Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire (2024)
Titan tag team
Godzilla X Kong is a big improvement over the previous entry king ve Godzilla especially with the human element which was so cardboard last time . The CG is done very well . Although the new rival of kong seems very generic another giant ape called skar king . And then a whole tribe of giant gorillas and a baby one with a napoleon complex . The team up tag team between Godzilla kong and skar king happens of late in the movie . Mothra makes her grand appearance as the moderator telling kong and Godzilla to set aside their alpha differences to battle skar king and his enslaved ice breathing giant lizard . Which is the opposite of Godzillas radioactive breath . It's a fun movie just watch and enjoy the ride . Here's one spoiler alert . No post credit scene .
Billy the Kid Versus Dracula (1966)
Daylight vampire??
John Carridine calls this the worst movie he's ever been in . Billy the kid vs Dracula 1966 shown on a double bill with Jesse James meets Frankenstein's daughter the same year . Is a very bad Dracula movie . He wanders in the daylight , sleeps in a bed . And killed by a metal scalpel . I'm like WTH ?? It's worth a look for bad movie enthusiasts. And poor Carridine took this role to pay some bills but to me it's not his worst movie , I think Monstroid 1980 is his worst . Carridine played Dracula twice in house of Frankenstein and the following universal monster movie house of Dracula , and played a vampire in vampire hookers in 1978.
What Lies Below (2020)
Weird movie
After reading the negative reviews I hesitated watching this , the trailer looked decent. So I gave it a watch . It's very weird and surreal. The thought of the seemingly perfect match turning into a nightmare is so familiar with most movies . This one is crazy weird. Mena Suvari is the only recognizable actor in this strange movie as the mom of a teenage girl who is played by a 20 something. There's a basement filled with tanks with lampreys as the man explains that life finds a way to adapt etc etc . There's some unsettling scenes concerning the teen and her moms new lover that make you cringe . It's basically a monster movie that seems to borrow from HP Lovecraft. And after reading the reviews on here I'm thinking they are entitled to their opinions but I was scratching my head at the ending . Which I wasn't expecting.
The Exorcist: Believer (2023)
Two for the price of one
Despite bad reviews I gave Exorcist believer a chance. Had a free ticket at the local theater, it was good but not great as the 1973 original , although this serves as a direct sequel that takes place today , Ellen Burstyn reprises her role as Cris McNeil who has written a book about her experiences with the exorcism that took
Place in 1973, there os a surprise cameo by Linda Blair who I thought wasn't going to be a part of this sequel . This time two young girls get possessed. The start of the movie is slow moving, Ellen Burnstyn has very little screen time. There are plenty of jump scares and violent scenes .
Fast X (2023)
Action or fantasy?
I enjoy the fast and furious movies. They are never boring , this one fast x is an adrenaline packed movie that you cannot take seriously because the stunts in this couldn't be done in real life so I call it fantasy . I did get really upset about the cliffhanger ending, puzzled about some scenes. Waiting for Jason Stathams character to come back. And another former character comes back who was presumably dead . I'm thinking this is like a cartoon. Am I complaining? No . Jason. Momoa plays a very slick and convincing villain, and I like the constant bickering between Ludacris and Tyrese Gibson they are the comedy relief . Rita Moreno, and Helen Mirran in brief roles .what a cast : Brie Larson , Cardi B,John Cena, Michelle Rodrigues, Charlize Tieron, and Scott Eastwood . And of course the Star Bin Diesel. It's an impressive movie with a good solid cast and a surprise on the post credit scene . Not giving that away . Looking forward to part 2 . It's going to be a long time from now considering the actor and writer strike on going .
Raptor (2001)
Recycled and patch patch parch
When 2 of the biggest b movie stars Eric Roberts and Corbin Bernsen are in a movie together for a paycheck you know you are in for a very bad movie, using scenes we saw before in carnasaur did anyone think no one would notice? And the scenes with the dinosaurs look awfully cheap like muppet show puppets the other actors in it are Roger Corman regulars, a re used soundtrack from humanoids from the deep.by the late James Horner . Probably the best part of this made for video movie. Poor Eric Roberts and Corbin Bernsen they must've really needed the money this would be a good candidate for Mystery Science theater 3000.
Xanadu (1980)
Why all the hate?
