Witch (2024)
Atmospheric gothic tale
Well worth waiting for this release. With some terrific locations, and some great performances, the 16th century fear of witchcraft and life at that time was perfectly captured. A tremendous amount of work and research has gone in to creating this film. Some great vfx by Reece Sanders ( loved the apparitions), excellent sound ( something that can let a film down) and super scoring ( Imran Ahmad), all of which really helped enhance the atmosphere. A strong cast, authentically costumed by Jenny Anderton. Congratulations to Directors Mark Zammitt, Craig Hinde and all involved. Well worth watching.👏
Sajjan Singh Rangroot (2018)
Punjabi moving true war story.
Literally blown away ( pardon the pun) with this incredible film based on an uplifting story of Sikh soldiers fighting alongside the British during the Great War. Instantly invested in the main protagonist, Sajjan, played by Diljit Dosanjh. His subtle but incredibly moving performance was a definite highlight. At times hard to watch British soldiers being so cruel to those willing to help when we needed them ( Alex Preece was quite the article). The cinematography was terrific as was the incredible film score which perfectly enhanced key moments. Congratulations to all cast and crew and to the Director Pankaj Batra. My only comment would be that watching on Youtube meant numerous long ads that broke up the story far too often and sometimes at the wrong moments. Would highly recommend watching for the history lesson alone.
Casting Kill (2023)
Fun light hearted horror.
Unexpected twists in this very enjoyable and well executed film by Raya Films. At the start of the film you really have no idea where it will eventually lead. An actors worst nightmare led by Rob Laird in a chillingly cool, skin crawling manner. Great cast ( really enjoyed Jack Forsyth Noble as Dominic as he manages to get under the skin of this supposed Hollywood Director). A terrific score by Shaun Finnegan which enhances the mood dramatically. It's a well written script by Caroline Spence, interspersing humour whilst maintaining an air of suspense with atmospheric cinematography by James Smith.
Homeless Ashes (2019)
Hard-hitting and thought provoking
I watched Homeless Ashes yesterday and found myself moved several times for all sorts of reasons. Highlighting the daily struggles of those who live on the streets, the bonds they make with others, the need to understand these are real people with real stories to tell and sometimes tragic situations that render them homeless. Congratulations Marc Zammit on a terrific performance and for creating such a thoughtful film. So many heart- rending moments. Its a hard watch at times so be prepared.
