Zhou (2022)
Total waste of time
Supposed to be THE most horrifying, as I was told by a friend of mine, who claimed "it took the bejesus out of" him..promoted as such by Netflix (which ,to be honest, has lost any credibility long time now)! Nah...nothing even remotely scary or even in the slightest mood for it.."Ringu" , "Ju on" , etc gave us such moments ages ago.
BUT NOT HERE..without "telling" anything about plot twists (do they even exist in this film?) , I could sum up to a single phrase: this could be a perfect cinematic advertisement - paid by,uhh the Government maybe?- about birth control, 20something nerds NOT breaking generations of horrendous superstitions,or crashing "family-only labeled" seances.
Well, the one positive is the movie running to its end..and that' s that 😉😊
Dracula: The Dark Compass (2020)
As if opera hided in the shadows
I read almost all the reviews, from people hoping (wishing) the third episode kept in pace with the previous ones..but no! The producers/writers/creators- Mark Gatiss to be exact- wanted and thankfully AIMED for something completely differrent. I mentioned read, not concured with any of them..personaly, I had a great time, seing this last episode, taking the myth and all its conqueror/undying bloodfed beast, into a whole new level, leaving us with a (bitter for all that matters) smile, at the end of it. Not beacause we didnt see what one was expecting, nor beacause it all seemed a bit in a hurry..exactly the opposite,I expected even more (uh,a episode at least), a way to TELL the story by showing it: and , brother, had it so many aspects to be seen and revealed..as if the whole operatic design of the last 5-10 minutes, were hidden in the shadows ,like the pittyful count hide himself for those 500 years, from the wise light of perfection. Well hidden, bit by bit, allowing us only then to be amused by it. Almost a bit of a light of ancient tragedy, went in through those shredded curtains..and showed once more , how brilliant mr Gatiss is in climatic storytelling , but mostly how deep inside their intimate existence Dracula and Agatha/Zoey were reached by them thespians.
Waterworld (1995)
First of all, watch the "Ulysses cut"...
That's the one I just watched,to start with..Long time has it been since the theatrical edition came out, lots and lots of ink have spelt and fanfares been written about this "disasterous flop" etc etc..making its kegend grow bigger through time.
Well, almost 3 decades later,it surely has aged well- despite some obvious fx misbehaviours (say..poor blue boxing, for example). I concour with all people saying about cheesy acting and so,but..(this is A BIG BUT)
Don't shoot the mariner, before experience the same cut of the movie,I did..almost 3 hours later,I was excited, bedazzled, wonderfuly thrilled by what should have been in the cinemas- but the studio kept out of sight!! Then,we could actualy be speaking of "mad max in water" , "dancing withe waves" or even "one of the great sci-fi flicks ever made in the 90s" (for all that matter)..
I rest my case- just enjoy! 😉
Terrifier 2 (2022)
Gore was never so funny
Having seen the first instalment a week ago,all is fresh to compare..and the truly bloody sequel is way more funnier, in a role-playing-game mood (oops , is that a spoiler alert? Nooo sir, never!) , that doesnt cover it all- more gory fun in the way, messing around with multiple subplots! Hey,even a merry-go-around mock of a kids tv show with cheesy singalongs is prepaired for the eager to follow what the director has for him/her! Well, its not APOCALYPSE NOW , but a 2-hour "guilty pleasure", ment to leave no stones unturned 'till the gutty ending makes you wander , how much fun did all cast have during shooting- I can assure you, lots and lots of it in deep red colors!! Enjoy folks..no brains needed (sic!)
Black Adam (2022)
Loud but empty
Yes, to all who made a 25 year old dream-come-true..yes to Dwayne Johnson, for measuring his caliber to the dark hero and not found lacking any of it..yes-lastly- to the Emmerich(esque) emptyness of CGI,sound mixing , script writers etc etc , that gave us the unique opportunity for a decent DC presentation..
B U T ....
why bother,if you are kind/realistic enough to come out and limit your target group (of moviegoers) from15-17 yo!! Any adult respecting , how BA isdepicted in comic books, might be annoyed by the loudness, yet hollow of all mentioned above..probably I say,not surely! At one' s own risk of viewing this joyful yet lacking at "guts" movie..oh , and destroying peoples houses and a whole city,to prove y-self as a savior isn't antiheroism, its plain nonsense.
