Rain Dogs (2023)
Painfully raw!
I was hooked immediately. The casting was spot on. The darkness of the story always had a happy tinge of color to keep the balance. Unfortunately, I've lived the life of Costello, and the situations beIng portrayed are 100% raw, painful, and very realistic in comparison to real life situations. The storyline is a fresh breath of air for it's originality. I've experienced every emotion throughout this series; especially anxiety and disappointment. There were so many times when I would be on pins and needles, silently urging Costello and Silby to chose the right path, but only to be disappointed again. It's a very good series to watch.
Radioflash (2019)
Trailer is deceiving.
The trailer for this movie gives such an exciting build-up to make a viewer think it's going to be filled with non-stop, INTERESTING, action. Unfortunately, each clip in the trailer is LITERALLY all of the action you are going to get throughout the whole movie. The trailer is actually better than the movie itself. Everything you don't see in the trailer is just, "blah" attached to 1 minute(or less)worth of action. The movie doesn't elaborate on the 'who', 'what', 'where', 'how', or the 'why'. The movie doesn't feel like it has an actual beginning or ending- it felt like I started watching it 15-20 minutes into it.
Apparitions (2021)
It's like a boring conversation that just won't end!
Have you ever been pulled into a conversation by someone you really don't like, but you speak to them anyway because you don't want to be rude? Adding on to that, they're REALLY boring and just drone on and on and on without ever getting to the point-THAT'S what this movie is like! The movie has a good storyline, but that's where it ends. The actors aren't much above the talent of high school drama students, the directors allow camera shots to linger so long on the actors faces, etc., that it almost makes you feel awkward and uncomfortable watching. The sound is so bad that I wonder if the boom guy had a hangover. The music reminded me of B movies in the 70's. Unfortunately, I can't even list this as a B movie! Don't waste your time.
Land (2021)
WARNING: not for immature viewers.
This movie was drawn out in just such a way that you took the journey WITH her, personally feeling all of the pain and hurt the exact same way she did- you didn't just watch HER going through it. A few of the reviewers complained about how slow and drawn out the movie was- especially in the beginning. If this were an action, comedy, or sci-fi movie, I would've turned it off after 15 minutes, but I read the description and watched the trailer so I knew what I was getting into. Tragedy and loss can happen quickly, but what follows feels unreal, numbing, and is anything but 'quickly'. The movie doesn't include the actual tragedy, just the unfolding of it afterwards. The viewer needs to share the character's experience in the same timeframe as theirs in order to really grasp and feel what they feel, and the movie allows that in a beautiful way. I really enjoyed all the aspects of the movie, but especially the cinematography of the nature. It felt so soothing.
Grand Isle (2019)
Factual Error that wasn't listed.
They missed an error in the movie and I wanted to add it to the 'Factual Error' section, but I don't know how to so I decided to include it here along with my review.
-Towards the end of the movie, right after Nicholas Cage's wife unties him from the staircase, the electricity gets knocked out throughout the ENTIRE house(he even asks her to go light some candles). Yet, as Nicholas Cage chases the guy up into the attic all of the lights are still on up there. Lol.
Regarding the movie review, I kind of have the same viewpoint as Forrest Gump regarding life being like a box of chocolates, but instead of chocolates they're movies, and the life is Nicholas Cage. When it comes to him, you never know what you're going to get. Some are good, some are bad....and some are just downright BIZARRE! This one's about the middle of the road. Except for the very last detail that answers the 'Why' of the movie, the rest is quite predictable. Even if the movie is kind of 'blah', I still enjoy it to a degree because I love Nicholas Cage.
The Matrix Resurrections (2021)
Sentimentality killed it's success.
Any TRUE Matrix lover will be fairly disappointed, and maybe even a goodly amount of sad, after watching this. Even if the movie had all the 'right stuff' to capture and keep the audience's attention, it still wouldn't have been a success. It was very hard for me to witness Keanu Reeves in his late 50's, acting melancholy and minus the spirit of his younger self. The same goes for Trinity. Everything that made Niobe who she truly was has been completely erased from her character now. Casting the new Morpheus lookalike only makes us long for the original one even more. Although it's supposed to be an action movie, the genre follows more along the lines of a romance. The original contained romance also, but the action greatly outweighed it. The movie had a good premise, but it lacked the depth of what they were trying to accomplish.
