Ticket to Paradise (2022)
a good old classic romance comedy
I mean, what is there to not like? This specific branch within the genre of romance comedies is so rare these days and it feels like so much joy to finally have one with all the cringe elemants and non realistic concepts that just put your logic on pause for a while and let you thrive. Dear old george clooney still as charming as ever, julia roberts and her killer smile, the colors, the vividity, the concept, the everything, with a cherry on top; lucas bravo . What a breeze of fresh air really. I have genuinely enjoyed it, and i wish we were to get more of movies like this, not much nudity and sex scenes that sell, not much new ideas to put into people's heads, just a fun ride full of love and laughter.
Mr. Harrigan's Phone (2022)
a lovely gem for my fellow dark academia admirers
First of all, i would not classify this as horror. Its definitely more of a thriller/mystery. The trailer does set up incredibly high expectations that do lead to disappointment because frankly, there isn't much more to the story from what is already shown on the trailer. Regardless, the incredible acting, the cinematography, the narration, the overall aura surrounding the whole film is so captivating you lose yourself in it so i would definitely recommend watching it. I can't quite pinpoint the message behind it perse, but i think it would hit close home for someone who is dealing with grief and letting go of a loved one who passed away.
Don't Look Up (2021)
to call it brilliant would be quite an understatement.
This movie handles our sad truth in such a clever and humorous way. It is like a wake up call for people to realize how much they owe to the world and to themselves, but make it fun because those very same people can't really keep paying attention once the topic gets scientific or too serious. As someone who always liked to just dive in head first into deep conversations, felt no hesitation to discuss death and the world coming to an end on the dinner table, i saw through this movie's subtleness like i saw through the way people dodging my topics because they were too heavy, or just not suitable for literally any occasion. I enjoyed this one wholeheartedly and it left a strong impact to be honest. And as said at last, we had everything didn't we. We're heading there, we will keep distracting ourselves with various inventions and gossip till we get there, and perhaps that is the only way around it at last, maybe there is no escape to the doom of humanity, for the sole reason of being human. Also the acting is so meticulous, what a blessing to get DiCaprio and Chalamet on the same screen.
Five Feet Apart (2019)
a rebirth of a beautiful piece
The thing about movie adaptation is that it always somehow leaves something out, fails to transfer certain feelings which is understandable because words are just endless, whereas a scene is. but the thing about this movie is that the actors delivered, way more than the characters themselves which was amazingly fulfilling for someone who felt that the book and the basic plot was flawy from the very start. it basically went from a cliche to a heart wrenching story, just the way it was supposed to be. one of the best movie adaptations out there, the cast made it happen.
All the Bright Places (2020)
they had so much but they gave too little
I had this feeling since they announced the movie that i will be disappointed somehow because the book is just way too good and detailed to be put into two hours worth of scenes, but after watching it i ended up not just disappointed, but also mad and really upset because i felt robbed somehow. three minutez in and the beginning, which the whole novel and following events were practically based on was changed. the father and the whole violence thing was given little to no interest. his whole personalities concept, the letter he left violet, the letters he sent his sisters and friends. these things made the story so memorable to me yet they weren't even mentioned. we were given little to no finch and im mad about it. the book had great potential but the movie just felt extremely rushed and made finch's suicide so shallow. i loved the cast, but everything else just sucked. i wish i watched it before reading the book, i feel like i could've enjoyed it a bit more.