I cannot believe this was a flop and panned by most critics. Xanadu is not a masterpiece but it's a very well crafted musical fantasy. Gene Kelly a Hollywood legendary dancer in his last movie and he showed he still had it. Olivia Newton John at her best and also dances with Gene Kelly , plus music by electric light orchestra. The only beef was Micheal Beck as the male lead, that was supposed to be Andy Gibb in the role . I absolutely love this movie . It's different and doesn't deserve the bad reviews and featured in the 50 worst movies of all time . By the way Micheal Beck was in the colt movie the warriors and the Wes craven tv movie Chiller.. Xanadu needs to be a cult classic and must be seen before being judged .
Man's Best Friend (1993)
Move over Cujo
A genetic mutant dog is rescued from a lab where an evil scientist experiments on animals by a newscaster played by Ally Sheedy ( breakfast club, St Elmo's Fire) the large dog turns killer attacking and killing a mailman, a mugger , a paper boy, and eating a cat . The special effects of the dog were done by Kevin Yeager who also did chucky in the child's play movies . This dog will give Cujo nightmares . Of course the dog has the DNA of several other animals spliced in him , jaguar, chameleon, bear . Etc: the evil scientist is played by horror veteran Lance Henrickson, the movie was fine on a modest budget by new line cinema the same studio that gave us Freddy Krueger and the teenage mutant ninja turtles.
The Black Demon (2023)
Another bad shark movie
Even after I read the bad reviews I figured I'd give this a look . And it is pretty bad . I'm being generous giving it two stars . If the movie has one well known star, we'll I mean b list actor Josh Lucas that's a red flag . A CG shark getting revenge on an oil rig instructor and killing people along the way . It's all so predictable and it's been done before . This has all the earmarks of an asylum sci fi channel production . If this was in the theaters I bet people screamed for a refund. Even the movie Meg is a masterpiece compared to this junk .a total waste of time , just re watch jaws 1 and 2 .
Bermuda Island (2023)
This is no fantasy island
I was hesitant about watching this movie, thinking it would be a predictable lost on an island movie , Bermuda island was just that but with a twist ending. The main star in the film Tom Sizemore is only on for the first 20 or do minutes. The plane goes down near the Bermuda Triangle during an unpredictable storm on an island, the several survivors that wash up are picked off one by one by these cannibalistic creatures, it's extremely bloody and gory. It really seems like a few other movies I have seen before, the ending was extremely downbeat .and the acting is so so . It's like part disaster movie and part monster movie.
Bayou (1957)
Cajun beauty meets city slicker
Why the bad reviews this 1957 hard to find movie poor white trash aka: bayou is like a Roger Corman movie but he wasn't involved but two actors were in it that were veterans of Corman moviesJonathan Haze and Ed Nelson, Peter Graves a NYC visiting architect meets Cajun beauty. Iris Menchell . A Cajun bully who also wants her Ulysses. Played by Timothy Carey . There's some fighting , a hurricane . And drama. This is a good old south drive in feature . I enjoyed it .and took me years to track it down. It was worth the wait . Again this is not a Roger Corman movie but really seems like one . .Peter graves went on to Star in several b movies like it conquered the world , beginning of the end , red planet mars , and mission impossible season 2 and beyond. Don't forget the movie airplane 1979.
The Fifth Floor (1978)
Disco madhouse
The 5th floor is one of those drive in type b movies that's sort of like one flew of the cuckoo nest without the comedy . It's very dark and boasts a very good cast Diane Hull is a disco queen who is accidentally poisoned by a bartender and taken to an insane asylum, a sleazy orderly played by Bo Hopkins , Julie Adams as a nurse , a very young Robert Englund years before he played Freddy Krueger, Anthony James as a very unstable patient , Patty D'Arbanvulle, Sharon Farrell, and Earl Boen as patients, John David Carson as the girls fiancé . And last Mel Ferrer as the hospital director who thinks the girl ( Diane Hull) tried to commit suicide. And she is trapped in the asylum trying to claim she was poisoned, no one believes her of course not even the fiancé . I enjoyed Robert Englund in a role so opposite of his horror roles . This movie was panned as a dog of the week on siskel and ebert. But I enjoyed this 7 solid stars .
