Angel (1999)
Get ready to drool...
First off, I must pay my respects to the gorgeous David Boreanaz, who in my opinion could just stand there and I'd be impressed.
But seriously folks, this is a great show which totally blows "Buffy" out of the water with its humour and great wardrobe. Fans of "Buffy" may or may not like this, it's certainly aimed at an older audience and has a darker feel which is what makes it so great. I watch this religiously ever week and so should you.
Vampires (1998)
Worst movie ever!!!
I cannot begin to express my loathing of this movie. It was a total waste of time, money and effort. Why a great actor like James Woods would be in it is beyond me (he must have had to pay the rent) I am not one to complain about the sight of blood and gore but this was just senseless, the entire movie had no purpose or direction. At the end of the movie I was wondering what the Hell had just happened. There were no characters that you could like or relate to in any way. I can name maybe one scene that I actually liked - a slow motion of the head vampires walking across the desert but that was it. My advice - dont waste your time or money renting this.
Blade (1998)
One of the best action packed vampire movies ever!!!
I absolutely loved this movie. Wesley is perfect in the role of Blade and Stephen Dorff makes an excellent baddie. It's fast paced, hard hitting from the very beginning and had me gripped to the end. The fight scenes are brilliant as are the effects. I think the reason I liked it so much was the humour of the characters, it was done in a way that although the film is great it doesn't take itself too seriously. It is a must see if you love vampire movies with a modern look. (Plus perfect for all you girls who want to ogle Stephen Dorff!)
From Dusk Till Dawn (1996)
So tacky it's good...
I have to say that this is actually a good movie although it does lose it's way towards the end. The final 15 minutes I thought were a little crappy. I prefer more realism in my vampires but having said that, I cannot fault Tarantino, his is perfect in the role as the twisted Richard Gecko, and although I don't usually like George Clooney he was surprisingly cool as Seth. There are some funny moments that you have to have a slightly twisted humour to appreciate (which I do!) and as long as you don't take it too seriously, it is an entertaining movie. If you like overacting, lots and lots of blood and Tarantino movies then go see.
Interview with the Vampire: The Vampire Chronicles (1994)
Credit where credit is due
First of all I would like to say that I was so disappointed that this movie did not get more praise. I think that this is one of the best vampire movies ever! Secondly, if you haven't seen this movie already - where have you been for the last 7 years?! The entire cast is brilliant, and Tom Cruise showed for the first time that he was more than just a pretty face. The costumes, make-up and scenery are wonderful. Having read the book (and many other Anne Rice novels), I must say that this is one movie that I feel surpassed the book itself. It brought the characters alive and maintained the atmosphere throughout. Some may object to the violence or "gruesome" bits but to be perfectly honest, what kind of vampire movie would it be without it?! Personally, I think that it is an essential part of the genre and would have been somewhat disappointed without it. An all over great movie that I cannot fault. I even liked the long hair. If you haven't already seen it - do it right now!!!
Blood Ties (1991)
B-movie that doesn't take itself seriously
I was pleasantly surprised when I saw this as it was both funny and put a modern twist on the vampire theme. It's got enough to keep it going although perhaps not for those who like the traditional depictions but fun. Best suited for a late night movie-fest.
Near Dark (1987)
An often forgotten but great movie
I never had the opportunity to see this on the big screen which was a shame but I was impressed nonetheless. This is one movie of a few vampire flicks from the 80s that I like, I am a fan of the old movies that make up for their smaller budgets and lack of effects with tons of atmosphere.
Bill Paxton was my favourite character in this film, his somewhat psychotic personality never ceases to amuse. Although this is more of TV B-movie, it's still entertaining and one of my favourites. All in all, a great nights viewing.
The Lost Boys (1987)
A classic 80s movie...
This was one of the first vampire movies I ever saw and have been hooked ever since. Kiefer Sutherland is wonderful as the leader of the gang of teenage vampires. Jason Patrick totally annoys me but it doesn't spoil the film,Corey Haim is adorable and funny. Some really bloody moments which are always good in my book.
I have watched this film more times than I can count and keep going back for more. It is certainly up there in the Top Ten of my favourite vampire movies and I should know, I've seen just about every one ever made!!!
