Confusing themes

Warning: Spoilers
I'm surprised by the high ratings. The movie isn't terrible but it certainly has its flaws. It is a slow movie with a very thin plot. I don't mind slow burning movies but my partner was waiting for this movie to go somewhere, which it did not.

My main issue with the movie is, it's trying for a happy ending... But we have just witnessed the main character cheat on his boyfriend/husband who have tried for a baby and will try again. When they are both at the airport parting ways, the isreali guy starts crying (why?) And he says "you should try again for a baby, you'll be a good dad". Erm no, the American character said he was in a monogamous relationship and just cheated on his husband. That's not the type of environment to bring a child in.

If the movie wasn't trying for the happy go well ending then fine.... But it seems to be aiming for that and it wasn't really happy at all.

Avatar 1 - but with water
19 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The story is about humans wanting something they can extract from the planet to sell back on earth as it's valuable. And sully, the main character, goes to this tribe to learn their ways, such as how to hunt and rise their local animals. It all ends in a big fight scene where one of the local animals that's bigger than the other ones defends the Navi.

Sorry that's avatar 1. I meant to review Avatar 2.

You catch my drift. It's basically the first movie.

Scream (I) (2022)

It wasn't great
16 January 2022
I've never been a huge fan of the series, but I enjoyed the first few for what they were. Then I grew up. The series has gotten ridiculous. I have no idea how this has gotten good reviews.

I generally don't like films that do meta... But this is just everywhere. At one point you had a girl watching a stab movie and she was screaming at the character to look behind him ..... And that character was watching TV and shouting at that character to look behind him. Obviously she should have bee looking behind her because that's where the killer was.

A fanfic movie would have faired better
24 December 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The story was bad. It didn't feel like a matrix film. The meta was terrible.

Neo is now a game designer (in the matrix) and his first 3 games were the matrix. Now Warner brothers are forcing him to create a sequal and he doesn't actually want to make it. OK Lana, you wernt exactly subtle here, but you could have still tried to make a decent film. I know you wanted toa stick your middle finger up to those at WB but you didn't need to do it to the film fans.

Gone are the interesting characters. Gone are the interest plot points. Gone is the great cinematography, martial arts and action sequences. Replaced with them are B grade copies of your fav characters and the action scenes are pieced together with short cuts and shaky cam. Yes you heard that right.. Action sequences are shaky cam as it covers for the lack of martial arts specialists they had for this film.

CGI is bad and so is the green tint. Now you have film as generic as Michael Bay movies.... But less interesting. The film constantly references the previous movies which makes you feel sad because all you think was "I wish I was watching that movie instead"

I don't know why this movie is rated so highly
1 October 2021
It's not an awful film but it's not good either. I thought the plot was weak, so we're the characters. The animation was okay but weak in points. It's definatly not in the league of other marvel films.

Friends: The Reunion (2021 TV Special)

Fresh Prince did it better
29 May 2021
I was always more of a fan of Friends then I was Fresh Prince, but in terms of how each show handled their reunion.... Fresh Prince did it better. My main gripes with the reunion

1) the flow, too many segments going back and forth. Was not edited well.

2) I don't care what celebrities and random peoples favourite episode was 3) fan of gaga but again I don't care why she was there. There's way too much filler in this documentary 4) interviews and questions were boring. As an interviewer, your meant to ask questions the audience wants to know the answer to. James Cordon was asking such bland questions.

The fresh Prince documentary just worked. It was edited much better, the audience got to know more about the show and its actors and more about the behind the scenes stuff. I didn't learn anything here. Its worth a watch and made me smile in bits....that's all.

Overrated
31 December 2020
Pixar have some of my fave movies. Toy story, monsters Inc, inside out, and coco. But this was not one of them.

This movie reminds me of inside out but without the laughter, and coco without the heart. Its not funny, and I didn't feel emotional like the movie was trying to make me feel.

Pixar movies are usually great for all members of the family but I don't feel that many young kids would love this movie. It's definatly more adult focused and my young kid was completely uninterested.

Like the movie, loved the show
14 July 2020
I've never read the novels but I watched the movie. I liked it a lot, so I wondered why they were retelling the same story that already had decent praise.

Having just watched the finale of this series, I thought this was much much better. I'm simply amazed how good it was. I was on the edge of my seat. They've changed enough to keep you suprised, but kept the general theme of the story.

How the hell has this only got a 6.5??!! Deserves 8 at least.

Not the worst star wars, but still not good
23 December 2019
The pacing of these movie was off. It was just one action scene to the next with no space to breathe.

Palpatine was forced in right at the start of the movie.... Oh OK... He's alive.... Oh so she's a palatine. Okay. Oh he's dead again. I just didnt find myself caring about either the goodies or the baddies.

The force seems to have become Harry Potter esque where it can do anything the conjurer wishes it to. Now they can force touch heal/bring back to life. That was only a rumour and something that could only be done from the dark side, and we was told it was very hard to do. We have the main character doing it on a whim now. Next, you can now transport objects across space with the force . That's new. This is after the last episode after we had 'that scene' with leia flying through space. Why can they now make lightsabres or vaders mask transport through space with the force? That doesn't make sense. We also have a scene with Rey floating with rocks around her. So they can now levitate / fly.

Somehow Palpatine was able to get thousands of huge space ships built, staff them on a hidden planet, and managed to keep it all kept secret. That's quite a feat. And for some reason, they pilot of each of these ships can't figure out how to go up without some sort of ground satilite.

My main gripe with this episode and new trilogy over all, is there is no overarching story. The prequal told the story of how and why he turned evil, and how the empire became strong through infiltrating politics.

The main trilogy was about the Rebels fighting back against the empire and Lukes journey. This trilogy didn't really have an overarching story. Villains come and go. No one really had a journey. It was just battles that I really didn't care about. Probably because I knew a saviour would come the moment after the character loses hope.

This trilogy has made me admire the prequals more. Although flawed, it had an actual story to tell. The music was much more memorable and the characters were fleshed out.