Captain America (1990)
Not bad
Captain America 1990 is not a bad movie, sure it has a low budget much like the unreleased 1994 fantastic four . But this version I found interesting and enjoyable and accurate to Joe Kirby's comic . Matt Salinger plays the red white and blue super soldier who must fight the red skull ( Scott Paulin ) Also on hand is an impressive cast Ronny Cox , Ned Beatty , Micheal Nouri , Melinda Dillon and Bill Mummy. Stan Lee was an executive producer.the special effects are not that great by todays standards. The movie was directed by Albert Pyan and produced by méneheim Golan. I enjoyed this movie and gone it 7 stars.
The Legacy (1978)
Eerie and unpleasant
The Legacy 1978 is a movie I first saw back when it was released. I found it kind of unpleasant and eerie. Married couple Katherine Ross and Sam Elliot ( married in real life ) are invited to England where they meet a distinguished English gentleman and a house of secrets and a gathering of others for what seems to be a reading of a will for a dying man. Made by universal pictures so you know it will be a horror monster movie and very memorable. Roger Daltry ( the who ) plays one of the heirs and Charles Gray ( rocky horror picture show) . There are some extremely gruesome deaths . A creepy claustrophobic atmosphere.sort of dated my todays standards.
Carnival of Blood (1970)
Break a balloon win a baboon
Carnival of blood 1970 is a very creepy nasty maniac on the loose at a carnival . With Burt Young looking pretty gruesome as a character named Gimpy who has a really bad disfigurement.. none of the characters are very likeable . It's pretty gory for a PG movie , then called GP . There's no nudity. There is a gory scene right at the beginning credits of a head split in two . I find movies that take place at carnivals are pretty creepy. Like the funhouse 1981 which is a bigger budget movie about a killer at a carnival . Carnival of blood was shown as a double feature with the totally awfull curse of the headless horseman . I'm assuming carnival was the first feature . At a drive in I think most people drove home during the headless horseman . Ah memories. I remember they did 3 to 5 features at the drive in . Not all were good . Carnival of blood is a low budget gem . There's no known actors except Burt Young who made his debut a few years before he was to star as Paulie in Rocky 1976 .
Monster (1980)
Mons turd.!
Monster or monstroud 1980 ? Is a really bad movie that even John Carridine claims it's the worst movie he's ever been in . I originally saw this on Elvira's movie macabre , no good print available it's very bad quality. The creature effects are not too bad . Jim Mitchum and Anthony Eisley in wasted roles . It seems like they tried to remake the crater lake monster 1977. Which isn't that much better . Did MST3K ever riff this movie? I bet they did. Elvira sure riffed it on movie macabre. Wow what a stinker it's a public domain movie and it shows . It's on you tube in a very bad quality print. .
The Dark (1979)
Manglers a zombie
The Dark is a very confusing horror movie that can't decide if it's a killer movie or an alien movie. John Bloom plays a monster that shoots lasers out of his eyes and tears people's heads off , Bloom who also played Frankenstein's monster in Dracula vs Frankenstein and part of the incredible 2 headed transplant . The cast includes William Devane , Cathy Lee Crosby, Richard Jaeckle, Keenan Wynn, Casey Casem, and Phillip Micheal Thomas ( Miami vice) the original director was Tobe Hooper who had a different vision of the plot not involving an alien , John Bud Cardos took over probably because Edward D Montero wanted to cash in on the success of Alien , released the same year. The monster shooting laser beams looked like they were added at the last minute. It's still an enjoyable little b movie. Not great .
Hedgehog (2017)
Maddie's debut
Madeline Brewers debut movie is a well made indie about the daughter of a late comic who takes a job caring for a middle aged woman ( Ann Dowd ) both were in handmaids tale , Maddie is an incredible actress wh I think has multi talents . This movie is a character study about 2 women who get to know each other .
Maddie's character struggles with performing comedy and takes a class where she is recognized as the daughter of a famous late comic. I like this movie and I cannot believe this was on you tube. As you can tell I'm a huge fan of Madeline Brewer and I hope that she gets more recognition in Hollywood for her talents . My opinion is she is an A list actress that doesn't get enough credit .
The Horror of Party Beach (1964)
Zombie stomp
One of my favorite so bad it's good movies second the the giant claw . Some radioactive waste gets dumped in the ocean and creates
Mutated sea creatures with sausages sticking out of their mouths . Ew ! This was made in 1964 and it's a hoot. The monsters invade a slumber party, kills some women , and two drunks . And it's pretty gory for a black and white movie, I'm sure that was chocolate syrup used as blood. The first to go is a flirty girl named Tina. The music is wild with songs like zombie stomp. But please don't watch the prism video tape all the gore scenes cut . Good news there's a good print available on you tube to watch in all its gory glory yes it's so bad it's good .