777 Charlie (2022)
No paws here...
Typical Indian cinema, nothing more nothing less..music, dull every day's life moments that predict our antihero is a loser , oh and the sensitivity of the supposed tragedy that binds the story , ("strong" emotions) explained during a 3 hour long struggle..ok we had more than enough of that to rate it again and again 8/10 or more..its rubbish nonetheless !!
And for those who are still thinking of giving it a chance..the dog dies in the end and no remorse about the stinky Charma to say even thanks for the whole ride!!What a douche, huh?
P. S. The dog's outstanding performance , is Oscar high , but thats the only way you can excuse y-self losing your time watching this movie..
The Black Shield of Falworth (1954)
Setting the future through past..
I 've decided to let everyone else concern about accents, costumes,Tony Curtis being miscast etc etc..for now,my only pinpoint would be the title of my review- let meexplain myself: watching this presentation, made me remember and connect the (underlying maybe) dots to mostly a saga and a legendary -for what its worth-series of books-made-tv series, Star Wars and its offsprings and undeniably "Song of ice and fire" (yes,GoT). The plot involving two siblings, have to be kept safe and hidden, the "black crowish" guard, where to begin of.. rewatching it today, after almost 25 years since i first saw it as a child ,brings more scenes in favor of that.
Well played mr director, well indeed!! Enjoy folks..
Vikram (2022)
Total crap
Still wondering how they keep on still trying to shoot (almost) every single possible pov , when "action packed, total thrill blah bla etc etc" is , none the less, constantly the same movie time after time after time..seems like scenarios dont matter (good n bad guys so much it describes it all) , a lot of cgi, missed opportunities to differ from the bulk of money spent and gone in the wind (or should i say wirlwind of dusty trucks)...make yourself a favor and "miss it"..you'll be thanking me afterwards!
Stranger Things: Chapter Two: Vecna's Curse (2022)
Cliche all around the clock
Being a fan and have lived all the 80s, I can assure anyone ,something seems a bit off here, call it crucial climate changing (not good,but..) or for worst, at this final (?) season our beloved series has gone bongus - explaining:
What was its greatest -if not THE greatest- advantage against many other series and 80s flicks movies,is exactly what keeps on piling here,at least in the first two episodes making us wonder a huge "why now, sirs" ..cliches in about almost every possible breath, any scene any movement of our lovely young actors, behavioral, or in their way of speaking-heck even the whole "environment" surrounding the city and its residents looks like it..bullying (come, what??) Eleven? Haters plotting? Hopefuly,it gets better midways, cause no one needs breaking of character after 3 almost perfect seasons..
"Caution one-liners dropping" could be the sign for this episode, but its still building suspense (thankfuly) and prepairing for bumps on our seats for next to come (wishing for that)..lets see what the Duffer B's had in mind, lets bloody see!
Le salaire de la peur (1953)
A masterpiece
Not many things that haven't already been said about it,a plain cinematic study for generations to come, acting , montage and emotions, all in a sprouting course of slow burning -almost like sweat under the viewers skin- skilfull fuse, waiting for the climatic last act..unmissable, in any case!!
Ojing-eo geim (2021)
Where to begin with..
A total disappointment, for starter..so much hype only to become famous for something been said older in the days..top knots b$$it if you want my honest opinion, lost almost a day watching the whole thing,no twist if you pay attention to the plot and not the perversion in multiple scenes.
4 latas (2019)
Heartwarming,all been told..
It starts with a heartbeat, waking up your senses..it finaly (and I mean that with all my heart) with a smile and a heartbeat concluding this sahara-desert trip of 3 different characters bonded by either love or even deeper emotions (a real thirst of uncommon life to come, maybe?).
Well, let yourself feel the power of Africa, laugh and get emotional in between France Spain and Tombuctu 😉
Fatman (2020)
Simply great!
Black-humour covered to the core, this story will bring the spirit(s) -multiple explanations for this one..- to any moment spent to discover its colorful treats! Precious for the years to come,as a "guilty" christmas pleasure,to watch over and over again.."Die Hard" ,as said may it not be, but it stands as one of Mel's greatests performances- making it into the -ehm- boots'n all of the Big Man!!
