. The choices made by the characters, the acting, logic and writing do not add up nor are we given really any answers as to what is going on. HOWEVER, I thoroughly enjoyed the film. Most scary movies aren't scary. But this one kind of was. The jump scares were terrifying and unexpected. The final scene was horrifically creepy. The characters sucked so I didn't really care what happened to them but I had a major appreciation for how terrifying the wall art was in Vals room. Overall, definitely give this movie a try. Yeah it has some issues but it was really good and will get your heart racing. Trust me there is worse out there.
Alone in the Dark (2005)
Way Better Than the Rating
I'm surprised this movie got such a bad rating but I attributed this to two things: people in 2023 aren't used to the movie styles of 2005 and don't like it OR people in 2005 were horrified by the mild amount of gore allowed on TV at the time and thus rated it badly. Honestly compared to movies today this movie wasn't gorey really at all. There were only two or three scenes I would even remotely call gorey and it was cheesy enough that it didn't bother me. An autopsy is naturally gonna be "gorey" but it was very mild. A spine ripped in half and a head cut in half was a bit nasty but again still very cheesy. The movie had some epic scenes in it. One of my favorites being a war between the soldiers and the creatures while metal music played and flashes of gunfire and attacks went on in music video style. It was incredible. And the whole thing was quite nostalgic. Some of the cgi was even fantastic for that time. Honestly I enjoyed it. Interesting storyline, some of the choices were weird and there was one death that didn't make much sense. I saw this on tubi and there was no sex scene so if your wanting the hard-core gore and added sex scenes that's gonna be in the German version of the film. You'll enjoy this movie just give it a chance.
Goatman (2023)
Absolute Trash
This had to be some student project but even if it was, they clearly didn't learn anything. Most of the beginning was just nonsense where they male fun of Fox news. It wasn't funny. Most of it wasn't funny at all. The shots were done so poorly it looked like a bunch of children filmed it. There was no need for the excess character building because regardless of their stories you don't care about the characters anyway. We didn't even finish it. We got to the point where they showed the goatman for the first time and it was such a hideous joke I couldn't take it seriously anymore. Just don't watch it. It's awful.
Follow the Dead (2020)
Slow, Boring Strange Story
I should've known better than to trust the reviews. I didn't check to see whether they were fakes so that was on me. Irish films such as this one tend to really lack all the characteristics of an exciting film we are used to. This is in no way horror, only mildly funny, more drama than anything. My husband fell asleep during the movie and I nearly did too. It was mostly about this guy who left his wife to take care of his siblings and cousins. Most of the movie dosent make sense, it goes back and forth between terrorists and zombies. The characters weren't very interesting. The good part was the dialogue though. It was odd how it was full of wisdom and though provoking tidbits. This whole movie was just a big mixed bag of confusion and mess. If you want a horror movie this isn't it. I would in no way call this horror. If you don't mind the super slow burn drama with a zombie element you might like it though.

Yet Another Great Russian Film!
I'm absolutely pleased. The scenes were done nicely, the characters were slightly vague but each were different and unique. Each death was surprising and done in a fairly tasteful way oddly enough. I enjoyed the twist at the end and the dubbing over in English didn't bother me at all. It's definitely something I'd watch again, it's not super original but it had some interesting ideas and cook shots. I kind of wish yhe last death had been more obvious cause it kinda made it seem like the person just vanished so that was kind of weird. And they definitly missed an opportunity at the very end but I see why they sropped it there. Definitely give it a try!
Ryad 19 (2021)
Pretty Good! Better Than the Reviews!
I'm surprised so many people say they didn't get the end because it was very clearly spelled out. It was great. Very original idea with excellent cgi and storytelling. The dubbing over the little girl was a bit weird but everything else was great. I wish there was slightly more explanation for a few of the characters but overall it was a great film. I've come to notice that alot of Russian films are amazing. And the "gruesome" deaths were nothing compared to what most people would call gruesome. One girl has water spilling out of her mouth, another guy's head starts bleeding, one guy gets burned pretty bad (that one is as bad as it gets and even that isn't awful), some guy has a heart attack. I wouldn't consider that a gorey movie, maybe shocking for younger viewers or those who are really sensitive to that sort of thing. Wonderful movie though give it a try!
Bodom (2014)
Wasted Potential
Honestly this movie was a mess. I love found footage and I can give credit to even bad ones but this just made no sense and they covered that up by saying "we just don't know". It was a poorly written story, terrible script, the actors had such an awful relationship that was nonsensical at best. Nik's whole backstory was ridiculous and frankly her anger didn't make alot of sense either. It was her choice to do the thing she's so angry about! We never figure out what happened at all. None of it makes any sense. The camera shots of the landscape were beautiful and the location were all it had going for it. This whole thing could've been done in 30 minutes or less. It was really just filler and arguing.
The Recall (2017)
Cheesy but Not Bad
The dialogue sucked, some of the scenes felt very confusing and unrealistic. The characters were bland and very cliche but overall it was an entertaining film. It was what you could expect from a directors first film. Like a decent try, not some choppy school project. The ideas weren't bad just a little messy. Wesley Snipes was in it quite a bit more than the other reviews try to make you think.
The real action came toward the latter half of the film where it almost becomes more of a horror movie and take a real scary turn. I really enjoyed the twist and then the double twist. It was a bit unpredictable and I was happy with the ending even if I did have a question or two. Not my top 10 but definitely wasn't my worst 10 either. Definitely give it a try, if nothing else I'm positive you'll enjoy the second half of the film.
Koma (2019)
Finally...a perfect movie
I can almost never say a movie is perfect, has all its rounded corners and includes everything needed for a fantastic film. This one did. I don't care that it was dubbed over in English though I think I would've just preferred subtitles to keep to the original tone and culture of this masterpiece. This films dialogue was natural and interesting. Not too much, not too little and nothing was overused. The characters were all unique and vibrant and stood out from one another. Each were interesting characters as well and their strengths and weaknesses played off of eachother flawlessly. It almost felt as if there was two storyline at one point and they came together smoothly, intertwined carefully and came to a solid conclusion that made us want another movie! The visual arts is stunning to say the least. This director clearly sees the world in such a different way. And it's beautiful. You will be stunned and fall in love with this movie. Hands down my favorite movie. Kind of made me want to be in a coma.
Night Drive (2019)
Gory and Frustrating to Watch
I was excited for this movie but ultimately disappointed. The people who thought this movie was funny are clearly disturbed. No one thought to mention how disgusting and gory this movie really was. I nearly vomited popcorn thanks to the horrific behavior of this obvious psychopath.
This movie was just unreasonable, they took the time to build up this happy atmosphere with a sad man and then dumped a gallon of increasingly worse criminal behavior and textbook psychopathic behavior until it became this nauseating mix of genres and scenes that were just irritating to watch. It was if this man just couldn't make any decisions for himself, like he just refused to be the dominant voice in any situation. Then as a final slap in the face they add the sci-fi into it.
And I'm sorry that ending was pure garbage. Yeah we got the ending we desired but it was all way too easy after the immense struggle put up this entire time just to make the main character make one freaking decision of his own.
The girl was such an awful unlikable character who earned absolutely no sympathy. And the man was just as bad being a mopey pathetic loser who just couldn't do any better for himself.
The story was just....full of holes, there were characters we needed answers about or backstories and we got nothing. I'm so disappointed. Don't watch this trash. The people who think this is funny are sick.