Food of the Gods II (1989)
Rats! Rats! Thousands of them.
Not a sequel to the 1976 Bert I Gordon movie based on a small portion of the HG wells novel .ok thos one is about a growth hormone that a scientist is working on that some rats get a hold of . And ...., well they grow Al right, there's some protesters that actually cause this as they ramshack a scientists lab and let some test rats escape . There's a lot of gross scenes and the giant rats look more convincing than the 1976 movie. This was made in Canada and Roger Corman was an executive producer of this 1989 direct to video I believe creature feature.although I do enjoy the 1976 film because of its cheese. The ending is shocking.
Cocaine Bear (2023)
Coked up bear
I don't know how to rate this . It was enjoyable yes , but the CG bear looked so fake . I think they could've done a more convincing job on that . The movie tries to be a horror comedy . I did laugh at some scenes . I liked Karri Russell's part of the mom looking for her daughter. The soundtrack consists of 1980's music . There's excessive Gore blood and guts that would make gore hounds happy . Ray Liotta in his last movie before he died dies a good job as a drug lord. But the bear is like the CG bear in the toilet paper commercials. Of course they couldn't use a real bear like they did in the 1977 Grizzly. But man o man it wasn't convincing enough . Well Elizabeth Banks did a good job of directing and basing it on a true story . But the title is the plot .
King Kong (1976)
Kong 1976
Back in 1976 this was anticipated to be one of the biggest movies of the 1970s, the most expensive prop is a huge animatronic gorilla only seen for a few seconds , most scenes are a man in a gorilla suit built by the great Rick Baker who also played kong . This was Jessica Lange's debut. The late Charles Grodin , Jeff Bridges , and b movie actor John Ager as the mayor . It's an enjoyable movie but there's many flaws and the effects a quite dated by today's standards. And there are no dinosaurs, but there's a giant rubber snake that looks totally ridiculous and phony . As for being a remake it's pale compared to the 1933 original stop motion classic . Of course 10 years later they made a very ridiculous sequel called King Kong lives! Which introduces a female kong as well as a baby kong . For that movie I give 3 stars .
Knock at the Cabin (2023)
Why the bad reviews
M Night Shyamalan is a great filmmaker and this is a very well made nail biter of a movie. I ignored the bad reviews by the haters. The movie makes you really think about what can really happen . The four horsemen of the apocalypse, well 2 men and 2 women actually break into a cabin occupied by a same sex couple and their adopted daughter and hold them hostage. And then ask them to choose a sacrifice out of the three . Tough decision . The tension mounts as the story evolves showing disasters happening around the world . I think people need to be more kind to M Night Shyamalan who directed many good movies like Signs, Glass, etc etc . His movies to me are very well made and very original which is a rare thing in movies nowadays. Look at all the reboots and sequels made today. And some of the movies that insult our intelligence. Knock at the cabin is surprisingly good .
Missile to the Moon (1958)
Cheese in the moon
Missle to the moon is a remake of the 3D movie: Catwomen of the moon in 1953. But I like this one better. It's corny yes . The giant spider looks like the same one from catwomen of the moon and mesa of list women. The rock creatures are a riot . The music on the soundtrack has been used in other movies . Astor pictures also did the movie she demons another corny monster movie. Missle to the moon is a perfect little movie for a few laughs. And just remember it's 1959 and perfect for a co feature at the drive in . And then there's the moon women who are out of this world . One of the actors: Gary Clarke was in several b movies in the 1950's.
Earth vs the Spider (1958)
Screaming tarantula
Ok I love this movie . One of my favorite 1950's giant monster movies from good old American international pictures . Made for the drive ins . Bert I Gordon directed this creature feature , the spider is real . Mr Gordon used a technique called back projection for the spider scenes. The drained bodies of the victims looked gross for the time. The great Albert Glasser provided the creepy music on the sound track . Fun fact Hank Patterson plays the janitor in this and also the earlier giant spider movie ; Tarantula. Edward Kemmer as the professor who was also in giant from the unknown. Sally Fraser, And Jack kosslyn also star .but the real star is the giant spider er tarantula .
