Dunkirk (2017)
Awful
I'm coming to this moving having read a book on the Battle of Britain and seen a documentary on Dunkirk. Apparently, that is already too much knowledge. The historical inaccuracies in this movie are astounding and make watching it absolutely pointless. From the point where the beaches are missing 300-350k soldiers, the movie just can't be saved. Then you add in that this movie is incredibly boring, focuses almost entirely on characters you just can't like (apart from the captain, he was awesome) and this narrative element of allotting the soldiers a week, the boat a day and the plane one hour. And at that point, in addition to all I mentioned above, none of it makes any sense. Go and watch a documentary instead, or watch a better movie like "Tumbledown".
The Secret Laughter of Women (1999)
Confusing and unbelievable
The positives first: I applaud this attempt at making a movie about a cross-cultural love story. The Nigerian dress was beautiful throughout and the boy was precious. Conversations seemed mostly realistic and were entertaining. Nia Long is beautiful and Colin Firth particularly hot in this movie.
Unfortunately, that's not enough to save a movie that has too many plot holes to make it watchable, such as: why is Matthew in the south of France, why does he pass out in his car, and why on Earth wouldn't he divorce his witch of a wife? Maybe he has his reasons, but they're not given in the movie.
Beyond that the movie is entirely unbelievable. My main question right now is why Nimi would ever agree to be his mistress? How is she going to explain that to her son a couple of years down the road? Maybe editing did away with all the parts that would have explained and made it seem believable?
All in all, it's a waste of two talented actors.
Philomena (2013)
Beautiful
What a wonderful movie. Both Dench and Coogan deliver outstanding performances for this well-written script. The fact that it is based on a true story makes the heartbreak in the movie even more powerful. I just think that a better poster/cover would do the movie justice.
Hope Springs (2012)
The end ruins a brilliant movie
I was with this movie, right up until the end. The honesty of this couple's marriage was brilliantly portrayed by the actors and only less obvious music choices would have made it any better. And then the last two minutes tear it all down. After all this insight and struggle, all of a sudden there is a happy ending? It is completely unbelievable and spoils everything this movie has created. Disappointing.

Thought provoking
Interesting and thought-provoking film, and I really enjoyed watching it. I think I will come back to it more than once.
Dutch Girls (1985)
Should be a teenage classic
I think this could have been a teenage classic like The Breakfast Club, if it was better know. I am female and well past my teenage years, but this movie is so truthful, sweet and had me laughing out loud many times. I highly recommend this movie, and will definitely watch it again.
