Yit yuk chui gik dong on: Che saat (1996)
Twin search for other twin, Sex and violence.
I liked this, it's a rather slow pace movie with sex and violence and good looking scenery. And plenty of funny characters.
Not the best plot ever but that's not the reason to watch a movie like this. It never get as gory or as sexual as some of the other movies in this genre. A nice movie for a rainy afternoon.
My DVD had a decent English subtitles even if you now and then could see that some of the wording where a bit strange, but I've seen far worse. Also now and then the subtitles are to fast to cover to much dialog and then at other times the dialog goes on for ever and is translated "Luckily" but I think that is part of the fun with this kind of movies.
Tomie (1998)
Tomie never dies
I liked this, it kind of gets under your skin. They set the mood very well and it's kind of creepy through the whole film. But I wouldn't recommend it to anyone looking for action or gore/splatter.
I like the rather slow pace and what you never know what will happen. It has some really nice jealousy twists gone really bad as well.
Also there is a very nice Japanese presence in the movie, captured very nice. If you are interested in Japan, it's nice just to look at the surroundings and strange signs.
One bad thing was the subtitles on my DVD, that was so bad it wasn't even funny. As an example, things where the plot suggested for translation to be "Let's go" was subtitled as "I've Moved" and that is a strange thing to say to get the police force going. But after a while you get used to the fact that everybody talks like Yoda :-)
Ramones Raw (2004)
Live footage and looks behind the scenes with Ramones
I liked this movie. On the other hand I didn't buy it until it became available as a budget DVD (less than $10).
I liked the Ramones before, and I like them after seeing this movie.
It have a little bit of everything and no real deep, but that wasn't what I was looking for. Live footage, backstage footage, TV appearances, goofing around, "private" shots of the band etc. all you want from a Music DVD.
If you don't like Ramones don't buy this, if you like them do buy it. It won't change your life but you get a few hours of entertainment.. It's far better than watching a bad Hollywood movie or such.
The Final Victim (2003)
a boarding school with a lesbian warden that is in the trafficking business!
Talk about wasted potential! This movie could have been at the absolute top in it's genre, all the good stuff was there: Boarding school, young (czech) girls, toplessness, lesbian head master (wearing thigh leather outfits), knee high white stockings, cotton nickers, trafficking, torture, punishment, lesbo action, evil organizations, corruption, bribed police, short skirts, school girl uniforms.
and it just falls flat. This movie sucks! The main/leading actors suck (and the leading female is the only female with silicon tits and botox lips - and that does NOT help at all), the plot is amazingly bad. Everything that could have been fun in an Asian movie is either cut out/not shown/censored.. No nudity (but I think this is a movie with more tits than any other movie I have seen), no violence - it's all just implied off camera.
no action, no fun, no nastiness, no anything.
The Czech actors do their best, look good and are basically alright. But the Canadian part just makes it un-watchable.
This sucks more than anything else I have seen in the genre, this movie is nothing that you would like to spend time with, anything else is better value for your time/money.
The only thing that keeps this movie from getting the lowest score is the female vs male fighting. When the silicon titted heroine kills of prison guards it's good entertainment, but that is only 4 of the 94 minutes that the movie lasts and not worth it in anyway!
Ryôjoku mesu ichiba - Kankin (1986)
A dark movie with loads of rape scenes and torture
I liked this movie! It's very dark in how it show us the world of today, don't get your hopes up. You are left on your own and nobody is going to help you.
The story is not that special and does not really leave an imprint, but the pictures and the mood make it a nice view. The gloom and the feeling of being unable to make a difference kind of get to you.
It have the basics for it's genre: rape (repeatedly), torture, violence, nudity (but censored - kind of funny here in the western world where some nudity is OK, but the violence showed in this movie would make our censors go nuts), help from people you don't expect. Downright Evil bosses of some strange trafficking organization. Drug abuse, Malplaced showering scenes. Evil for it's own sake.
This is not a movie that I'm gonna see over and over again but I would recommend it to my friends (but not to my parents).
If you like the genre this is slightly more than one hour well spent.
It have a nice twist at the end and does not finish like you expect.
Dak kui oi no (1992)
tragic story about trafficking between China and HK
This is a sad story about a young mother that looses her husband in a fight as a result of someone trying to rape her.
She then have to give up her son for adoption with the help of the arresting police officer.
She then gets "Trafficked" and forced into prostitution and the film shows the evil of trafficking and how bad the girls are treated, but it also show the courage of the common people and how you can find help from someone you didn't expect and how she as a mother tries to find her child.
This movie gives an interesting in-sight into the Asian culture for me as a gaijin and the story about illegal trafficking and forced prostitution from 1992 must have been "really new" at the time, it's not until years later that it have been talked about in northern Europe.
The movie contains some graphic violence and some graphic sex combined with a few moments of classic Hong Kong Action in a way like you never see in a western/Hollywood production.
I liked it a lot, but my DVD release had both Cantonese and English subtitles (at the same time, and quiet often the English subtitles where white text on white backgrounds or just to long to fit on the screen) which made it kind to hard to keep up, as well as the fact that the subtitles where running at very high speed to cover all the dialog. But you get used to that if you see a few "real" Asian movies. And no offense, but at certain times, the subtitles do get hilarious! I do would like to recommend this movie to everyone seeking something outside the plain Hollywood-stuff. This movie has a plot that makes you think, and that is a good thing!
