Poor Things (2023)
Less entertainment than an infomercial
I have no idea how in the world this movie has garnered the positive reviews it has. Is it original? Yes, I'll give it that much. But just being original isn't enough. I saw it had gotten awards and had an 8.0 imdb rating (as of time of writing this), so I thought it must be good and I'd give it a try. I waited, and waited, but the movie never came about to the point of combining all those elements into something great. It was more a combination of a female version of Pinocchio meets Frankenstein, meets puberty, meets college, and goes on a road trip. The only thing missing was the drugs I'd need to be on in order to enjoy it. Even random nudity doesn't add enough to save this movie.
Do not recommend.
Knock at the Cabin (2023)
Waste of 1h 40m
Being an M. Knight Shyamalan production, I had hopes for this to have some redemption come the end of the movie, and possibly a twist that pulls all the events together to make it worth while. But....nope, that never arrives. Well, it made the ending credits a welcome sight as it confirmed my own suffering was over. Scene after scene of ridiculously horrible decision making by way of the dads that prolongs their captivity is about eighty five percent of this movie. It's your stereotypical horror movie where the cast does what no normal person in that situation would ever do. Chance to gain the upper hand from their captors? They Passed. And when it comes to watching this, so should you. Not worth the cost of electricity to watch.
Aside from ending credits, the best part of the movie is the trailer, as that makes it look interesting.
Blown Away (2019)
True skill robbed by political adgenda
The three most skillful artists were robbed by producers pushing a feminist movement contestant that should have never been in the top 5.
The art & skill of blowing glass is something I find very interesting and thus was drawn to this show. However, the disservice done to the art by the show by awarding 1st place to someone that was clearly not deserving tarnishes what could be a great series if artists were able to create and not force personal beliefs onscreen. I was there to see artist make beautiful glass creations, not hear some person claim that the biggest problem facing society is males being unable to give birth. Seriously? As for the final two episodes, It has been a long time since I yelled that much profanity at my phone screen. But every word was earned. So much potential, expectations shattered, disgusted.
By the way, Janusz, everyone knows you were the true winner. Alexander was also amazing.
How I Met Your Mother: Shelter Island (2008)
Lighthouse & Ferry at end of episode
At the end of the episode, a small lighthouse is shown with a ferry behind it. That is Brant Point Lighthouse on Nantucket Island in Massachusetts. The ferry is "The Eagle" and it is leaving the Nantucket terminal. So in fact, "Shelter Island" is Nantucket island. From the exotic setting show, it's portrayed as a tropical destination. It was a good episode but from being called "shelter island" I had expected some more outside, island setting scenes. Other notes: Nantucket island is 40 miles from the Massachusetts coast. It is 14 miles long by 3 miles wide. It's a very popular summer tourist area, with a population of approx 70-80,000 in the summer and 10,000 in the winter.
